Macbeth relates to life today as much as it did back in the era of Shakespearian time. Everything around that time period has only traveled through history and is as relevant today as it was then, but in today’s society Violence, murders and sex are still prevalent . Like in the play Macbeth kills his best friend and cousin, in the world it happens every day for various other reasons. “wicked intention must in the end produce wicked action”. When some one murders another person and are caught in the act they go to jail. In Macbeth he is just eventually killed by his own blood just like he has done to his “fair is foul, foul is fair. Basically, this means that appearances can be deceiving. What appears to be good can be bad, and this is seen in such things as the deceptive facade of Lady Macbeth and in the predictions of the witches. Becoming thane and king is something great to Macbeth and his wife who push’s him to continue, but also comes at a great price. If it were done when ’tis done, then ’twere well It were done quickly. If th’assassination Could trammel up theconsequence, and catch With his surcease success: that but this blow Might be the be-all and the end-all, here, But here upon this bank and shoal of time, We’d jump the life to come. But in these cases We still have judgement here, that we but teach Bloody instructions which, being taught, return To plague th’inventor. This even-handed justice Commends th’ingredience of our poisoned chalice To our own lips. He’s here in double trust: First, as I am his kinsman and his subject, Strong both against the deed; then, as his host, Who should against his murderer shut the door, Not bear the knife myself...To prick the sides of my intent, but only Vaulting ambition which o’erleaps itself And falls on th’othe. (I.VII.1-2. Macbeth seems to be contemplating what needs to be done.
In today’s society there are cases like the Menendez brothers who in many ways like Macbeth wanted to be known and their parents money On December 8, 1992, the Menendez brothers were indicted by the Los Angeles County Grand Jury on charges that they murdered their parents. There were two special circumstances that were attached to the brothers’ case which made them eligible for the death penalty: a multiple murder had occurred as the brothers were lying in wait. A third special circumstance, that the brothers had committed the murders for financial gain, had been thrown out by the grand jury. The same circumstances in many ways relates to Macbeth. The Menendez brothers killed their parents for money. Macbeth killed for power and any one who stood in the way of him gaining what was promised. These are related because they both wanted to gain something in an unconstitutional way. They both in the end suffer tragically for their crimes. The Menendez brothers will be spending the rest of their lives behind bars and Macbeth was killed Macduff in a battle. “ Of all men else I have avoided thee. But get thee back!. My soul is too much charged with blood of thine already” ( V.VIII.4-6). Macbeth has done so much killing he is showing some remorse to killing his cousin Malcolm. Macbeth is hinting towards he didn’t want to kill his cousin but at the same time he will not backdown from the fight. “ Accused be that tongue that tells me so, for it hath cowed my better part of man And be...that keep the word of promise to our ear, and break it to our hope. I’ll not fight with thee”(V.VIII 17-22). Even though his death in many ways is viewed as tragic it’s what was deserved. After the killings he didn’t show any remorse so why should he be shown remorse from anyone else.
In Many ways Macbeth has already lost the fight he is admitting to his faults and the things that he has done in hopes of getting off with a clean slate. Many men today do this if they are found cheating on their wives or girlfriends. Confession today is how we as a society feel as thought we can get off with out punishment from those in a role of superiority. Confession is learned at an early age, you learn when you tell the truth your parents will normally give you a pat on the shoulder and praise you for telling the truth about your actions. There are even confessionals in church’s. Words that are passed between the priest and the person repenting for their sins can never be disclosed outside of the confessional. During the Shaksperian time period they could confide soely to the priest. Now in today’s age there are both priest and therapist people are able to confide their secrets in.
