I'm playing through Quake 4 for the first time and I've just come to the middle point of the game with the long first-person cutscene.

Never before has a game made me physically ill. That sequence put me in a cold sweat and had me nearly vomit.

A powerful event to be sure, and well-portrayed, but I'm not sure I like that level of immersion when it comes to these kinds of situations. For one, it's not exactly what I thought I was signing up for when I got the game.

Me and my fear of vomiting (it's actually called emetophobia O_o), I'll stay away from that one...Ew.

Most oldish FPSs like Doom or Wolfenstein 3D and mostly anything before Duke Nukem 3D made me feel a bit nauseous and gave me headaches. Modern FPSs don't do that when I'm playing them, but I can't watch someone else play without getting nauseous. That's why I hate first-person cutscenes.

Hope you had a good night sleep despite that episode.
