Hi,
I'm writing this on Tuesday night so I can post it Wednesday morning before going to work. It's funny how I can go days without "going" on TV.com, but I do go on every day I work, that's been kind of hard not to do
then again, I know the majority of people that are my friends on the site are in Blackout mode right now too
. So I guess it's my time to list My Top 5 Changes. I am not completely against having a new version of TV.com, I prefer the old one, but I didn't vote because I think if the glitches and if we were listened to the site would be enjoyable again... though having the old site back would be nice. So here are my changes:
1- The blinding colors... There's white like with Word and then there's TV.com which is the new Crest. Just at work on my lunch hour when someone is talking to me I have to blink several time to see something else than the phantom of a flash left my TV.com. That's just ridiculous. The blue is too bright too. There's plenty of sites using white, why none of those are blinding and this one is?
2- The automatic font size is way too small, I have to be so close to the screen to read (and that's been one of the reason I spend more time on movietome for blog reading, but I can't do that for working on submissions). I hope the fact that that if we change fonts (size and genre) in blogs that it doesn't show is only a bug, but if it isn't... well, I'm already not happy about that. Gray is a bad, bad idea to start with, but on a bright white background? It's just not well thought out, is is?
3- Keeping track of blogs is now impossible... Four on the right is not enough, we needed more not less. I always used the see all button, but still when you only have 5 or 6 unread one you should be able to see them all on your page. The amount we had before was just right, I want that back.
4- The buttons for the PM and Queue is so small now... it's really hard to see especially since blue on blue is easy to see... I want the little orange envelop back and the Queue should be like before separate easy to see.
5- On the people's page, we only see the start of the trivia now, I would like it it it was like it used to be start of trivia and start of quotes... I love quotes, I think they show the persons personality better than trivia; to me, the quotes should be more on display; but equality of both like before would be good.
Bugs and the rest:
As you have probably realized I haven't talked about the forums, I don't go on them and I'm sure plenty of Blackout people will have chosen to talk of them so I concentrated on what I know and care about... I did not mention the fact that I can't edit already existing facts in my guides because I am counting on the fact that this is a bug; same goes for no smileys in the comments since when I edit my own comment they appear so I am considering this is a bug too... if not this is something I WANT BACK. There's plenty of other bugs and I really hope they go away fact, one that gets on my nerves is when I open my PMs instead of opening on another window it opens in the same
(it's just annoying, but that's the nature of most bugs... unless they are alive, I love real bugs
, I'm weird that way).
Be good, hope you had plenty of rest because I have a suspicion there's lots and lots of blogs to go through today
.
Like I said I would, I ogle this man for hours... Oh, and watched House, I'm an addict now.

Phin xx
Hi,
My turn to let you know that you'll have to survive a whole day without me... How will you cope? Well, by not being here yourself, taking long walks on the beach, drinking lots and lots of wine (hey, Phyn?) or maybe even crying your eyes out
. I have to be humorous about it because the reasons we are doing this Blackout are all too serious... This is it guys, don't forget, it's important, it might be their site officially, but we are the ones making it what it is and we should have a voice and this is our chance to have that voice, together, united... Let's go into the dark and face our demons
.
And look who's joining us:

