TV.com News: You may have noticed that I have a new avatar. I checked my old blogs and found that I have been at level 51 since early December 2008. I have finally reached level 52. It is my custom to change avatars every time I change levels, so it is time to say good bye to Jordana Spiro and say hello to Zachary Levi, who plays Chuck. I found the one I'm using as my avatar at Zachary-Levi.com. I also like this one of Zachary Levi and Yvonne Strahovski

Level 52 is called Guzzlefish (Ode to Snide). Snide was a member of the tv.com staff when I joined. He was the one who kind of kept us informed about things. Like Jaxiecracks used to do. From what I understand, he was the co-founder of a site called Guzzlefish.com in which users could enter their collections (books, CDs, etc.) to keep track of them. That site no longer exists. Snide left tv.com at the end of 2005. According to one of his last posts on his tv.com blog (Dec. 2006), he created the website ComicVine.com, which is a comic book data base and review site. He probably has a bunch of other projects by now as well.
Beatlemania: The big day is almost here! Wednesday, 9-9-09, The Beatles Rock Band will be released. Best Buy had a preview of it a couple of weeks ago, and my son and I got to play it. It was so much fun to be able to sing those great songs. Maybe you've seen the commercials for it. I especially like the one where fans join with The Beatles as they cross Abbey Road. CLICK HERE
On the same day a collection of remastered CDs will be released with the entire Beatles catalogue. This is the culmination of a 4 ½ year project at Abbey Road studios. With today's technology, these new CDs reveal sounds the musicians made that haven't been heard before outside the studio. Pretty amazing. There's a good article about it HERE.
To celebrate, let's have a…

Am I wrong or did Michael Jackson own all the rights to the Beatles music?
TW was one of those who refused to watch NCIS when JAG ended but now she can't get enough of it. Anyone else think McGee strikes a resemblance to Bud Roberts? I'm really turned off by Tony's macho act. But TW is weak for any hunk on tv.
1 - A
2 - D (their version was a remake)
3 - C (total guess)
4 - D
5 - D
Let me know how I did
I am definitely not a Beatles fan, but they do have some good songs. I always joke that they were one hit wonders! My favorite band Seven Mary Three does a rocking cover of "Eleanor Rigby" that I enjoy. (As do others whom I guess knew the song!)
I read an article on the new Rock Band game, and it talked about how they had to listen to the recorded masters and digitally filter out each instrument; so the game could only silence the instrument that misses the notes during gameplay. The originals were recorded together on 2 or 4 tracks. A lot of time was put into the game, and I know they wanted to get it right, to meet the lofty status of the band. I like how the game is introducing all kinds of music to new ears, and making them enjoy it. I know I'd play them all if I had them. Hope everyone enjoys playing.
I'm not much into games, so I'll have to think about it before buying. I guess I aced the Beatles quiz. For the most part I don't do current TV, totally living in the past, so no clue on the quote.
CERTIFED: BUSKIEBOY PROOF
Interesting that the release date is 09/09/09 as the number 9 is a rather infamous
one for the boys from Liverpool, on so many levels.
I think I only got 3 of 5 out of the quiz.
My better half's sisters saw the Beatles when they came to Toronto and played
Maple Leaf Gardens, 45 years ago this past Monday (Sept., 7, 1964)!!
They still have the ticket stubs! Being a few years older than
my wife, they were part of the Beatlemania of the time. They went gagga for them!
That commercial was brilliantly done. Amazing what they can do now.
Congratulations on the "Guzzlefish" level!
(And to think when I first met you, you were
just a minisule level 17 "Crazy Neighbour"!)
(Cosmo Kramer)
Reporters back then didn't get the Beatles. They thought it was all fun and games; the latest flash in the pan. Little did they (and that reporter) know!
I think the girl was a contest winner selected to meet the Beatles in person and have her photo taken with them if I remember it right.
Back then it was "Toronto the Good". They used to say that on the weekends Toronto would roll up the sidewalks. Toronto used to be much more paranoid about what everyone thought of it. Don't forget back then it was still referred to as "Hogtown".
My parents said you were only allowed to purchase so much booze per month. You couldn't drink in a tavern without ordering food, everything was closed on Sunday. EVERYTHING!
The commercial is eerie it looks so real. That's scary what computer animation can do now.
I'm glad their product finally is getting the remastering it has deserved all these years. It's better that it's happening now than 20 years ago in that the technology has come so far they are able to do things they couldn't way back when. The CD always sounded brittle and shrill to me because they were made off of a two track stereo master tape and not mastered like they did when they created the vinyl (EQing, adding presence and compression). Now, for the first time, we'll hear what THEY heard when they played back the tape in the studio.
For the last couple of years, I had been listening to the Purple Chick remasters and they sounded so good compared to the CDs. But I will throw this out, if you were used to the mono vinyl albums, you may be disappointed in the stereo. Geoff Emerick, the balance engineer for most of their albums said they didn't pay much attention to the mix when they did the stereo masters in that stereo was so new, no one had stereo players to play the records back then. So if you can get a hold of the mono box, (non-numbered, non-collectible series), that may be what you'll remember. I understand it's incredible to listen to.
I was in England this March, took the Beatles walking tour. If you ever get there, you've got to take it. It's incredible. We walked across the zebra stripes at Abbey Road (my second time to do so). Make sure you watch out for traffic. They don't stop. They have installed a webcam at the crossing now:
http://www.abbeyroad.co.uk/visit/
so you can watch people almost get run over...lol.
Your Beatles quiz was good but way too easy. And I don't watch NCIS. I love Belisario's shows, but he doesn't care one lick about reality and with my background working with police officers, I just can't watch it.
And concerning iTunes. Michael Jackson only owned the publishing writes to the songs. He had nothing to do with the recordings. EMI controls the tapes (now digital content) of the original recordings but also needs the permissions of those who performed on them, or their estate, to change them or do what's called a "new work". The issue with iTunes has been the long term suits and counter suits between the two Apples, Apple Corp and Apple Computers, over usage of the name and image. That was just settled recently, opening up the possibility for iTunes (an Apple Computers company) to negotiate for the rights to make available as downloads the Beatles catalog. Now the Beatles want it to happen, but their attorneys, and EMI are moving slowly, being sure they don't relinquish any rights to Apple that can't be canceled immediately if need be. They have always been very careful with the content since the days Sir Lew Grade "stole" the Beatles publishing rights away from them.
I can understand your problem with NCIS and other cop shows. Just like a doctor would have trouble watching a medical show. Belisario's Quantum Leap is one of my favorite shows ever, but I never got into JAG. It was too much of a "guy show." lol. That's why I didn't watch NCIS much when it first came on, I thought it would be the same way, but I like it a lot. And it keeps getting better and better.
