When I got my Play station 3, 2 years ago. The whole talk about. Next Gen options was intriguing. I never played games online before and I was looking forward to experiencing this. So far its been pretty cool. I have met some very cool people online that I share similar interest with. There are also some serious douchebags as well but like with everything else in life. You have to take the bad with the good. So gaming online is cool but the other next gen feature that I was being expose to was DLC (Down Loadable Content).
There are two main uses for this. First there is "add-on" content. This is where you get stuff like extra levels, more costumes for you characters, new characters to use, new weapons, etc. These are then added on to a game that you own (whether be a disc based game or a DLC game) to either extend the replayabilty of the game or to just make it more fun. The other use of DLC is to download games themselves. There are old school games like from arcades. They have Playstation one classics like Crash Bandicoot, Syphon Filter, Spyro, Metal Gear Solid, etc. Then there are original games and popular games that are remade in HD (high definition) format.
This is all good and all but sometimes these DLCs are free. Othere times they are not which requires you to pay a set amount of money either with a credit card or a pre-paid PSN (Play station Network) card. The add-ons are cool depending on what it is and for which game, and the set price for it . But the games are another thing entirely. The PS one classics are just that, If you remember playing a certain PS one game and loved it, But do not own it anymore then it is cool hat you have the option of owning it again. Then there are the original games, The Pixel Junk series, The Last Guy, and others. This is where it gets fuzzy. Some of these games are cool but others are not. Very few of these DLC games have a free demo that you can try out. Also, there are very few game sites and game magazines that review DLC games. So if you buy one. You have to remember that there is no refund available. You buy it, you are stuck with it. Which is a shame because I have bought a couple of DLC game that either I didn't really enjoy or just plain sucked. So buyer beware. Try looking on your friend's list and see if any of them are playing a DLC game that you are thinking of buying. Ask them to be very honest with you and have them tell you what do they really think about the DLC game they have just gotten that and if they recommend it. Also try to find any reviews on a DLC game you would like to get. They are out there so you have to really look. This could be the difference of either saving you some money and Hard Drive space or not. Just be careful out there. Unless you are very rich and money is no object to you. Meaning you have just wasted you time reading this blog.
