I didnt realize how much work is put into the gaming world. With today's technology that's growing at a rapid pace and competition in the marketplace, getting the best out of gaming can be chaotic. Recently, my PS3 just bombed on me. Everytime I turn on my PS3, there would be no video signal. Before you ask, I did everything humanly possible. I checked my HDMI cable if it was loose, my power cord, HDTV, everything. So, I find myself resetting my PS3 for the signal to detect. Ok, it works again. Great, NO. Here's the thing, once I turn off my PS3 and turn it back on, it does the same thing again. No Signal. And when I turned off my PS3 again, it doesnt turn off properly. Normally, the green light in the front is suppose to blink 5 times before it shuts off and turns red. In my case, it doesnt. It goes from green to red, instantly after pressing and holding the power button for 8-10 seconds. Normally, it only takes 1-2 seconds to turn off. So I've come to the conclusion that something is seriously wrong with my PS3. From now on, I'll never buy electronics off of Ebay. And believe me, I never have. If it werent for the 60GB model, I would have steered clear of eBay. I always buy my electronics new, solely because things like this will bound to happen. Had I waited for the MGS4 bundle, I would be sitting happy like a duck on the lake. But look at me, I'm more like a squirrel that got shot by a slingshot. Happy kid: 1. Squirrel: 0. Keep in mind, my warranty is up, because it's the 60GB model. The Sony rep said to take it into a repair shop but in my area, there isnt any. I called all over town and no one returned my phone calls, mainly because they probably dont have the "know-how" to fix one in the first place! So here I am, with a dud of a PS3. It's pretty much dead weight. Of all consoles, I didnt think the PS3 would poop out on me. Seriously. If anything, I thought my 360 would give up on me first. But after two perfect Xbox 360's, Microsoft still wins. Why two? Well I had a premium and I upgraded to an Elite and it wasnt because of RROD. Just a clean upgrade for more HDD space. So now, I lost all trust in Sony's product. I will forever be paranoid just like an Xbox 360 owner after experiencing RROD or some faulty disc drive error. Gaming is hard work. Harder than I thought. Not only do we shell out big bucks for these expensive machines but they die out on us. Sony says, they dont have any authorized dealers that can repair it for me... Lame.

I wanted to talk more about this topic other than my broken PS3. Gaming is really hard work. You have to buy this and that, in order for this and that to work and connect to this and that, blah blah, friggin, blah. I have more wires and cables than anyone known to man. Whatever happened to simplicity? PS3 requiring bluetooth headsets to be used as a mic/headset when they could just release their very own PS3 headset like Microsoft's? And dont get me started with composite, s-video, component, and hdmi cables that I seem to be spending a lot of my money on, so I could get Wii and PS2 games to look good. They're all gimmicks! None of the cables look significantly better than the other. Unless it's a still image of a comparsion, stood side by side, you cant even tell! The only time you can tell is when you go HD via HDMI cable. The difference from composite to s-video is slim to none. S-video to component, colors are richer, but picture seems to blurr out more than S-Video. Electronics are so complicated when it comes to gaming. I've gone through three new SDTVs I picked up for my Wii and PS2 games, and I had to return all of them. To spend your hard earned dollars for like a small ounce of SLIGHTLY (using that term loosely) better picture quality is crazy. I dont see the difference. When it comes to 480i games, I do not see one difference. I dont want to say it, but sometimes I regret buying the Wii, and I regret buying the PS3 60GB for backwards compatibility. I was less stressed out with my old setup. I was at peace with my games. Now, it's become an all out war and my OCD has taken over me, more than ever. I am one to pay attention to every detail, while in the end, it makes no difference at the end of the day. At least not anymore. Trying to make everything seem perfect in gaming has driven me mad. And I just recieved my new graphics card and PSU, so I hope I wont be running into any trouble with that. I can almost guarantee you, I will. I'm just the kind of person who doesnt have much luck with electronics. I always end up getting the short end of the stick. Thanks for reading.

Update:

Graphics card overheated. It was hot enough to heat up the earth. It made my computer turn off by itself to protect it from permanently damaging the CPU. Mind you, I was just installing it. I didnt even get to play any games yet. My power supply unit is working just fine with my computer right now. So I'm pretty sure it's my graphics card. Defective maybe? Sigh, I told you I have bad luck with electronics. Everytime I upgrade, I get whacked in the head with all this voodoo. First it's my PS3, my HDTV with a dead pixel, my SDTVs that didnt make any difference in picture quality except made it worst, and to top it off, Fedex dinged up my SDTV pretty bad. I am up to here with electronics. I feel so bad and depressed. All this work and money, for more headache. Sigh. I'll just crawl under a rock and play catch the worms. Screw new age technology!

