(Intro theme: Fourside- loud, proud, and welcoming)
Ahhh, EarthBound- The game everyone has heard of but nobody has played. This game, released on my Birth Day (June 1st, 1995), is for the SNES and is the sequal to the Japan-only game, EarthBound Zero (aka Mother). There's also a sequal to this game, but it is also Japan-only. It is called Mother 3 (probably translated to English as EarthBound 2- then again, I could be wrong.) All 3 games are Role Playing Games.
To tell the truth, EarthBound resulted in poor sales. Not too many people bought the game, but those who did were lucky to have a great game on their hands.
Then when Smash Bros. was released for the Nintendo 64, EarthBound's main character (who we all know as Ness) appeared as a secret character. However, the stage he represented was Kirby's stage, Dream Land. Many people who unlocked Ness didn't know who he was, and simply refered to him as "The kid in the hat" or "the yo-yo kid". Nobody ever called him "the kid from EarthBound", simply because not too many people played the game.
Then, Melee and Brawl came along. Melee had Ness return (not as a secret character for some reason), and he got 2 stages- Onett and Fourside. He also got many trophies from his game- Paula Polestar, Jeff Andonuts, Prince Poo, Starman, and the UFO seen at the beginning of the game. Plus, an EarthBound item appeared- the strange yet funny creatures called Mr. Saturn.
But in Brawl, we got more than a few stages and Mr. Saturn- we also got Lucas. Many people who looked at the Smash Bros. Dojo!! on October 1st, 2007 were really, really confused. Who was this kid? What happened to Ness? (sure enough, Ness was announced as the first secret character on February 1st, 2008 )
...
So far I've talked a lot about Smash Bros., right? EXACTLY my point.
Most people in the world would have no idea who Ness was, or that EarthBound even existed, if it wasn't for the Smash series- myself included, sadly. Also, if Brawl didn't include Lucas, there'd be pretty much no way of the world (except Japan) knowing Mother 3 was created. So we can pretty much thanks HAL Laboratories for including EarthBound and Mother things in the Smash Bros. games.
Now back to the main point: The Wii's Virtual Console. The main reason Nintendo is keeping EarthBound away from the VC is because of the "copyrighted material" in it. I don't see what the big deal is- you have a few remix'd songs, included "in" things that were happening at the time, and had a few puns. Rare absoluted loaded the game Conker's Bad Fur Day with movie spoofs. I doubt they got sued for any of that!
That's Nintendo's biggest fear of EarthBound- getting sued. there's a bunch of copyrighted material in it, but so what? I think they'd make about twice the ammount of money ifthey released EarthBound to the VC! And remember what I said about Conker? I'm pretty sure nothing happened to Rarewith all those movie spoofs.

(A new theme: Pokey Means Business- Perhaps the best song in the game)
Incase you don't know the story of EarthBound, here's how it goes...
The year is 199X. Ness, an innocent boy, is sleeping in his room. It's late at night. Suddenly, a terrible CRASH! is heard outside. Ness (after getting dressed) goes out to investigate. A meteor has landed by his house! Ness goes back home and goes to sleep. Suddenly, there's a loud knocking at the front door. Pokey Minch (a mistranslation- it was supposed to be Porky but NoA's translater's screwed up) says that his brother, Picky, is lost somewhere. Ness grabs a broken bat from his sister Tracy's room and heads out to help Pokey find Picky.
They find Picky by the meteor. As they begin to leave, Pokey hears a strange buzzing noise. All of a sudden, a small fly appears out of the meteor. His name is Buzz-Buzz and he's a hero from 10 years in the future. He says something terrible has happened and 4 young heroes- 3 boys and one girl- must save the world. Pokey is glad he isn't one of the heroes.
After taking Pokey and Picky home, their dad punishes them. Suddenly, Pokey's mom notices Buzz-Buzz and she "smashes his guts out". Before Buzz-Buzz dies, he tells Ness that Giygas is controlling the future and the 4 young heroes must stop him. "In order to defeat Giygas, you must become one with the earth." So now Ness, along with Paula, Jeff, and Poo, must find the 8 Sanctuary locations, then travel to the past so they can take down Giygas and his minion...Pokey?!

(Final song: Because I Love You- The ending)
There are millions of people in America who have never played EarthBound and really want to. These people have resulted to using Emulators, and absolutely no money is going to Nintendo for the game they made. Don't they realise this?
If Nintendo gives the world EarthBound on the Virtual Console, not only will they make money, they'll make billions and billions of people happy. I'm pretty sure the same can be said for Mother 3. Sadly, Ness has spent more time in Smash Bros. than his actual game. It looks like Nintendo doesn't want to fix that. It seems they just want to dissapoint us over and over again.
And with that, Paula prayed from the bottom of her heart:
"Please... Help us... Bring EarthBound to the Virtual Console. Please!"

Thanks for reading, see you guys
EarthBound, the Virtual Console, and all images and songs belong to Nintendo.
