Hey, hey! I have my very own Sony Playstation 3 now! (July 10, 2009)
*performs a happy dance*
Well I got a ceramic white 40 GB PS3... I know it is quite disappointing and maybe I did a really foolish decision, but here's the story...
I was torn between two options, either:
(1) an 80 gig PS3 (Dual Shock 3) - piano black with free "The Orange" box game, another game of my choice and another Dual Shock 3... The price is 26,900 Philippine Peso (around US$560), or
(2) Playstation 3 40 GB - Ceramic White (Sixaxis), one game of my choice and one Dual Shock 3... the price is 24,700 Philippine Peso (around US$514)
Basically, the factors I considered are the following:
- Price... The cheaper, the better
- The color... I really like the ceramic white one... veryp leasing to the eyes
- Currently, I'm only really interested with Metal Gear Solid 4 and Resident Evil 5
If I chose the first option, it is not ceramic white... It is the "more" generic color, I do not like Half-Life games so I will not have any use for the "The Orange Box", and I'll spend another 4,500-5,000 Philippine Peso (around US$72-103) to get RE5 (I can get MGS4 for free), so, if I took this option, I should have spent 31,000 Philippine Peso (around US$665).
On the other hand, the one I took... I spent a total of 27,300 Philippine Peso (around US$569) = the second option, plus I bought RE5 in another shop who sells the game for only 2,600 Philippine Peso (around US$54).
Well, I saved around US$96:
additional 40 GB, The Orange Box, 2 Dual Shock 3
-VERSUS-
ceramic white, 1 Sixaxis, 1 Dual shock 3
Obviously, the color became the main consideration. ![]()
So, what do you think?
In any way, wish me well in my next-gen videogame experience!
I'll try to get my own internet at home so I can join you in the PS3 online community... ( I hope the "Fantasy Gamer / Fantasy_Gamer" code names are not yet taken >_< )
YAYZ! *cookies for everyone*
QUESTIONS
Btw, I have some questions...
1. How can I avoid the BDL problem I've read in some forums? How about the Yellow Screen of Death?
2. In the documentations included in my PS3 box, it says "Singapore" as Region, but my PS3 is NTSC-J... So, does it mean my PS3 is made in Japan, but should be registered in Singapore? There is no SCE Philippines.
3. Since I have an Asian version PS3, can I register in us.playstation.com, or should I only register in asia.playstation.com? Can I register in both?
4. Is it true that if for some reasons the firmware upgrade was interrupted, my PS3 would be gone for good?
5. Is the firmware update similar for all PS3 versions?
6. Is there regional block for PS3? Games? BDs? DVDs? VCDs?
7. Since I only have a 40 GB PS3, can I just use an external HDD in installing games or I really have to put in a larger HDD?

@ Lionheart: lol Take your time, until you think it's high time for you to buy one.
I can't answer all your questions, but I can help with a few.
3: Now, I don't know this for sure, but I would guess because of the region of the world you are in, your system may automatically register you in asia.playstation.com. I'm in the US, and although it's been a while since I registered my system, I do not recall seeing any options allowing me to select which region I wanted to register with. It is probably coded into the system when it leaves the manufacturer.
6. There is no region locking for the PS3 or its games, which I believe is true for Blu-Ray videos as well. Hopefully someone else can answer you on the DVDs and VCDs. You'll just get access to some games before the rest of us, like FF XIII...
7. I only have a 40 GB model myself and haven't run into a lot of troubles with space yet and I've downloaded a ton of demos and such. The key thing is to keep on top of it and delete the demos you don't like or think you will never play again. Now, if you plan on keeping a lot of music, video or photos on your PS3, then you may run short on space. You can use an external hard drive for music, video and photos, but not for installing games or demos.
Congrats again and enjoy your new shiny toy! If you want to add me as a friend once you get setup online, my PSN Name is also: Ebi_Furya
To answer some questions, PS3 YLD isnt very common at all, if it ever freezes, turn it off and the back and back on 10 secs later, you may need to plug your controller in for a bit before it'll be able to wirelessly reconnect. If your PS3 is ruined by firmware update, SONY can try and restore it or replace it.
2. It could probably be registered under either region.
3. That I am not sure of..
4. No, not really. For both the PSP and PS3(and other systems) the firmware installation are sensitive. Due be careful.
5. The firmware in every regions is pretty much the same. But you'll be updating for your closes source probably.
6. PS3 games are region free, but DVDs are still region lock(I think you're in Region 3). However for Blu-Ray movies you're in Region A(North & South America, Japan, Southeast Asia, and East Asia). So if you like Japanese and American films then you're in the right place!
7. Putting in a larger HDD isn't hard. At the sametime 40GB should be enough for anyone even if you're a DD whore. What's hard is managing a 20GB Xbox 360. xD
@ videogamegirl: Yay! It's been a while! Thanks for droppin' by my blog.
