Yes, Halloween is almost here.

Quote: "Halloween, or Hallowe'en, is a holiday celebrated on the night of October 31. Traditional activities include trick-or-treating, Halloween festivals, bonfires, costume parties, visiting "haunted houses", carving jack-o-lanterns, and viewing horror films".

May I add, "...and playing horror video games".

Up next are my favorite horror games that I highly suggest you to try, that is, if you haven't already. Most of these titles are available at a really cheap price nowadays, and even if most of them are old, they are totally worth playing.

Dead Space (PC / Xbox360 / Ps3)

In the bold and often-bloody Dead Space gamers step into a third-person sci-fi survival horror experience that delivers psychological thrills and gruesome action. Set in the cold blackness of deep space, the atmosphere is soaked with a feeling of tension, dread and sheer terror. In Dead Space, players step into the role of engineer Isaac Clarke – an ordinary man on a seemingly routine mission to fix the communications systems aboard a deep space mining ship. It is not long before Isaac awakes to a living nightmare when he learns that the ship's crew has been ravaged by a vicious alien infestation. He must fight through the dead silence and darkness of deep space to stay alive.

F.E.A.R (PC / Xbox360 / Ps3)

For those who never heard of this game, it's an action / horror FPS heavily based on japanese horror. Even though there's a sequel, the original is scarier and definitely a better horror experience.
The player assumes the role of F.E.A.R.'s "Point Man", who possesses superhuman reflexes. F.E.A.R (a secret special operations group of the U.S. government specialized in dealing with paranormal threats) are called to combat an army of cloned soldiers under control of Paxton Fettel, and at the same time uncovers the secrets of a paranormal menace in the form of a little girl named Alma.
The game's ambience will leave you aware of every situation and spooked mostly due to Alma's mind tricks.

Condemned Series (PC / Xbox360 / Ps3)

The player takes the role of Ethan Thomas, an FBI forensic investigator who becomes trapped in the condemned sections of "Metro City", while hunting a serial killer.
Thomas' investigation is further complicated by a mysterious phenomenon that is transforming the population of these areas into insane, violent psychotics.
As Thomas you will have to investigate crime scenes using forensic tools and techniques, while fighting against the "crazies" in the hopes of catching the serial killer and escaping alive.

Without a doubt, both Condemned: Criminal Origins and Bloodshot are some of the best horror games you can get.

Silent Hill 2 (PC / Xbox / Ps2)

At the beginning of the game the player is introduced to the main character, James Sunderland, who has come to Silent Hill after receiving a letter from his wife, Mary, despite the fact that she had apparently died from an unnamed illness three years prior.
He makes his way through the bizarre Silent Hill, in search of his wife, and meets a woman who is a dead ringer to Mary, with a more provocative wardrobe and attitude.
She calls herself Maria. During the game, she shows inexplicable insight into matters that only James or Mary would know, and acts in a very seductive manner towards James.
This is the Silent Hill where the player encounters Pyramid Head.
In my opinion, the best Silent Hill you can play.

Clive Barker's Undying (PC)

The game begins in 1923 , after World War I veteran Patrick Galloway receives an urgent letter from his friend Jeremiah Covenant. Covenant, well aware of Galloway's reputation for dealing with occult matters, is in failing health and raves about a curse that has destroyed his entire family. Galloway travels to the Covenant estate on the coast of Ireland to visit his friend, who relates an outlandish tale of supernatural terrors.
Jeremiah Covenant is one of five children, along with his siblings Ambrose, Lizbeth, and twins Aaron and Bethany. As children, the Covenants found a strange occult book in their father's library and performed a ritual found within at an ancient set of standing stones located on their family's extensive estate.
This seemingly childish game brought the wrath of evil forces upon the family. After reaching adulthood, the Covenants fell one by one into madness and then death, eventually leaving Jeremiah as the only survivor.
The power of the curse, however, has reanimated his fallen brothers and sisters as monsters of pure evil; they have been haunting Jeremiah and he fears that he will soon follow where they have gone.

The best Horror title you can get. Sure the graphics are outdated (unreal tournament 1 engine) but the game's ambience and sound is still unmatched. Definitely THE game every horror fan needs to play.