Once again, ANOTHER update:

I found another dead pixel on my HDTV. I already called Circuit City and I'm taking it back today. It's within my 30 day return guarantee. I was going to live with the one dead pixel but TWO?! No way!

I lied, one more update:

Guitar Hero 3 wireless guitar will not detect motion when I swing my guitar in an upwards motion to get a rock meter boost. Yet another faulty electronic device.

Dang man that sucks. What are you going to do about the ps3?
Posted Jun 20, 2008 9:14 pm PT
I'll probaby sell it on eBay "as-is" in other words, broken but it can be fixed. These are sold on eBay and many people buy some of their systems this way. It's weird, but they do. That might be my only route at this point, as I could probably get $200 or so for it.

Elann,I think you know where I stand on this issue, especially with my current 360 dilemmas. I try and stay away from PC gaming for some of the very reasons in which you speak of,although it seems like the Console industry is getting almost as tedious,an expensive.

Elann2008: Yikes that sucks man. My poor xbox 360 probably wont survive this hot summer. It was hotter than hell today. Glad it'll start coolingdown so i can play some BF:BC.

Darrenfps: I know what you mean man, and I'll tell you the reason right now. I recieved my 8800GT graphics card and PSU today. Wanna know what happened? My graphics card overheated. It was scorching hot. So hot, that I couldnt even touch it unless I wanted 1st degree burns. The PSU - power supply unit by Corsair 750w, is functioning properly. I'm using it as we speak, but what the heck happened to the graphics card? I have installed graphics cards in the past back when it was complicated to install. But now that it's more simplisitic, it overheats on me? Boy, I have the worst luck. I'm telling you. I nearly loss my computer too, I thought it fried my motherboard. It was doing a startup repair on my computer and it said, it couldnt be fixed. You should have seen the expression on my face. Priceless. I turned it off and and turned my PC back on again and thankfully it worked. I'm taking my computer to Firedog at bestbuy tomorrow to see if they can install my graphics card, or I might just have my friend's uncle do it for me. Seeing as how, anyone can install graphics cards these days, there shouldnt be a problem. All you have to do is stick the card into the socket and stick the 6-pin connector into the graphics card 6-pin socket. Why do things have to be so complicated? Sorry guys, I'm just frustrated. From now on, I'm not touching anything even if I think I know how to do it. Even if I KNOW how to do it. I think I'm cursed.

Craigalan23: I hear ya bro. This southern California heat is killing me and my electronics. I'm already looking into buying an air conditioner for my room again. I use to have a Goldstar 6,000 BTU Air Con that did the trick. My room was like heaven in the summer. An oasis. I'm looking at a Haier 6,000 BTU Air Con that goes for $130. That should do. You should look into it too. It's not worth it if your electronics and everything go haywire and fry on ya. I think I'll invest my $130 so everything will function properly. I'd hate to come home and find that my electronics are totally fried. Or the first thing you know, I'm playing Ninja Gaiden 2 and Beeezzzpp! Xbox 360 overheated. *dead box* You know what I mean? So I think it's worth the investment and I'm not going to be cheap just so I can save a hundred books. Not to mention the HDTV and everything else in here.

Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity! .....or at least as it pertains to technology.eh?

Talk about bad luck ? I may have you beat in that category. My PC is fairly new,and it was already in the repair shop a few months after I purchased it. When I finally got it back from repair, about a week later it completely conks out on me,as in,it won't even start up.I then send it back to the repair center, and get a phone call a couple days later. They tell me its got spill damage, and its going to cost me $ 700.00 to repair.I'm like, wait one moment here sir,I have a warranty that will cover all this damage. He claimed that my warranty did not cover spill damage.

Elann, when I purchased this laptop,I was lead to believe that I had the full warranty, besides I'm a little OCD,I would never in a million years spill anything on my laptop. I'm way to carefull.Long story short,I had to pay to get my laptop repaired, and purchase an extended warranty, which I was sure I already had.I mean, who buys a laptop with no warranty ? I was out hustled from beginning to end on this PC. Foremost, the spill damage came from the repair center, and secondly,I have filed a grievance with ShopNbc.SNBC,is where I purchased it from.I could have bought three laptops for the price this piece of junk has cost me. Moral of my story, bad luck comes to all of us at some point in our lives. Its just that some people feel its wrath more often.

