GAMES: GameSpot GameFAQs MOVIES: Metacritic Movietome Comic-Con

I just deleted a 700 word blog post after getting back from GameStop. Originally, I planned to rant about my certainty that Gran Turismo 5 Prologue would sell like hotcakes, while Okami for the Wii sold like cow patties. This, I thought, would be ironic, since Okami is a huge, awesome game, and Prologue seems to me like an incomplete cash grab. I had broken the piece up into several parts, wherein I compared the hype, competition and content of the respective titles.

The final section was going to be called "Sales Pitches," and in it I was going to describe the efforts of GameStop employees to convince me to buy each one. I guessed they would try very hard to sell me a copy of Prologue, and probably wouldn't even mention Okami. Well, things didn't quite go according to plan. The following is an account of today's trip to GameStop.

I walked in the door and asked the two sales clerks what was new.

"Hmmm, not much," one of them said, "couple price drops."

I thought maybe he had misunderstood me, so I asked "No big new games?"

He said "No."

Surprised, I asked "Well, what about Gran Turismo 5 Prologue?"

"Oh, well that comes out tomorrow."

"Is it going to be pretty good? Do you think it'll be worth buying a PS3?"

He looked at me like I'd just eaten a live mouse and said "Are you crazy? It's practically a demo."

I LOL'd.

hmm...interesting. There's no doubt that Prologue is an instant cash grab and I don't think it will motivate people to buy a PS3. Let's face it, it is a demo after all. "He looked at me like I'd just eaten a live mouse" LOL.

The good games get swallowed by the hype wagon, giving one better reviews than the other will sadly make little difference in the sales stampede. It's not that review scores don't make a difference, it's something movie critics complain about constantly.

Hmmm. Well, to be honest, I have a PlayStation 3, and, at least in the world of Target, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, Grand Theft Auto IV, and Mario Kart Wii are the most popular games in the next couple of weeks. While I won't be rushing out to go and buy Prologue, it's still a very nice looking game, and QUITE a large franchise at that.

Sure, Prologue isn't the full game, and worth $40, I don't know, but, it's still a HUGE release for the PlayStation 3. I mean, what was their last major release, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, which was multiplatform?

P.S. GameStop employees are usually stupid. I only buy games from them because usually they have good exclusive content.

I had a friend buy a PS3 for Prologue. He played GT4 regularly for years, and believes he will get plenty of play out of Prologue between now and when the full game comes out. And he probably will, to be honest. Some people just love them some Gran Turismo.

Maybe that guy reads your blog.

Yeah, this isn't meant to be a serious dig at Prologue. Even if Sony is attempting to sell you the same game twice, that's better than selling you a bad game once. Still, when was the last time a GameStop employee told you NOT to buy something. That's like a drug dealer telling you crack is overrated.

Maybe the guy doesn't care about his job while living his own "Clerks"-esque life.

Next time you see him, ask him to watch this video. That should set him straight. It WILL teach him a few things about selling games and pushing mad used games on folks.

Werd Up Homie!! YOU CANT HATE ON MY USED GAMES!!!
