One of the greatest bands to come out of the '80s with a new and refreshing sound. Yo La Tengo have never really made a name for themselves in the mainstream (the closest they ever got was with the amazing "Autumn Sweater") but as an underground their unstoppable. Known for their distortion and indie rock aesthetics, this band is one of the greatest to walk on this earth.

Letter from Iwo Jima is ultimately the greatest film of the year. Dense, psychologically and physically... The movie tells the story of Iwo Jima through the eyes of the japanese, focusing more on the war than the aftermath itself (differing from Flags). More compelling and epic than Flags, Iwo Jima captures the soul of every soldier in an enlightened way. Disturbing and realistic the movie shows the suicidal tendencies of the japanese soldiers and the cultural and societal differences that plague the minds of every soldier on the battlefield. Eastwood has made two mesmerizing films in one year, which makes him a frontrunner for best director. A movie that is stylish in a gritty yet subtle manner, Letters from Iwo Jima is a beautiful film that will go down as a classic in foreign cinema.

It will haunt you for the rest of your life... Apocalypse Now is the greatest war movie of all time. Chilling and radically unstoppable this movie will move you the core of your heart and flutter it's wings until you die of unbearable loneliness and sleep depravation. FFC is definitely a very versatile director because there has never been anything this so bewilderingly volatile in the history of cinema. It's definitely a surge of power that deals with the ideals of war and the toll it can have on your mind and pbysical being. Many themes occur throughout the movie (considering that it is an anti-war film) but two are considerably important: One is that War is a painful experience that should be avoided at all costs, The other is that even though the War is over it doesn't mean that it's finished. Meaning that it will affect and possibly haunt you for the rest of your life. One of the most subime and exciting films of the '70s.
A+

Kurosawa was the greatest japanese director to ever live... Wait, Who am I kidding? He was the greatest director to ever live. His films are breathtaking. He is a living and breathing genius. Ran is quite possibly the greatest film this pioneer made. It is emotionally captivating, triumphantly distorted, and perpetually controlling. It is a film of great wisdom and context. Even though based on King Lear it still finds it's own foundation through the acts of greedy and confused sons towards their father. Definitely a must-see movie to say the least.

Disturbing, Violent, Surreal, Ambitious... A Clockwork Orange may be the greatest movie of all time because it explores societal problems of the future. It is dark, gritty, yet so full of color and depth. It isn't a transparent and translucent hollywood flick. Oh No, You'll find yourself smirkingly appalled by the gorey and intellectually stimulating imagery of Stanley Kubrick. It tears you apart limb from limb until you feel it's vicious and unmerciful wrath. A Clockwork Orange is a delectable treat but only for those who put time and effort into watching this superbly crafted masterpiece.
