When I first started participating in this "All Time Greatest Hero" contest, I was like everyone else. "Oh NO MY FAVORITE HAS TO WIN OR ILL MAKE A BIG DEAL OUT OF IT!!!" OK, I now see my horrible mistake. Yes, Gamespot, I see through your ruse. This was all for publicity, increased visits to the site, etc. Put some main video game characters together in a competition, hold a bracket comp NCAA basketball march madness style, and let the users have at it.
Look, everyone can have their own opinion. It doesn't matter to me if someone I had never heard of previously blows out Mario in the final. In the end, my love for Link and Nintendo prevails. Gamespot didn't take this tournament seriously, SO WHY SHOULD YOU?
Getting worked up over a silly internet voting thing proves you're taking it way too seriously. I will admit that I was guilty of this for a little while. But now I see that this really has no point whatsoever.
So the next time you find yourself in something like this, ask yourself, "What was the site's real reason for doing this?" and "Should I really care about something that has no lasting impact on my real life?"
And one final thing. These are video games we're talking about here. In my opinion, these characters are not actually heros, they are codes and whatnot on computer chips. Link didn't destroy Ganondorf and save Zelda, you did. Freeman didn't do all those things, you did. Yes that's right, you're the hero. Congratulations.
In the end, please just hold your opinion and respect other people, and please just move on with your life.
