i came across Jamie Smart's work whilst browsing the Independants section at one of my favourite comic stores - Kings Comics.
i picked up the first volume of Bear. i can't remember why exactly, but i'm glad i did.
Jamie Smart is a British comic artist and writer. most well known for his series Bear and Ubu Bubu.
Bear follows the story of a small plush bear, named... Bear, whose head expands when you poke him on the nose and who also once served in the British Army, and his psychotic housemate, a cat named Looshkin who's fun in day to day life is derived from torturing Bear in any way possible. from sharp knives to giant squid.
Ubu Bubu's title is derived from a culmination of it's main characters. Bubu or Lord Bubu is a daemon, called forth to bring upon the rapture and to harvest the souls of The List, faithfully carried by his keeper and assistant Stig, a tiny little boney fellow. but Lord Bubu cannot walk the earth without the help of a host... the cute and innocent cat Ubu.
he has many other comics including Whubble, Angry Little Robot, Space Raoul and Corporate Skull.
his comedy is both sick and silly and i implore you to go and check it out.
