So I bought Windows 7 with the student discount for $30. I've installed it and it runs beautifully. I'm actually very glad I waited until it released instead of getting Vista. So far it has not given me any problems and it is similar enough to XP so that I didn't have to struggle very much to learn its ins and outs.
So, for all of you that haven't upgraded yet, if you own XP or Vista, and are a student at an institution with an official e-mail given to you, go to www.win741.com. Click on the link for your appropriate country region and input your information and you will be able to download it for $30. If you want a backup DVD like I wanted add another $13 for the disc and shipping. Still, it's a very good deal because you can choose from Home Premium or Professional. I of course got Professional for the XP Compatibility it adds and they are both $30 anyway, so why not get the better version you know?
What it'll do is download it to your hard drive and install through there. It sounds weird but it works just fine. I haven't had any trouble with any of my older games so far, having played a little of Warcraft III, Starcraft, Sins of a Solar Empire, World of Warcraft, Morrowind, Rainbow Six Vegas 2, Bioshock and Quake Live. I've heard that Vista had some compatibility issues with games but W7 seems to work fine so far. It also runs actual XP when it does compatibility it's not like a virtual emulator or anything. Anyway, check it out.
Also, I ordered 4GB of RAM for my PC yesterday, can't wait until that comes in. That's about the most interesting news I have for now. BAI!
