Since Jerry Orbach left "Law & Order" last year several months before his death, he is easily its best actor. In my opinion, he and Steven Hill were the only actors on the series who could even hold their salt to Orbach.

Waterston is simply excellent as the rather unconventional prosecutor Jack McCoy and is far better than his predecessor, Michael Moriarty, who played Ben Stone. He is far more ruthless, but in a good way, and I love the way he often bends, but never breaks, the rules to get a conviction. This makes him a far more compelling, interesting and unpredictable compared to Stone who was fairly conventional in terms of his prosecution style. It is easy to see why he was held in contempt several times.

Some of his lines rival Orbach's such as "So you're not a psychologist, you just play one on the radio?" Classic line that made me laugh out loud and just goes to show you his unconventional style as he more or less mocking a witness.

Easily the second greatest actor in the show's history. It is easy to see why he was Oscar nominated for Best Actor. I just hope he stays with it until it ends. Him leaving would be its death knell without a doubt.

Jerry Orbach was simply a brilliant actor, easily one of the best of his generation. He was definitely the best actor in "Law & Order." In fact, Sam Waterston and Steven Hill are the only other actors on the series who even come close to him but he still surpasses them both by a very wide margin. His brilliant one-liners always make me laugh and he was very well partnered with Jesse L. Martin for five years. "Law & Order" should be, and I'm sure it is, proud that an actor of his calibre was its longest-running cast member.

I'm sorry to say that I only started watching "Law & Order" several months before his death but Lennie Briscoe instantly became my favourite character on the series due to his acerbic wit. In Ireland, on Sky One, they're showing Season 14 at the moment and, unfortunately, there are only seven or eight more episodes. I'm really going to miss him next season.

It goes without saying that television has lost one of its greatest actors. I'm just sorry his success came so late in life.

I think personally that Patrick McGoohan is a really cool and brilliant actor, one of the best of his generation. He is great in everything he's in, from "The Prisoner" to "Escape from Alcatraz", from "A Time to Kill" to "The Simpsons". It's a shame that he turned down the chance to play James Bond (it would've been great if the first Bond was an Irish guy!) and Gandalf in the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy (ditto).

I mostly know him from "The Prisoner", which I saw for the first time this week. I watched all 17 episodes over four days. He was truly a visionary when he developed the series. I just wish he'd come forward and explain what the hell the last episode means! I doubt the answers exist anywhere except his mind. My least favourite episode was "Do Not Forsake Me, Oh My Darling" for the very reason that he was only in ONE scene, at least in original footage. I missed his dry British (his character was British, but he's Irish) wit throughout that episode and thought Nigel Stock was a pretty poor substitute.

In terms of coolness and humour, he really is the Irish equivalent of Richard Dean Anderson.
