So, after spending several hours playing Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection, I think I'm done playing it a whole lot. Wow. It's an amazing deal. Seriously. I mean, there's about 50 games in here. I know I've already talked about this, but I mean, it's FIFTY games. For probably less money than a dollar per game, depending on were you get the game. On the Wii's virtual console, most of these game are eight dollars. And even that's consider a really good deal for a lot of these games. Now granted, a lot of these games are dated. After playing this game a lot, I can definitly stand by the statement that the Genesis is, inferior, to the SNES. Most of the RPGs included in this game feel like late-era NES RPGs at best. I mean, Dragon Quest IV is being sold for 30$ for the DS, and it's just a slightly-changed NES title. Phantasy Star III in particular feels dated, even for a Genesis title. Then there are games like Decap Attack and Gain Ground, which aren't that great in the first place. But I mean, a lot of these games are WELL WORTH the price of getting in. The Sonic titles are solid, as always, and Ristar definitly lives up to Sonic's legacy. Some more beat-em-up style games, such as Golden Axe and Streets of Rage, are great for mindless fun. However, there are three particular games, that, if this game included only these three games, I would still be happy with my purhcase. These are the two Shinning Force Titles, and Beyond Oasis. The Shinning Force games are very Fire Emblem-like, but there are some changes. For one, the games are a lot more forgiving. Also, unlike most SRPGs, the game has in-between bits were you get to go around an overworld, just like any traditional-RPG. Other than that, it resembles Fire Emblem over FFTA. Then there's Beyond Oasis, which is quite possibly the pinnacle of this title. It's a Zelda clone, but in many ways, it's actually almost as good as any Zelda title out there. The Dungeon, overworld, story; it's all solid. And it's all very similar to Zelda. In addition to all these games, you also have games that aren't great, but they aren't medicore, either. Games like Alien Storm and Kid Charlamen (sp?). Even with some stinkers, it's just an amazing deal, and I just can't stress that enough.
I also picked up Guitar Hero II. Since I started on the GH/RB games back in early 2008, I never played the first games in the series. So I saw this at GameStop for 15$ or so and decided to pick it up. So far, it's good, but it's not the best in the series. For those who don't know, it's Guitar Hero...but it'sone of the older titles, thatcame out before the series was known for being the gamethat hadThrough the Fire and the Flames in it.It really shows that this game came out before GH "got big". The song list isn't all that great, but too many songs are covers. There are even some songs were the song is a cover, but then the original recording for that same song was released in the newer games, and it really shows if you played the original recording before the cover. It also shows that this is one of Harmonix's earlier games. Unlike Rock Band 2 (or most of 1, for that matter), the note charts for the song aren't EXACTLY like the ones for real Guitar, but unlike the newer Guitar Hero games, they didn't ridiculously change the chart. Not that it's a bad thing. However, the game probably has the best interface in the entire series (IMO), and some of the songs are absolutely great (such as Jordan). Overall, it's a worthy Guitar Hero game that most newer fans should pick up, even if it isn't great.
I also got Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny for the PSP. I haven't spent that much time with it (just a couple hours), and I don't feel like writting anything about it, but I've been wowed. The game's absolutely amazing. Very little has changed from Soul Calibur IV, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The game is absolutely putting the PSP to its limits. The extra modes, while at first might appear shallow, are absolutely amazing. While it's probably too early to judge, I might even like this more than SoulCalibur IV (maybe not, but I'll have to see). Seems like a contender for my personal GOTY so far.

Have you played Rock Band? The timing window on that game is actually much less than GH2's, making that game harder to play something like TTFAF on. Though you are right with the newer Guitar Heroes; the timing window on the game is still less than that of GH3's and GHWT's.
GH II was where I started playing Guitar Hero. Personally, I think it had some of the best songs on all the games so far (Freebird, John the Fisherman, Trogdor (LOL), and YYZ for example).
Beyond Oasis... I've heard of that one. Is it really that good?

Guitar Hero 2 is..ok..but I don't like how it's infested with covers, and how the engine on guitar hero 2 makes it so much harder than the newer guitar heros and rock band. If TTFAF was on GH2 I'd fail it miserably. And Jordan just sounds like a whole bunch of mesh thrown in together, and some songs get me really bored, I like the last 2 tiers the most, and the bonus tracks (push push lady lightning ftw!!).
