2 PS3 tech demos new atleast to me. I saw 2 PS3 tech demos at my work ( I work in a local game-magazine) and thought sharing them wouldn't hurt. They were same as demos shown in TGS I think but I hadn't seen them:
1. A real-time demo of MotorStorm which was very technical yet awesome. The demo had actually no racing. Instead it had as single buggie looking car wonder around, araising dust and showing differenct effects. The particle effects and car smoke were great but not revolutionary. The dynamics and car physics were great and realistic. Perhaps the most important and crazy looking thing about this demo was the car decal/wheel trace effects which were INCREDIBLE. At first I thoght the ground was just made of shaders and was 2D. I thought the effects and wheel trails were 2D and texture but WAIT... WTF. They were fully 3D!!! After the car wondered around for a minute, it returned to starting position and move on its previous tracks/wheel traces. Each time the car wheel arrived on a trail/decal, the car would react perfectly. The holes and effects on the ground were fully 3D and not pre-created (like F.E.A.R or Red Faction).
2. A real-time demo which seemed to be Heavenly Sword. First there was a desert and then they added a soldier. Then like the (in)famous floating ducks demo, they added hundreds of soldiers. The first cool thing is that while they were added in a copy-paste manner, they're animations and movements while standing was not mass-copy (Dynasty Warriors). Then they add and force explosion/impact effect (Only force, without gas or explosion smoke/fire). This action shows games great physics and how unique they all fly in the sky. The surprize here was the colse reactions. One soldier falls near another guy standing in front of camera. The fallen one grabs the other guy's leg and makes him slip in a cool and realistic manner.
3. I'm not sure about game of the 3rd demo. It had a still normal car. It was great looking but nothing we haven't seen. Then someone starts shooting it with a machine gun. The bullet effects on the car are truly amazing and each and every part of car is fully created and completely reacting to gun shots(Even the SMALLEST ones). The demo continues with the shooter destroying the car and wrecking it. It would be crazy to have this in a video game.
I hope they bring more of these Pre-E3 demos so we can know what to expect there. Since I had not seen these earlier I thought sharing my experience with you friends wouldn't be bad.
