Alright, I realize I came late to this whole thing but I finally saw Watchmen and I need to rant.
Its an odd feeling I have for this movie, it seems like anyone else with my tastes would have hated it, but on the other hand I'll give props to any movie that makes me emotionally invested in the characters be it love or hate. If you can make me care, whether I like the person or not, it seems your doing something right in the way of character development, but half way throught the movie I found myself absolutely loathing all the "good guys" that your supposed to be rooting for in any other cliched superhero story. Night Owl 2 needed to have his teeth kicked in, he annoyed me to no end with his constant whining, and silk spectre 2 was an absolute slut, which was one of the down points in the movie I thought, the sex scenes were so ridiculously drawn out and often I wanna know how many blue pills were handed out on set, seemed like she couldnt go 30 minutes without throwing down atleast once. Dr. Manhattan...oh how I hate him...In one breathe he's going on and on about how he's so misunderstood, no one understands what its like to be him, I felt like handing him a noose and offering to help him string-up, then 5 minutes later he's saying how sick he is of humanity and that he's going to give us all the greatest gift imaginable and leave...BUT then he comes back, sucks to be us huh? The Comedian, the darkest of all the heroes was one I didnt hate, go figure, he killed women and children, attempted to rape Silk Spectre, and shot a pregnant woman. seems to be the one you need hate but yet, he's the only one who doesnt try to make a facade that he's some greater than thou hero, he knows he's screwed up and he knows nothings gonna change. Rorchache...Now here was the one character I both liked, and, I dont wanna say related to, maybe understood is the best way to put it, He was absolutely ruthless, basically a sociopath, but he was my favorite. He saw the worst in humanity and basically hated the whole race, but he protected it anyway, never once did he regret anything he did and not once did he question his instincts, on top of all that, he stayed loyal to his one and only friend who seemed to always turn on him whenever push came to shove.
One of my favorite lines: Rorschach's Journal, October 12th, 1985. Dog carcass in alley this morning, tire track on burst stomach. this city is afraid of me, I've seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politician will look and and shout "Save us!"...and I'll whisper "no".
Also saw that Peter Molyneux announced Fable 3, I have mixed reactions, I rather enjoyed the first two but ever since this Natal nonsense came around I've been leary of those traitors. My thoughts are that they need to let Lionhead's dev team do what they do best and make games, they need to give Petey a coloring book and sit him in the corner to continue stalking virtual adolescent young males.
