So, I made a blog today. No, not this one lol.
I decided to review teen books and post the reviews as a blog, but i didnt want to do that here, so i made a blog on blogspot.com. come and check it out, please?
I've just realized that i've turned into my dad. Somehow, somewhere along the line, I got sucked into the wonderful world of politics and and couldnt get free of it. How did this happen? Religous watching of Keith Olbermann and Rachael Maddow probably have something to do with it...
What gets me is that I now know not only more about the state of our country than the average 17 year old, but that I know enough to get, and laugh at, the jokes my parents and various other adults make at politicians' expense. Where has my sacrosanct innocence gone?
There are days when i seriously wish I could have that innocence back, because in my travels through the internet, I have come across things and people that make my heart literally ache for my country. From my eyes, we have become a nation of accusers and accused, and everyone is being accused of something at the same time they accuse someone of something else. We are a nation that holds a grudge, not against anyone who has done anything to warrant it, but against the innocent.
Where has the American spirit gone? Are we really so weak that we buckle under the slightest hardship? I think not, not from what is written in the history books. Americans are supposed to be a proud, steadfast, loyal group of individuals, but what i see today are anarchists who have no respect for the integrity of our country, traitors who would turn their backs on their fellows, and troublemakers who do nothing but try to turn us against each other. I ask again, is this what America has become?
I sincerely hope I'm wrong, I really hope that I've just seen things in the wrong light, that I'm just being cynical. But somehow, I don't think I am...
So, i was loooking around for a poll to answer on sodahead.com, a site i like to go on in my spare time, and i ran across a pol that read: "Ann Coulter on the View: do you agree with her attack on single moms?"
Well, my interest was piqued, so i took a look at he video that was embedded into the poll: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGbWSfIL1d4&eurl=http://www.sodahead.com/question/231451/ann-coulter-on-the-view-do-you-agree-with-her-attack-on-single-moms/?page=1&feature=player_embedded
After waching that, i decided to give the lady the benefit of the doubt, i mean, she couldnt really get a word in edgewise to defend herself. so i looked up her website, and on her home page i found this: "As I describe in my new book, "Guilty: Liberal 'Victims' and Their Assault on America," controlling for socioeconomic status, race and place of residence, the strongest predictor of whether a person will end up in prison is that he was raised by a single parent. (The second strongest factor is owning a Dennis Kucinich bumper sticker.)
By 1996, 70 percent of inmates in state juvenile detention centers serving long-term sentences were raised by single mothers. Seventy percent of teenage births, dropouts, suicides, runaways, juvenile delinquents and child murderers involve children raised by single mothers. Girls raised without fathers are more sexually promiscuous and more likely to end up divorced.
A 1990 study by the left-wing Progressive Policy Institute showed that, after controlling for single motherhood, the difference in black and white crime disappeared.
Various studies come up with slightly different numbers, but all the figures are grim. A study cited in the far left-wing Village Voice found that children brought up in single-mother homes "are five times more likely to commit suicide, nine times more likely to drop out of high school, 10 times more likely to abuse chemical substances, 14 times more likely to commit rape (for the boys), 20 times more likely to end up in prison, and 32 times more likely to run away from home."
With new children being born, running away, dropping out of high school and committing murder every year, it's not a static problem to analyze. But however the numbers are run, single motherhood is a societal nuclear bomb.
Many of these studies, for example, are from the '90s, when the percentage of teenagers raised by single parents was lower than it is today. In 1990, 28 percent of children under 18 were being raised in one-parent homes -- mother or father, divorced or never-married. By 2005, more than one-third of all babies born in the U.S. were illegitimate.
That's a lot of social problems in the pipeline.
Think I'm being cruel? Imagine an America with 60 to 70 percent fewer juvenile delinquents, teenage births, teenage suicides and runaways, and you will appreciate what the sainted "single mothers" have accomplished.
Even in liberals' fevered nightmares, predatory mortgage dealers, oil speculators and Ken Lay could never do as much harm to their fellow human beings as single mothers do to their own children, to say nothing of society at large.
But the Times won't run that series because liberals adore single motherhood and the dissolution of traditional marriage in America. They detest the military, so they cite a few anecdotal examples of veterans who have committed murder and hope that no one asks for details."
By the time i was done reading this, there was no doubt in my mind that this woman is crazy. How dare she, unmarried, no children, say that single motherhood is tantamount to a crime? so my response on the poll was this: "i am not a single mother, and my mother is still married to my father. i cant, in fact, say that i am related to any single mothers, but i find myself actually offended by the things this woman has said. this woman is republican and conservative, right? so what right has she to blast single mothers when the alternative is abortion? how does she justify her arguements when she herself is such a huge contradiction? what about the deadbeat daddies who took off on unsuspecting women and left them with no choice but to raise the child alone?"
Anybody else see something fundamentally wrong with this?think about it. she A) isnt married, B) has no kids, C) is republican and as a result D) hates abortion but E) SOMEHOW thinks that sinl motherhood is wrong... ?_?
