I may not be the only person thinking this, but is there too many shooting games around? some may find the genre highly involving, but for me,its possibly the fastest most generic genre out there. In recent times Ive tried an Xbox 360 that my friend bought. Every game he bought involved shooting things either in a 3rd or 1st person perspective, needless to say, he fuel that seems to drive the 360 is the shooting genre.

Look at all the hyped up games that get the 10 out of 10's and awards from all sorts of bodies. Halo 3, generic in every way, a simple upgrade in graphics, a basic plot, a Rehash in other words. Call of Duty 4 offeres some epic and groundbreaking missions. but does that really deserve the title of best game ever as by GAME. Gears of war, yes I actually liked it, but the point is the same way the Music Industry commericially creates pop stars into fifteen minute wonders, I fear the same is happening to Video Games.

What else can we do with a story, a map and some guns, theres no immerse world of interaction like GTA and Zelda has. Sure theres addictive mutliplayer, but really, is that the only thing that makes an Xbox sell. Maybe Im just bored and want the Next big online RPG for the Wii and PS3, but the old aged arguement of casual games killing the industry (using being sprouted by marine wannabe shoot em up hardcore fanboys) can now be turned on this other point. We are going to see a lot more convential generic boring shooting games, because producers are going to see the sheep coming. and while the ones who do really do something different will be outsold by numbers of mindless zombies playing Xbox live.

Ever wondered why Smash Bros was so successful and why Nintendo is selling more and the reason as to why casual gamers are springing up left right and centre, because the industry needs to develop its shooting genre from simple storylines, jabbing the trigger and strafing left and right.

Maybe this blog won't be heard, or maybe it will, but hopefully it'll spark the mind that reliases that Master Cheif and Marcus Fenix can only do so much before the industry gets stale. In a nutshell, There are simply too many shoot em ups and no real focus on other and new genres

lol i totally agree with you! Personally i don't like FPS or shooter games in gerneral, but whenever i got to my friend's house [who has a PS3 and 360] the only games we play are shooter games [and guitar hero sometimes]. But that's all he has, just shooter games and guitar hero >.>

That is why i have got so addictive to them everywhere i go i am normaly playing FPS,but i have not got bored of them yet. Most of them has a good story line and are very fun to play.I would have to admit they have to start making different games like fighting,Adventure, action,or these games will start to get boring.

i deff agree with all that you say. shooting games will eventually get old 2 some gamers, and people will want to play different kinds..so they really need to start adding more diff genres to their collection. i have acouple of shooting games myself, and ive find them not as exciting anymore...so yeah i agree.
