GAMES: GameSpot GameFAQs MOVIES: Metacritic Movietome Comic-Con
Monday, Sep 7, 2009
Hi, everybody. Hope you had a good weekend. In the U.S. many of us had Monday off for the Labor Day holiday. I had meant to do some yard work, but the NCIS marathon called and I just didn't get it done. Now to todays quote. This line is from a current series. Who said:

"When will you guys realize that the only difference between my real life and a porno is my life has better lighting?"

? If you have a guess you can send it to me in a PM or give it in your comment below. Be sure to send a pm through tv.com. I won't see it if you send it in Movietome or Gamestop. Thanks for leaving a comment.

TV.com News: You may have noticed that I have a new avatar. I checked my old blogs and found that I have been at level 51 since early December 2008. I have finally reached level 52. It is my custom to change avatars every time I change levels, so it is time to say good bye to Jordana Spiro and say hello to Zachary Levi, who plays Chuck. I found the one I'm using as my avatar at Zachary-Levi.com. I also like this one of Zachary Levi and Yvonne Strahovski

Chuck

Level 52 is called Guzzlefish (Ode to Snide). Snide was a member of the tv.com staff when I joined. He was the one who kind of kept us informed about things. Like Jaxiecracks used to do. From what I understand, he was the co-founder of a site called Guzzlefish.com in which users could enter their collections (books, CDs, etc.) to keep track of them. That site no longer exists. Snide left tv.com at the end of 2005. According to one of his last posts on his tv.com blog (Dec. 2006), he created the website ComicVine.com, which is a comic book data base and review site. He probably has a bunch of other projects by now as well.

Beatlemania: The big day is almost here! Wednesday, 9-9-09, The Beatles Rock Band will be released. Best Buy had a preview of it a couple of weeks ago, and my son and I got to play it. It was so much fun to be able to sing those great songs. Maybe you've seen the commercials for it. I especially like the one where fans join with The Beatles as they cross Abbey Road. CLICK HERE

Photobucket

On the same day a collection of remastered CDs will be released with the entire Beatles catalogue. This is the culmination of a 4 ½ year project at Abbey Road studios. With today's technology, these new CDs reveal sounds the musicians made that haven't been heard before outside the studio. Pretty amazing. There's a good article about it HERE.

To celebrate, let's have a…

I'm really looking forward to the remastered CDs. Sometimes I would watch parts of Anthology just to hear the songs in 5.1 surround. Some of the original CDs, especially Beatles for Sale, sounded dead and muffled.

Beatles quiz:1-a, 2-d, 3-a, 4-d, 5-d

Hi IndianaMom, LOL I would pick NCIS over work anyday too! Love the commercials with Abby walking down the street and Chris O'Donnell and LL Cool J are following her. It's strange how it's rated a 6.6 here at tv.com it reminds me of when NCIS first began and all the JAG fans were mad at NCIS. I guess the same mentality applies here. Love the Beatles my alltime favorite band. I watched Entertainment Tonight last night and they had Paul and Ringo on as well as George Harrison's wife and Yoko Ono and they spoke about Rock Band and showed alot of parts which Paul said really got to him. Apparently it starts off with the boys at the Cavern.

Now if they could just get the Beatles on iTunes.
Posted Sep 8, 2009 5:03 am PT
A male avatar, a tribute to the quintessential cultural turning point of the last century that arguably blazed the trail for the end of civilization as we know it and a porn quote (kinda). OK who are you and what have you done with IndianaMom? I flunk your quiz but I do know what was on the flip side of Penny Lane. We played it a zillion times. Strawberry Fields Forever.

Am I wrong or did Michael Jackson own all the rights to the Beatles music?

TW was one of those who refused to watch NCIS when JAG ended but now she can't get enough of it. Anyone else think McGee strikes a resemblance to Bud Roberts? I'm really turned off by Tony's macho act. But TW is weak for any hunk on tv.

Those darn marathons always get me too. I meant to do some cleaning on Sunday but I was sidetracked by a Bones marathon. There is just something about cuddling up with a blanket for a marathon of your favourite show, especially in the Winter!

