Hi everybody. I've got good news and bad news. The good news is that TBS has renewed My Boys, and it will return in 2010. The bad news is that Jim Gaffigan will not return. I'll give it a try, but it won't be as funny without him. See Variety

I took a trip to beautiful Corydon, Indiana, over the weekend. It is in the southern part of the state, near Kentucky. That area has lovely rolling hills, a feature we miss upstate.

Corydon was the first capital of Indiana.

Photobucket
First capitol of Indiana (capital is the city, capitol is the building. I looked it up.)

Constitution Elm
Constitution Elm The first constitution of Indiana was signed under this tree. The tree died in the 1920s, but this monument holds it up.

BTW, the weather couldn't have been better this weekend. God smiled on us. One more thing - Congrats to Finalsequel for a great week in the NFL Pick 'Em contest. I got off to a bad start with 9 points.

I've visited southern Indiana when I went to Wyandott Caves on a camping trip. That was fun, and these pictures look great too. Thanks for sharing your trip.

I didn't know that about Corydon, even though I'm a native of the state, from a long time ago. Capital is also money (I thought I was the first to comment, but for some reason it didn't get posted).

I thought I was the only person left on the planet that understood the difference between "capital" and "capitol". Most people I run into can't even tell the difference between "to", "too" and "two" anymore. It's good to know that literacy isn't completely dead.

Thanks for the mini-tour. I've never been through Indiana, but I soon will be making a road trip from Montreal, Quebec to Surrey, British Columbia. I have never seen what is west of Toronto despite living in Canada for all of my nearly 41 years. The drive will take about 5 to 6 days (side trips notwithstanding). I'm most looking forward to driving through the Rocky Mountains. I'll be sure to post pictures once I'm settled in.

Hi IndianaMom, Nice pictures. Everytime the word Indiana comes up, I keep thinking of that song, "Indiana wants me, but I can't go back there now". My Boys is a show I'm unfamiliar with, it doesn't air on any of our channels at the moment.

i've been to Corydon. My brother lives in Brandenburg, KY just over the river. Very nice town with a quaint little restaurant in the main square.

For me Jim wasn't the draw to My Boys, it's the cute guy with the aw shucks grin. You know the guy I'm talking about.

Wow, looks gorgeous..I find I can't help but like places with beautiful nature.

mtjaws: I saw signs for some caves, but I've never been to any of the caves in Indiana. Glad you liked the pics.

tvking: I had forgotten about Corydon being the first capital, until a friend reminded me. Capital has several meanings.

Hoeech: I knew there was a difference, but I had to look up which was which. Writing online and texting has made a lot of people lazy. I try to spell things correctly, but sometimes my fingers can't keep up with my thoughts. Your upcoming trip sounds awesome. I've heard there is a train that travels across Canada. I think that would be such a great trip. Can't wait for your pics.

April: I remember my roommate in college playing that song. She was from Indiana, but I lived in Wisconsin at the time and wouldn't move to IN for many years. I hate it when that song comes on the radio when I'm driving because of the sirens. I always look around for an emergency vehicle. lol I hope you get a chance to see My Boys sometime. Especially the first 2 seasons.

We went to a restaurant on the square called Magdalena's. Very nice. I know you like Bobby, and he's adorable, but Andy has all the good lines.

TB: I know what you mean. There are so many beautiful places in the world. It would take a lifetime to see them all.

Very nice (historical) pics! Too bad they couldn't save the tree...
Posted Sep 14, 2009 6:00 pm PT
Woolsey: Yeah. I don't know if it was burned or what, but what's left of the tree is completely black now.

I've never been to Indiana, but one of my older bros has done a lot of preaching there, and almost relocated! Good people equals good place. Present company included!

Both capital and capitol come from the Latin word for head. It's also the root word for cap, like on a bottle, or something you wear on your head, and other words too numerous to mention.

Southern Indiana looks like a quaint, beautiful place. I was only ever in Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, and drove from FW to Chicago. I remember marveling how flat it was!

tuckgraph: You should come visit Indiana sometime. You can go to Santa Claus and Gnaw Bone on your way to French Lick, then back through Bean Blossom and Ballstown. What a vacation!
Posted Sep 15, 2009 8:08 pm PT
tvking: Ah! That makes sense.
Posted Sep 15, 2009 8:10 pm PT
millerem: I don't notice the flatness so much around here--maybe because of the rivers. But if you go very far north it's very flat.

I've never watched that show, but I know enough that Jim Gaffigan is a loss.
Posted Sep 16, 2009 5:05 am PT
jekyll: That's for sure. I don't know how they'll fill his shoes.
Posted Sep 16, 2009 6:25 am PT
What a fun sounding trip! I love to go to places that are filled with history. Glad you had an awesome time!
Posted Sep 16, 2009 6:43 am PT
HS: Thanks! We didn't have time to see much. The old capitol is open for tourists, but we didn't get to go inside. It would be a good place for us to go for a long weekend sometime.

Nice piece of history, I must provide some from the other side of the Atlantic.

Thank you for the information about My Boys. My wife and I just finished watching season one and loved it. I'm hoping they release two and three as well. Very informative about Corydon. I took my wife and mother back to where I grew up in upstate New York a few years ago and found out all about the town next to the one I grew up in called Waterloo. It was the home of Susan B. Anthony and the place the suffrage movement started. My point is sometimes we miss great places to visit even close to home. Thanks, Jeffery

I love little towns like Corydon. So quaint and homey. The kind of place you read about
in Mark Twain kind of books.

I love how they preserved the tree and made it part of the monument.

Corydon isn't too far away from the path of the TOTAL ECLIPSE OF 2017. Perhaps another
trip south will be in order?

I did not pick too many winners, a few of mine got close, but as they say, close only counts
in horseshoes and hand grenades!
I can say that I am an award winning football predictor!

Maverick: I would love to hear some history of your area. I've always been facinated with the UK.
Posted Sep 16, 2009 8:59 pm PT
jyarter: Thanks for stopping by! I would love to get the My Boys DVDs. I don't think you can find season 1 online anymore. I know what you mean. I picked up an Indiana travel guide at a rest stop and read about so many interesting places we've never been to, even though we've lived in Indiana for 22 years.

BuskieBoy: My cousin's town in Kentucky is right on the edge of the path. That map is cool. Keep at the Pick 'em. The only reason I won last year is because I was fairly consistent.
