A year ago I made this blog post talking about the conduit threads/hype on the Wii Boards.
All I can say is - I was right.
The game's single player campaign is terribly short - I beat it in 3 hours and 22 minutes. Multiplayer is decent, but its your standard FPS affair - with some few modes that try to make it seem like its its own thing.
The AI is dumb. How dumb? Replace an alien with a rock - all they do is stand there like idiots.
The level design is boring - the environments are ugly and I cannot believe that people ACTUALLY thought this was Wii's best looking game. Its not. Technically they have some great things in there but if the art looks like crap then it basically defeats the purpose.
The story is crap - the voice acting seems like they grabbed someone from their development team - put a mic infront of their face and told them to read some lines.
The dev team thinks its best to have a bunch of enemies just respawn countless times - while it just gets really really frusturating and annoying.
Also I fail to understand the purpose of a giant boss - if all it does is run around in a ****ing circle...
Controls are the best part of this game - as they are on par with Prime 3 and MOH: Heroes 2 - but add more customization.
Overall I'm not impressed - the game has more cons than positives. HVS talked a lot when developing the game. They said they'd always make sure the game has everything right in it before they ship it out.
TECHNICALLY, they have done this - they just did it poorly. Everything works, works well. Its just poorly executed. Its like a case of the first Red Steel - but everything actually works.. the development team just seems to be mediocre at best.
Basically - if you only own a Wii - this is probably the best standard FPS experience you will find on the Wii in terms of a typical sci-fi shooter - but that isn't saying much.
My advice? If you want a great FPS/FPA game - get Prime 3 - amazing single player game. If you want a crappy single player campaign and a great online offering on the Wii - get The Conduit.
Overally, I wasn't impressed. I'd give it a 6.5/10, mainly because everything it promised to do .. is KIND OF in it .. but its not done well.
I honestly cannot tell you guys how happy I am to see another Sidescroller (though not totally) Metroid game.
I wasn't expecting it at all to be honest. To me, it seems like Nintendo always seems to put less emphasis about one of its greatest franchises, Metroid.
When I saw that announcement, I was freaking out - and not to mention the collaberation with Team Ninja, which is just genius. It is exactly what the Metroid series needs - and honestly I cannot stop watching the trailer. I am really, really happy and that made E3 for me.
The game looks to be more um, cinematicish I guess - and samus pulls off more action type scenes (Jumping onto that bosses back, kicking an enemy in the air, the choke hold on the enemy then shooting it in the head) - its all great and I think it makes me really really excited for the game.
The fact that Samus talks and the game is more story heavy like Fusion (my favourite Metroid game) just makes me VERY happy. I cannot wait for the game and definitely will be buying it day 1. I also have to try and snag a copy of the Metroid Prime Trilogy for the Wii. I'm not sure -yet- but I want to play Prime 1 again and to be honest I missed out on Prime 2 because the whole light/dark world sounds bad to me, but if I get the trilogy I'll check it out.
Microsoft:
They showed no games that I myself am personally interested in. A lot of multiplats - Halo ODST, Halo Reach (not a halo fan) and overall meh. Their best feature was about expanding XBL (Facebook, Twitter, Talking to friends while watching movies/tv shows etc) - and Natal to me looks really, really lame.
Though, for the typical xbox 360 owner, the conference was probably a big hit. For someone who just got his first microsoft console and isn't particularly into Halo - it was a disappointment.
Overall - I really don't know if I should keep my 360 or not. Right now all I want is Assassin's Creed 2 and thats it.
6/10
Sony:
Sony brought a bunch of games this E3. Started off slow but the conference got better:
- Mod Nation
- Uncharted 2
- God of War III
- MGS PSP
- Assassin's Creed 2 demo
I'm more interesting in Sony's exclusives right now along with multiplats than the 360. Also - Sony's motion controls seem really great, better than what Microsoft has shown and basically better than the Wiimote. Great stuff - bad design, looks like something I cant say here ![]()
8.0/10.
Nintendo:
Metroid: Other M - nuff said. That alone made me super duper happy. New direction for Metroid + its 2D/3D with FPS/third person type.
That plus SMG2, Golden Sun DS, Red Steel 2 footage from yesterday, Sin and Punishment 2, Mario and Luigi Bowsers Inside Story, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, New Super Mario Bros Wii, Flip Studio for DSi, Zelda Spirit Tracks.
I'm fully impressed and cannot wait for the next couple of titles.
8.5/10