I'm drawing a total blank on your "Who said it" quiz, so kudos to whoever gets it. As for the Beatles quiz, trivia based on them is not my forte, but here goes:

1 - A
2 - D (their version was a remake)
3 - C (total guess)
4 - D
5 - D

Let me know how I did

Congrats on the level up. Oh God, i suck at Beatle trivia. The quote however is an easy one, as its from one of my favorite characters . Later .
Posted Sep 8, 2009 11:49 am PT
I know I've heard the quote before, but I just can't remember, but it does sound like something Barney (HIMYM) would say. Or probably Hank Moody from Californication. Congrats on the new level! Jordana Spiro's on My Boys right? I've only seen a couple of episodes but I find her real pretty and funny. Zach Levi's a comic genius. It's just sad we have to wait several months before getting our serving of Chuck. We need more people like Jaxie on the staff. It seems none of the old bugs are being resolved and new ones keep popping up. Enjoy your Beatles collection.

Hi Mom, Congrats on level 52. Beatles Quiz, 1A, 2D, 3B, 4D, 5D (not sure about 3).
Posted Sep 8, 2009 2:33 pm PT
Congrats on the new level. Level 50 used to be the big goal, and you're well past it. Plenty more to go still too.

I am definitely not a Beatles fan, but they do have some good songs. I always joke that they were one hit wonders! My favorite band Seven Mary Three does a rocking cover of "Eleanor Rigby" that I enjoy. (As do others whom I guess knew the song!)

I read an article on the new Rock Band game, and it talked about how they had to listen to the recorded masters and digitally filter out each instrument; so the game could only silence the instrument that misses the notes during gameplay. The originals were recorded together on 2 or 4 tracks. A lot of time was put into the game, and I know they wanted to get it right, to meet the lofty status of the band. I like how the game is introducing all kinds of music to new ears, and making them enjoy it. I know I'd play them all if I had them. Hope everyone enjoys playing.

jokipper: It would be great to get the CDs, but the price for the whole set is pretty high. Though it isn't bad per CD.
Posted Sep 8, 2009 6:13 pm PT
April: I like that commercial with Abby, too. I'm looking forward to NCIS:LA, but I can see how people feel. However, spin-offs don't usually take anything away from the original.
Posted Sep 8, 2009 6:15 pm PT
jekyll: That's too bad. I guess the rights thing is pretty complicated. I don't really know anything about it.
Posted Sep 8, 2009 6:16 pm PT
Tommy: LOL Actually, I have had a male avatar before (remember Dietrich?). Michael did own the rights to the Beatles music. I don't know where that stands now. I agree that McGee is similar to Bud. DiNozzo has a lot of macho talk, but he can back it up.
Posted Sep 8, 2009 6:20 pm PT
Hi IndianaMom,

I'm not much into games, so I'll have to think about it before buying. I guess I aced the Beatles quiz. For the most part I don't do current TV, totally living in the past, so no clue on the quote.
Posted Sep 8, 2009 7:05 pm PT
TB: That's the best. I need to get a Snugli.
Posted Sep 8, 2009 7:22 pm PT
Hoeech: This is a tough quote, unless you watch the show it's from. You did well on the quiz, but not 100%.
Posted Sep 8, 2009 7:24 pm PT
MarWash: We can't all know everything. How boring would that be?
Posted Sep 8, 2009 7:25 pm PT
Macky: Yes, she's on My Boys. It's a pretty funny show. You should check it out when it comes back. I've been watching some old eps of Chuck to keep me going. I figure I'll still have the avatar in March when it returns. Jaxie was pretty good about keeping us informed. Better than anybody else, at least. We're getting the Rock Band game, but not the CDs. I can't afford that.
Posted Sep 8, 2009 7:29 pm PT
Maverick: Thanks! You did pretty well on the quiz.
Posted Sep 8, 2009 7:37 pm PT
mtjaws: Yes, 50 was a big goal. Now it's slow going, partly because I don't have the same kind of goal. That's interesting about how they did the songs for Rock Band. I never thought about it. It looks like they've done a great job on this. Fans will have high expectations, for sure.
Posted Sep 8, 2009 7:40 pm PT
tvking: Video games are not for everybody. Most of the games my sons play I wouldn't even consider playing. This one is different. I'll have a quote from an older show sometime and you can show off.

