I am back and I'm sorry for the prolonged absence. I have had a bit of a rough go, but things are ok now. My husband had his grandmother pass away while I was out of the country (first time he has lost a family member) and I was not there to help.

My dear friend's (who hosted our wedding in June) mother took a very bad stroke shortly before I arrived in Canada. She never regained speech or movement and passed on Dec. 24. Cathryn was a vibrant and lovely lady who had visited us in Beijing (I walked the Great Wall with her) and was full of life and love for her children and new grandchildren. It was a real blow to lose her.

I regained contact with a cousin who I had not spoken to in a few years only to learn that his Mom had passed away as well. A triple whammy all in one fell swoop.

The icing on the cake was that despite the fact I was back in Beijing late on the 24th, none of my bags arrived with me and so Jeff and I spent Christmas morning staring at an empty tree.

One bag arrived 48 hours later and the other arrived a week after that.

All of this had made me realize what is important in life and what isn't.

While my friends here are of real importance to me, the site itself has all but lost my interest completely.

The blinding white background is still with us and it appears they simply don't give **** that the majority of us have complained about it.

In the meantime they have clearly added more advertisers and it must be that user numbers are sufficient enough to justify not giving one rat's ass about how the rest of us feel.

At the end of the day, this is their site and they can do what they please. And they do and will whether it pleases us or not.

My enthusiasm for taking things to the next level has been dampened considerably as I have had family issues and career expansions to deal with. However, if sufficient support remains, I do plan to at least give it another go.

Because frankly either this horrible and very unpleasant white background goes, or I do. I simply can't stand it and while it might seem like a small reason to give up on the site, the simple fact is that Danmod swore up and down that this was going to be one of the first design changes and it has not been.

Like other users here I am prone to migraines and while this site has not yet actually triggered one, the background is so stark, so blinding white and so unpleasant that it causes me enough stress that I just choose not to put up with it.

My request for now is a simple one, EVERY time you log onto this site, use their "PFO" link that implies they actually care enough to want to change (it is called "Help Improve TV.com - Send Your Feedback), click on that puppy and demand they do something about the background.

Tell your friends and your friend's friends.

The link really should be called "We placed this here to look like we give a **** - Send Your Feedback (to a place that no one will ever read and/or act on"

I could respect the honesty of that a lot more.

I have missed you and I will try to here more often now.

Hi Hunni

Its good to know that u are back - u have been really missed *big kiss*

Im sorry to hear about Jeff's grandmother (please pass on my condolences) and about Cathryn and your friends mum... I know that u will have done everything u can for them - u are such a wonderful person...

Bleh! TV.com still sucks - the disregard for the members is shocking (but not suprising!) and like u I have found my interest in this site is waning dramatically - its the people that keeps me coming back... and like u Im aware of what is important in life and to be honest this site isnt that high of a priority for me any more either

I hope to see u around more but I know that u have had your hands full... i've msn'd ya too xx

Hi Glenn, I'm very sorry for your losses. It's never easy when someone passes, especially over the festive period. My thoughts and with you and Jeff. More changes took place to the site without others being dealt with and its starting to hack a LOT of people off. I am more than prepared to support you if you want to take things to the next level. Best wishes for 2009 - QB

Glad your back! See my new blog! Let's talk later.

The frustrating thing is they keep doing new things to complain about all the time. It's impossible to keep up with all the idiocy they do.

Your final line is the heart of the connudrum "I have missed you." Relationships, people, those are that the things the matter. So sorry for you losses.

***growling after THREE failed attempts at posting this comment via TV.com*** Wouldn't you know I'd have to come to an appendage site (MovieTome) to successfully enter this comment!

I had a sinking, stinking feeling a worse world-turning-upside-down deal had been dealt your way, so sadly paving the way for your absence. My heart-felt condolences and prayers of comfort to you and Jeff and your family, and GOD, HOW YOU'VE BEEN MISSED! Yep. TVdot is no longer circling the drain-- it's passed that point and the stopper's been permanently plugged into place, I'm afeared. CBS has (happily? connivingly?) proven to us that we are "nobody" to do anything about the shambles our site has been turned into. I definitely will heed your advice about using the PFO, though. It's not like me to say this (ahem), but it will feel good to stick it to 'em on my daily rounds visiting what's left of our community, (the only remaining draw-- God knows what a mess the database/data sub system is now. Just yesterday, I discovered TVrage.com and I am test driving it for it's episode resources, person guide info, how they treat "their people," etc. It's only been a day, but compared to TV.com, it get's the People's Choice nod. Just the nod, mind you, not the award yet-- I'm still cruising it; I'm paranoid, Thanks to the CBSers.)

Please do stay close, okay? Your friendship holds a special place in my little, SparkleFarkled treasure chest ***BIG, warm smile***. I'm trying to make a blog-go of it at blogspot; several of us TV.com "discards" are doing likewise-- and pretty successfully, I might add. You're ever so welcome to join us there. (Even our good friend, Jack Handey, has made a couple of appearances!) The link to me there is http://sparkle-soup.blogspot.com/, but I always post a brief announcement, here, whenever I've made a fresh entry at my new nest. I'm a mere "click" away!

