A long-abandoned city of stone stands ruined and mystyrious above the bush country of southern Rhodesia. It seems hauntingly out of place in a lanscape whose only other known native architecture is the simple, timeless mud hut. European travellers who gazed at the impressive ruins of Zimbabwe a century ago thougt they had discovered at last the lengendary mines of king Solomon. But they were looking at what was probably the religious citadel of a powerful, forgotten black empire.