CERTIFED: BUSKIEBOY PROOF

Interesting that the release date is 09/09/09 as the number 9 is a rather infamous
one for the boys from Liverpool
, on so many levels.

I think I only got 3 of 5 out of the quiz.

My better half's sisters saw the Beatles when they came to Toronto and played
Maple Leaf Gardens, 45 years ago this past Monday (Sept., 7, 1964)!!
They still have the ticket stubs!  Being a few years older than
my wife, they were part of the Beatlemania of the time.  They went gagga for them!

That commercial was brilliantly done.  Amazing what they can do now.

Congratulations on the "Guzzlefish" level!

(And to think when I first met you, you were
just a minisule level 17 "Crazy Neighbour"!)

When I saw your new avatar, I thought it was Jim from The Office! A testament to my eyesight. 1-A, 2-D, 3-C, 4-D, 5-D. For a while, I thought "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" was Lucy in disguise with diamonds! Why diamonds? I thought it was so deep. Good times.
Posted Sep 8, 2009 10:28 pm PT
As it turns out, seems they will be on iTunes starting today.
Posted Sep 9, 2009 4:18 am PT
BuskieBoy: The intervewers questions in that video are so lame. And I wonder who that girl was who kept getting in front of them. Thanks for the video. Yes, we've been friends on a lot of levels.
Posted Sep 9, 2009 5:54 am PT
tuckgraph: Let's not talk about eyesight. One of the computers I use has the monitor up on a pedestal so I can't get close to it. I have to use the zoom feature to see web pages. *sigh* I've been thinking I should have had less white and more face on the avatar. I might change it. I was the same way with Lucy in the Sky. Must be the British accents.
Posted Sep 9, 2009 5:55 am PT
jekyll: Great news! It's a Beautiful, Bountiful Beatle Day!
Posted Sep 9, 2009 5:58 am PT
John Fred thought that "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" was "Judy in Disguise with Diamonds". When he found out it wasn't, he wrote "Judy in Disguise", a #1 song in 1968. (P.S. I had to edit this post because I wrote something incorrect earlier.)

At least the Beatles game doesn't have violence. AS for Abbey Road, whenever I see that album cover, I think of the "Paul is dead" rumors circulating during the 60s.
Posted Sep 9, 2009 6:17 am PT
I did not know all that about Snide. Thanks for sharing. Hope all is well.
Posted Sep 9, 2009 3:03 pm PT
ncis is the greatest thing, ever. period.
Posted Sep 9, 2009 6:27 pm PT
I completely agree with you about the interviewer. I remember seeing a thing about this interview, and I can't remember the moron's name.

Reporters back then didn't get the Beatles. They thought it was all fun and games; the latest flash in the pan. Little did they (and that reporter) know!

I think the girl was a contest winner selected to meet the Beatles in person and have her photo taken with them if I remember it right.

Back then it was "Toronto the Good". They used to say that on the weekends Toronto would roll up the sidewalks. Toronto used to be much more paranoid about what everyone thought of it. Don't forget back then it was still referred to as "Hogtown".

My parents said you were only allowed to purchase so much booze per month. You couldn't drink in a tavern without ordering food, everything was closed on Sunday. EVERYTHING!

All those folks crossing Abbey Road, and not a one in costume, or barefoot. What's up with that, fans?
Posted Sep 10, 2009 8:21 am PT
Well yesterday kind of came and went without much to do. I only saw a couple of mentions and most were online. I got to play the original Rock Band for the first time earlier this year and it was fun so I hope this one matches up.

The commercial is eerie it looks so real. That's scary what computer animation can do now.

I'm glad their product finally is getting the remastering it has deserved all these years. It's better that it's happening now than 20 years ago in that the technology has come so far they are able to do things they couldn't way back when. The CD always sounded brittle and shrill to me because they were made off of a two track stereo master tape and not mastered like they did when they created the vinyl (EQing, adding presence and compression). Now, for the first time, we'll hear what THEY heard when they played back the tape in the studio.