I'm so happy you've returned! Janine~~~~~*

I am so sorry to hear that you have had a rough time. Sounds quite stressful. I hope things steadily grow brighter. As to tv.com- I will support you. However, I can't help but to say that I can't see it doing much more than spin wheels. It seems they are leaning toward a different direction. We are only a part of the bigger picture. Who knows? i could be wrong. I'm in if you want to try something. Good to see you.

Hi.
I'm sorry for your loss. Hope you and your family and friends are okay.
I will keep complaining to the site about the site as best I can.
Posted Jan 8, 2009 6:41 am PT
You've been through some poop. Sorry. It's good you had each other -- that's really the main thing. But yeah, there was a time when this site seemed a lot more fun than it does.

I only hope when they finally do do something about it they don't go with DayGlo yellow.

Hi Glenn, Condolensces for your losses. That is alot to bear. I get migraines too, that's why I'm usually on for a couple of hours instead of almost all day. Even missing days here and there which I never did. Take care and all the best.

I am on MovieTome all the time now for my tv.com needs. But in reality I have forged new communities into non tv sites because I have control over the look of my page. Sure it's porn, but I can see, dammit!

Now that football is over and hence my award posts I will probably be sporadic at best.

I am sorry for all of the tragedy around you right now. I have missed you as well.

I must admit that the white is really getting to me too now. It kind of bother my eyes and though it seems like it should make black print easier to read it seems like it makes it harder.

So sorry to hear you're going through so much all at once, I so hope that your support system provides you with any and all help you may need. I certainly hope you don't leave the site but I would understand of course. It would be such a shame to let the poor layout of the site drive away yet another memeber but I so wouldn't blame you if it did. Hopefully though you'll maybe change you mind?

I have been away from here so much lately as well, the new job keeps me so busy, I barely have time to watch TV much less blog about it

I feel for your losses... In 2006 I lost my Grandmother and Grandfather to illness and my best friend to a drunk driver all in the same month...needless to say I am not a fan of the month of September...

We'll all be here for you when you need a little escape from it all... I will post to the feedback site before I log off...

Good to hear from you Glenn!

Sorry to hear about your losses a few things have changed on the site but not the dramatic changes we were promised. The white doesn't bother my eyes but I know it hurts some people so they should still change it. Jodie xxx

Hi Glenn. It's nice to have you back. Life sometimes remembers us that it does not only consists of work. In those times it's good to have your friends around. I think everybody is having hard times these days. I will follow your request for PFO from now on. Wish you and your family a happy new year.

Glenn, please don't leave the site! Grieve and then come back! "comforting hugs to Glenn"

I'm sorry about Jeff's mother.

Please keep on the sunny side

I really don`t care about the design or another sh!ts about for site anymore. I`m here for my friends. And I will be. I hope you will too

Welcome back! Regarding the site, I hate to say "I told you so" but things proceeded exactly as I had forseen. It's too bad. TV.com lost a large amount of users.
Posted Jan 8, 2009 4:15 pm PT
I'm sorry you and Jeff have had to face so much trouble. I hope the rest of 2009 is tons better.
Posted Jan 8, 2009 4:39 pm PT
A HUGE thank you to all of you for your kind words! It was Jeff's Grandmother who passed away just to be clear. And the mother of a dear friend, along with my Aunt. I've heard these things come in 3's so let's hope that is my dose for the year.

For those who have asked and didn't know, the reason I call it a PFO button is because I believe the real intended purpose behind it is to tell us all "Please **** Off"

I hate to say it, but how else can you explain literally hundreds of requests for the white background to be changed (a VERY easy design implementation by the way) and here we are MONTHS later with the same crap!!

Nice to have you back. Sorry to hear about your family loss. Check out my blog on blogspot, that's where I blog now. All I do is post a link here to it. http://rottiegirl-2.blogspot.com/ Maybe you should consider trying it out. You can customize your look & you don't have to worry about silly "forbidden" words. I understand all about the migraines, no fun at all. I hope to see you there.

I'm sorry to hear about all the loss you've recently suffered. It's never easy to deal with.

The site is a lost cause, and the staff doesn't care. There's really not much else I can say about it.
Posted Jan 8, 2009 6:48 pm PT
That's funny. I was going to make the "comes in threes" reference if nobody else had. Then you make it! I know dealing with it is tough. I know. My sympathies.

I guess you got my email after your last blog. If you only blog, movietome serves the purpose. I like fighting for just causes, but tv.com isn't one of them. Resistance is futile, but adaptation is inevitable. And it's GREAT to see you back!
Posted Jan 8, 2009 8:20 pm PT
Sincere condolences to you and to your family
Posted Jan 9, 2009 1:17 pm PT
I offer my deepest condolences on your losses... And I am glad you are back; thank you for all your tremendous efforts and for inspiring us all to fight back. Doesn't matter that we seem to have lost--what you did made us stick together like family and cemented our connections to each other. Viva la resistance!