Elann2008: I'd purchase a good ac but there's nowhere to place it in my room. Luckily i have a wii and i can just switch off. Sucks but what can you do. I need the new Xbox 360 i was unlucky and bought the jet engine version .
Posted Jun 21, 2008 11:07 am PT
Lol, and that's why I don't shop on eBay! =] Technology can be a b****
haha
Posted Jun 21, 2008 11:23 am PT
I'll be under that rock soon to fight the heat . Man now that sucks! That's why i just buy them for alittle more from a retailer. Dang man i'm dying here lol. My poor Xbox has to rest until later tonight,

Bad luck, bad luck, bad luck!
Posted Jun 21, 2008 12:15 pm PT
Ms Cortana: Lol. I couldnt agree more! Simplicity, that is the key!

Darrenfps: You have me beat. After reading your comment, I feel better. You definitely have worse luck than I do. First your Xbox 360 conking out, how many times? SIX?! Oh man, Darren. I would have probably would have just shoved the 360 up Microsoft's face. Lol. And then, your laptop? $700 repair? Boy George, I wouldnt have the patience for that, let me tell you. You are an extremely patient person. And you are right, some of us experience some bad luck and people like me definitely feel it a lot more, lol.

Craigalan23: Jet engine one eh? Join the club, lol. I bought an elite and it's pretty loud. Sounds like a jet engine, just like you stated. My old premium was quiet. Sometimes I regret upgrading. More bad luck? lol!
Posted Jun 21, 2008 3:14 pm PT
imakillaholic: I hear ya man. Loud and clear. I'm steering clear from eBay from now on. I'll only buy video games from now on and they better be brand new. Anyone on eBay can sell just about anything and get away with it. Technology can definitely be a _____ . You can fill it out for me, guys.

Hazelnutman: Yup, lots of bad luck. So you better stay away from me. It might rub off onto ya! lol jk
Posted Jun 21, 2008 3:18 pm PT
Craigalan23: Any chance that I get, I'll buy brand new from a retailer with warranty. In this case, the 60GB was discontinued. It was a bad move though, I should have waited for the MGS4 bundle. My pre-concieved knowledge of the Emotion engine was mistaken in error. I would have been just fine with the 80GB's software emulator.
Posted Jun 21, 2008 3:20 pm PT
Some updates: I got an RA number to return my graphics card so that should take about 1-2 weeks to clear and hopefully, they'll send me a replacement, repair it, or give me a full refund.

I'm selling my 60GB PS3 "as is" on eBay. I should be able to get a couple hundred dollars or a bit more for it.

I'm making out my last comments before I head to Circuit City to get an exchange for this HDTV.
Posted Jun 21, 2008 3:23 pm PT
Elann2008: That's good man i'm glad. Yeah it sucks i was unlucky lol. Whenever my xbox 360 kicks it i hope i get a new one or for that matter it never dies lol. I hate this i can't get BF:BC until tuesday or Wednesday.
Posted Jun 21, 2008 4:47 pm PT
It's not only hard work but expensive!
Posted Jun 21, 2008 7:03 pm PT
Craigalan23: Lol. BF:BC is going to really fun. I'm not getting it day one but probably sometime next month when people start selling used copies. So far, IGN gave it 8.6, which is a strong score. I wonder what stopped them from giving them a 9.0. It could be the story. I'm not surprised your 360 sounds like a jet engine. Did you buy it new or used? Either way, it'll be considerably loud. From personal experience, the more I played my 360, the quieter it got. It was built to be used. Just avoid playing long hours (4-5 hours or more).

WalkingP: Hey hey! Long time no see. You're right. Gaming is not only hard work but it can be an expensive hobby as well.
Posted Jun 21, 2008 8:09 pm PT
Elan2008: It was brand new and made somtime in November of 07. Just unlucky i guess my nana bought me it and had no idea. Oh i give my xbox 360 breaks and check the heat. It's in an entertainment center but i take it out and place it on a small portable coffee table. Yeah the story will be eh they complained about it. It wont be GOTY material or anything but a really great game that shouldn't be missed.
Posted Jun 21, 2008 10:34 pm PT
yes it is, keeping up with buying all the new games and since there is so many good ones coming its OVERWELMING

Craigalan23: Ah I see. You should be okay. Looks like you have one of the 2nd to last newer chips, if that makes sense. I purchased mine in December 2007 (my other 360) and I'm pretty sure it was built in August or some time around there. Annd it worked perfectly.

BF:BC is just one of those solid, fun games. It's a good pick up if you dont have many games you need to work on.