For the last couple of years, I had been listening to the Purple Chick remasters and they sounded so good compared to the CDs. But I will throw this out, if you were used to the mono vinyl albums, you may be disappointed in the stereo. Geoff Emerick, the balance engineer for most of their albums said they didn't pay much attention to the mix when they did the stereo masters in that stereo was so new, no one had stereo players to play the records back then. So if you can get a hold of the mono box, (non-numbered, non-collectible series), that may be what you'll remember. I understand it's incredible to listen to.

I was in England this March, took the Beatles walking tour. If you ever get there, you've got to take it. It's incredible. We walked across the zebra stripes at Abbey Road (my second time to do so). Make sure you watch out for traffic. They don't stop. They have installed a webcam at the crossing now:

http://www.abbeyroad.co.uk/visit/

so you can watch people almost get run over...lol.

Your Beatles quiz was good but way too easy. And I don't watch NCIS. I love Belisario's shows, but he doesn't care one lick about reality and with my background working with police officers, I just can't watch it.

And concerning iTunes. Michael Jackson only owned the publishing writes to the songs. He had nothing to do with the recordings. EMI controls the tapes (now digital content) of the original recordings but also needs the permissions of those who performed on them, or their estate, to change them or do what's called a "new work". The issue with iTunes has been the long term suits and counter suits between the two Apples, Apple Corp and Apple Computers, over usage of the name and image. That was just settled recently, opening up the possibility for iTunes (an Apple Computers company) to negotiate for the rights to make available as downloads the Beatles catalog. Now the Beatles want it to happen, but their attorneys, and EMI are moving slowly, being sure they don't relinquish any rights to Apple that can't be canceled immediately if need be. They have always been very careful with the content since the days Sir Lew Grade "stole" the Beatles publishing rights away from them.

tvking: I remember that song. I haven't had a chance to play the game yet. Somebody knocked the console over and scratched the disk. I exchanged it for a new one today, so we'll be playing tonight after my son is done with class.

Matt: I'm glad you're able to be around a little more. Hope you're enjoying the sun and sand at your new home.

Dee: Ya think?
Posted Sep 10, 2009 8:12 pm PT
BuskieBoy: Remember how the adults made such a big deal about their hair? It seems so lame now. I wonder if that girl, who would now be in her 60s, I guess, sees that video and cringes. I never knew Toronto was like that. I remember in college kids from Michigan, talked about one city, I think it was Grand Rapids, that closed on Sundays and was "dry." Seems quaint now, but I'd like to see more of that, myself.
Posted Sep 10, 2009 8:19 pm PT
Kalel: Welcome to tv.com and to my blog. From reading your "about me" it seems we must be about the same age. So we'd have some shared memories. But mine don't involve so much sci fi. Yeah, it seems somebody should have been barefoot or wearing their hair like John or something.

sounddude: Thanks for such an informative post! A record store in town had a big promotion with live bands playing Beatles songs and drawings for free stuff--even a box set of the remastered CDs. My son was there for most of it (he skipped a cla$$), and I saw a bit of it when I went to pick him up. It looked like a lot of fun. The band I saw did "A Day in the Life," and the did pretty well, too. There were a lot of people wearing various Beatles T-shirts, and one guy walking around wearing a long coat and a top hat. At first I thought it was some kind of costume, but I think he just dresses that way. LOL The Beatles walking tour sounds great. When I was there in 2000 we took a bus tour, and I think they pointed in the direction of the "zebra stripes" but we didn't go close enough to see the site. It's too bad there are so many legal hassles with the Beatles songs, but I'm glad they are finding a new audience now.

I can understand your problem with NCIS and other cop shows. Just like a doctor would have trouble watching a medical show. Belisario's Quantum Leap is one of my favorite shows ever, but I never got into JAG. It was too much of a "guy show." lol. That's why I didn't watch NCIS much when it first came on, I thought it would be the same way, but I like it a lot. And it keeps getting better and better.
Posted Sep 10, 2009 8:37 pm PT
I'm glad you were able to get an exchange on your console. Let us know how you like the game. Can just one person play?
Posted Sep 10, 2009 9:18 pm PT
tvking: It wasn't the console, but just the game disk. Yeah, I'm glad, too. We had so much fun playing last night. My son played guitar while my husband and I sang, taking turns with melody and harmony. Yes, you can play alone. After my husband and I quit our son kept playing, switching to vocals.
