Just 30% more to go before I can add information!
It seems that a lot of people are watching a lot more TV nowadays than I am.
Apparently with shows like Lost and Alias and 24 and Medium and the usual CSI/L&O cop dramas and these new ones like Invasion, it is a great time for television. I noticed. I can't go anywhere without people around me talking about the nuances of these shows.
Meanwhile, I'm not much into those kinds of shows at all. I'm more into the frivolous cartoon set. So I'll be catching Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo (recently introduced to ridiculously mixed reviews), the Duel Masters episodes that have shown up at a watchable time on Saturday again, and Harvey Birdman whenever possible.
My taste may be suspect (and has been questioned by at least one friend lately), but it's mine and I like it.
I like honesty and I like optimism. I like unrealism and I like wit.
It's the stuff in the middle I don't enjoy.
You know, the stuff that would really suck if it were real, but it's not real, but there's no guarantee that it can't be real.
I especially hate it when people try to counter my dislike of these shows using the second part of that sentence. The second part doesn't matter to me. It's the first and third parts combined.
I don't like to watch people suffer. I don't like to watch people die in bloody ways. I don't like to watch people we're supposed to like act irrationally. This is true even when the people who do this don't actually exist. I DON'T LIKE WATCHING IT. (I also don't stare at train wrecks.)
Denouement doesn't always help, either. I don't feel better when a murderer is arrested. I feel better when a murder is prevented.
At low levels, I can accept it. Especially if I'm more than a passive observer. (I mean, without that stuff, my interest in video games looks pretty stupid.) This is especially true if the depiction is stylized. Just don't push it.
Yeah, I probably come across as a wimp right now. But some other people have said it well. There's enough bad stuff going on in real life. I don't need pain and misery in my entertainment as well.