Be good and see you on Wednesday when you'll have a chance to read My Top 5 Changes and I'll be looking forward to reading yours
.
Have a good Tuesday,
Phin xx
I'll first start with Blackout Day, but since I don't blog everyday this blog contains a lot more than that. Today I saw a comment saying The Blackout people are insane (well, it said we didn't have sense so maybe I'm wrong, but I thought the opposite of sense is crazy and so insane) and who am I to say I'm sane, only crazy people say they are sane... One thing I know if I am insane, it isn't because of the Blackout, this is not for me about getting the old layout back, there's things I like in the new one... It's about having a voice which as individuals, I don't think we have; for me it is about the color schemes mainly and about the writings, I have migraines; I hate having migraines, I have to spend the time on movietome and even there black and white hurt... Obviously, I will mention this again on Wednesday, there's other things I don't like, but I could learn to live with those, I can't learn to live with pain just for the fun of it.
If you are dissatisfied with the new format for your own reasons, you don't have to agree with me, you don't have to participate either, but if you are dissatisfied... you should. Read Glenn's first posting (and the others after too, they are very enlightening) and use the avvie found at this address: http://i528.photobucket.com/albums/dd330/tjaman/tvdark.jpg. For the protest to be effective, you need to not visit (logging in or not counts) any of the CNET sites that means not only TV.com, but Movietome, MP3.com and gamespot. Like I said this is about having a voice.
The new season watching
I tried a couple of shows and I guess this site being CBS owned has influenced me
, I tried The Mentalist... I wanted to stop in the middle, I should have, it was unoriginal, boring. I watched Gary unmarried while drying my hair as background and that's another one you should skip. Let's get to the good stuff now, I watched only the first episode of True Blood and as soon as I have a moment not dedicated to my "normal" shows, I'll watched the other episodes, it was really good, this is worth seeing guys. My favorite though is Merlin... fantastic!!! I loved every moment of it and I think it shows a lot of promise and well, who is surprised my favorite new show is from the UK? This one is already part of my "normal" shows
. The only one for now, that I think I'll give a go to is Knight Rider just for the nostalgia... I don't expect it to make the cut, but I want to have seen it anyway.
Phyn and Phin reading: Black House - Chapter 10-18
I know you'll probably be unable to answer because of your PC going to PC Heaven or hospital... I'm not sure you didn't say. I feel a little bad having to play catch up, you seem to have more time for reading and I have a suspicion you read faster than me
.
I feel silly about my Bleak House comment, now that it is obvious the authors want you to make a parallel, I don't really see it though, I really think it's only the name and the spooky house unless the story is going to court... Okay, I don't think so.
Seems the mob mentality is really installed in French Landing... Twice in less than ten chapters? I mean both scenes have a reason of being; I think they show how slippage as been influencing the citizens. The frame job was very good, you know the guy is innocent, but at the same time he has done wrong things in his life so I wasn't feeling very bad for him. What I'm finding really good is how the biker gang is the good guys, I really want them to find the house and be patient and not enter it without Jack, I'm scared that they will rush into it and not wait; I expect them to find it though.
This is the last leg... next time I write, I'll have finish the book and I hope we can discuss it before that because we have bad timing for sure, waiting all this time to read it together and finding impossible to discuss it now
.
Torchwood Corner: Lost Souls
It was perfect! Oh... I'll go into fan girl mode in this for sure; after all I did throughout listening to it. I liked the story... have to say I didn't understand the science and after reading a blog on another site from someone who works at CERN, I understand it was false science, ridiculous (and I'm using nice words the person was way nastier) and only someone whose eyes glazed while it was being discussed would have liked it... and I did
. The tone of it was really perfect for Torchwood, very humorous; I laughed so much and that's one of the reasons I love Torchwood the way I do. I guess it was the episode to deal with Tosh and Owen's deaths though I'm pretty sure the first episode of series 3 will probably touch on the subject again; it was really good to hear of how it affected Jack and Gwen. Is Ianto gonna be the damsel in distress like that often? I feel with the shows and this audio episode, he is the one in jeopardy more often than not... maybe because he's a favorite amongst fans and the coffee thing got on my nerves, he makes great coffee, that's a nice visual, but on an audio? Don't think so. Another thing, that left me a little cold was Martha, she was more detailed in DW, in TW she is a guest star so I guess her character doesn't get the same treatment, but still I would have liked a little more delving into how she felt and the old Martha should be in there somewhere. I recommend this, I think it accomplished what it set out to do and it's really fun to get a little TW, but now the long wait really begins.
House - Season 1
Like I said I was really surprised I like this. In the beginning the idea of guessing really made me say 'this isn't that good', but it didn't take that long before it felt right the way the show was constructed. There's things in this season that didn't quite work you expect that of a first season: the Vogler arc? Nah, I didn't think it was very original. The Cameron in love arc? Well, I really didn't understand that one at all.
I think the cases were for the majority well chosen. I guess my five favorites of the season are:
1- Babies and bathwater: I really didn't think by the synopsis that it would be my favorite. I tend to roll my eyes when the story centers around babies. The reason I liked it though is because I know of a similar story about an expectant mom: when I was about 10, my father's employee's daughter was in Kindergarten and her teacher was pregnant; they found the teacher had leukemia and she had to choose between getting treated right away or having her child and maybe surviving or maybe not... She died in the delivery room and even though I never knew her personally, I will never forget her. So I know that House's cases sound out there sometimes, but I don't think they are at all.
2- Three stories: ...Carmen Electra's legs, that's it, not other reason to like that one! Oh okay, the truth? It's House back story and you know I never realized it was before the team said so
. I think it was important to have this episode in the first season, not too early just like they did, you need to know exactly who House is before knowing the back story on that level.
3- Role Model: I'm not so big on politicians, but Joe Morton always blows my mind in any role. I like how he fought to show them they were wrong, someone finally getting through to House maybe we all lie that's a given, but we don't lie all the time. I think another truth in this episode is about running even though you have no chance of winning... It's true about politicians and it is also true about every day life.
4- Detox: I don't really remember the case on this one, I remember in detail House path through it though. I think that's a hard realization to make that you have an addiction. I also think everyone has one, but some are more destructive than others, but still we all have them. Quite like the end of 'yes, I have an addiction, but I prefer it to the alternative'. That is a cold shower.
5- DNR: A little disturbing on many level; if you have a DNR the last think you want is for a doctor not to respect it. I understand House was right and he saved the day, cue the fanfare, but that's not my point. In life you make decisions that you don't have all the facts, that the facts are erroneous... It's about respect. I know it is only television, but it makes you think.
Supernatural au Naturel:
Are you there God? It's me, Dean Winchester

First I liked to apologize to Raluka for stealing her pic... I couldn't find another one, I hope you forgive me.
I normally like ghosts episodes in Supernatural and this one dealt with consequences. Ok, the ghosts were angry because they had been raised and were confused, but their feelings are natural after all without pointing fingers, they were let down. I don't think all of those deaths can be put at the door of the Winchesters (Ron died because he wasn't listening to them after all), but I can buy ghosts not being the most rational people. I think they chose who they made come back very well; Meg and Hendricksen were major failures when they happened and there is guilt existing because of their deaths.
I am a little scared about where the season is going. If this is going to be the season that "proves" God and the Devil exist, I hope it won't get too preachy. I've lost most of my faith by now and am very ambivalent about the existence of higher power, I don't want to discuss this though, but Supernatural makes it hard not to mention it this time, I don't want to get personal; I just find that shows that talk about God sometimes become a story with a flagrant morale and I don't want that in SN. I thought Lilith wasn't gone forever. The idea of the seals is very intriguing, but Dean's reaction to the existence of God? I've heard that one before and I disagree if God exists his job isn't to save people or make us happy. I actually don't think it matters if God exists or not because in the end we won't know before the end... Sorry, went back to what had been on my mind for a while now.
John Barrowman: What about us?
Don't click on the picture, it isn't a link, if you want to see the making of the video of 'What about us' go here (there you can click on the same picture this time
) and if you want to hear the song in its entirety go there. I quite like it and I'm psyched about John's new album, can't wait for November 24th... well, probably a little later since it'll probably leave the UK on the 24th so give it a week to get here, right? I can't believe I'm calculating this!!!

Be good,
Phin xx
