I got the job I interviewed for. I had a lot of good input from a friend who put in a good word, I think that was what clinched it. Boy I really owe her! I start on the 7th and am nervous. First of all I have nothing to wear! I have not been in a business for many years where I needed to wear more than jeans and a T-shirt. So I guess I will have to go buy some suitable clothes.  I also will have to do more on computers and learn a new system. I hope I am not a total idiot about it. Today I gave 2 weeks notice to my current boss and I was very agitated at the thought of it. But it went pretty well and I think we can part on good terms and I'll keep the door open. I will also need to commute further and figure out what work schedule I want. With traffic being so bad here I hope to go in early and get home early. Will have to let you know if I survive.

Great news!!! Good luck with the new job, although I'm sure you'll do fine. One thing about the modern day workplace is that dress codes were relaxed a bit during the dot-com boom of the late 90s. "Office casual" became the standard dress code at many businesses, including many large companies. I rarely wear a coat and tie at work.

Who knows--if you're working near D.C. now, I might actually run into you one of these days! Traffic is hell around here but fortunately I don't drive. I live very close to a Metro station. (I think I should start renting cars on the weekends though and take drives through the country just for pleasure.) Going to work early might help a little but if you're going anywhere near D.C., the rush hour has been starting earlier and earlier, both in the mornings and in the evenings. Until more people start telecommuting, it'll get worse.

Oh, didn't mean to discourage you. I think it'll be interesting for you to meet new people in a different type of work environment. Let us know how it goes.

Even a good change is scary. I have worked at the same salon almost 21 years so I have no advice on this subject other than best of luck on your new venture!

Hey Go Congratulations, good luck, and don't worry...you'll do fine with the system and you'll soon get into the swing of things

Thanks everyone! ,
123home, I have either really casual or too dressy, so I need the dress casual like you said. That would be great to run into you-LOL!

Kimba, same here, 21 years in the flower shop....Thanks!

Thanks, V! I hope so too.

I hope I get it fast, Newbie! I'm not as young and quick as you are-LOL!
