The PLU is hosting a summer tournament (obviously for pokemon), and I'm running it.
This is where you guys can come to prove your worth at competitive battling!
Come on, and step up, there are some great prizes, but I don't want to reveal them yet!
Every battler gets a consolation prize, so you get something no matter what!

It's a bit too late to join (both of you).
Your friend code is found in your Pal pad, which is obtained the first time you go to the basement of a pokemon center. It is a key item.
Also I would guess that you've never had a real competitive battle if you've never played on Wi-Fi (which you do need your friend code for).

Your friend could well have been a casual player, like you could be. That would make me consider it a "non-competitive battle".