PloKoon_: Yeah games are flowing in this summer, fall, all the way into the Holiday Season. Not to mention, Q1 2009. It seems to be the pattern though. Towards the end of the year, games come out because of the holidays. Great time to hit the consumer's pockets.
Posted Jun 22, 2008 4:38 pm PT
Elann2008:Yeah my Xbox 360 works like a charm. Yeah BF:BC's great right now i'm deciding between buying Ut3 or R6:V2 or Gears. I've played the demo to death and it'll be a fun break from COD4.
Posted Jun 22, 2008 4:54 pm PT
Craigalan23: First, buy Gears of War. You wont regret it, trust me. Best game on the Xbox 360 by far if not the best shooter on the planet to date. I squeezed so many hours from Gears of War on the single player campaign, which has co-op for the actual campaign story mode - which most, if not all games do not do. That makes Gears of War really unique. And the multiplayer is insanely addictive. There's so much replay value that this game is worth $120. I would buy it at that price.

Rainbow Six Vegas 2 was a pretty solid shooter for me. I wasnt ecstatic about it or anything. What I did like about it were the customizations and level ranking. A lot of replay value. Multiplayer is a love or hate situation.

Unreal Tournament 3 is a fast-paced shooter. Weak single player campaign according to reviews. Mutliplayer is where it's at, apparently. Xbox 360 has improved graphics. Better framerate, better texturing and a lot of the things like gun models are polished up. Still, no sign of user created mods. Personally, I would go with the PS3 version. User created mods are what makes UT3, UT3.

Man I feel bad for you, even helping you, you having so many failing electronic devices, hell my Xbox360 from october 2006 is still fine. Bah, I'll be sending you some sites to help you with your computer building soon, I'm doing some research and I got some mid-term exams for university now, so I need to delay it.
Posted Jun 24, 2008 9:27 pm PT
Taiko88: Thank you so much Taiko. You've been so nice, friendly, and helpful, going out of your way to respond to my numerous questions. All of this is happening for a reason because now I have turned back to PC gaming, while still playing consoles, of course. I'm selecting all the components for my PC build at the moment and I'm narrowing down my selection on my graphics card. If you'd like, and I know you're busy, so you probably wont enjoy this so much. I'll link all the components to you and tell me what you think or what I should change. Feel free to critique. I just want to run Crysis smoothly at 1920x1080. If I have to take it down a notch to 16x12, that will be fine. I'm trying to play it on my LCD HDTV 46" 1080p. If I can get Crysis looking nice on the HDTV, I can opt out of my Benq V2400WD LCD Monitor and return it to Tigerdirect.

Good luck on your mid-terms Taiko88. Talk to you soon. Take care.
Posted Jun 24, 2008 9:47 pm PT
Elann2008: Yeah it's a toss up between the three, I'll probably just pick up Gears and COD3. Then buy UT3 another time when i have spare money.
Posted Jun 25, 2008 11:39 am PT
Yeah, COD4 and especially Gears of War are must-haves. UT3 should be fun but dont expect a single player campaign with substance.
Posted Jun 25, 2008 2:08 pm PT
Damn right. I've had multiple 360's and 2 PS3's. I wish this stuff was built a little better. I give the systems proper ventilation and keep the dust away. It's a shame. I never buy a piece of electronic equipment without the Best Buy PRP to go along with it. I had one stuck or dead pixel on my piano black slim, but it actually went away somehow. It's no longer on the screen. Odd!
Posted Jun 25, 2008 3:34 pm PT
After hearing from Darren, and BioShockOwnz, I feel better. I dont feel good that it happened to you too! No.. of course not. But I feel better knowing that it happens to other people as well, that I'm not the only one. Multiple 360's and 2 PS3s?! That's insane. It really is. Honestly, I didnt think the PS3 would be faulty. That thing is so sturdy and sleek. It's a beautiful machine of high quality. I never imagined it would go bonkers on us. Meh, that goes to show how reliant electronics are, although I never thought they were anyways. That's why man will never be replaced by machines, at least not entirely.
Posted Jun 25, 2008 7:03 pm PT
Google 'PS3 disc read error'. It's more widespread than some would believe. The PS3's disc drive just craps out and stops reading discs. Its happened to some other guys that post on System Wars. It stinks, no doubt.
Posted Jun 28, 2008 12:22 pm PT
Here I thought the PS3 was immune to hardware issues. I thought the Xbox 360 was the only faulty system. Well, that's good to know. The next PS3 I am getting will be a 40GB PS3. Nothing special this time. I'm keepin' it simple. I do miss my PS3 but I can wait. I'll probably pick one up around the time Little Big Planet releases, hehe. I'm learning to be patient. My friend in Canada says, "You're such an American." And I laugh, lol. He's referring to how impatient I can be and how I want things, now, now, now! I'm working on it. And I think I'm getting better. I cant help it sometimes, I think games run in my blood, lol.
