The Isles are calling me.

From the crumbling ancient stones of Hadrian's Wall to the clean lines and modernity of the London Eye, the next 11 days will see me away from the shackles that tie me to this computer and onto the rainy winter in England.

Kay will keep her eyes peeled for stories on British television about possible international incidents arising from a crazy American attempting to dig up Chaucer's crypt beneath Westminster Abbey, or perhaps putting up too much of a fight when "time!" is called at the local pub.

Paula has agreed to keep an eye on any messages from TPTB - those who may deign to suffer my intrusions into the sanctity of their Facebook accounts.

Layle has almost forgiven me for being conspicuously absent from any and all assistance with the Top Chef guide - almost. I laugh when I consider that I actually posted in the "Editors' Special Circumstances" Thread to make certain that all of those myriad submissions to my many guides will be handled by the mods in a timely fashion.

No CM on Wednesday? How shall I then live? Thank goodness for DVR. Yes, the recap will be late next week, my fellow rodents, but I believe we will survive.

By the way, take a note, TV.com - Facebook manages to survive with lots of white space. Their design team has learned how to fill up the vast glacial emptiness, so should you.

Pip-pip and Cheerio!

Dearest Finn, we shall miss you muchly, but knowing what a great trip you'll be having, and seeing the photos when you return, will be solace enough for those of us you have left behind.

Regarding Facebook? Love it... love it... LOVE IT

Have a wonderful time on your trip! I've always wanted to visit England.

Let me tell you, you're right about Facebook. It's all about strategic design! Now, FB had problems with their redesign (it does take time for people to adjust) but it was not as bad as this. I don't usually carry on grudges against redesigns in the online fora, but this one has me out of place.

Thanks, everyone! The trip was wonderful and we can't wait to go back. Naturally, now we are all sick with the flu, and this being the last week before Christmas break for my students, my plate is fairly full. But Finn jr is home and all is right with the world.
