Hey guys. Seeing as how vids are up and running again, and I just can't seem to get enough of myself, I figured I'd feed you all a double portion of my delicious and oh-so-wise cooking. Enclosed you'll find version 2.0 of my latest crime against humanity, as well as the usual incoherent babbling.
TALKIES
Last week, I finally managed to catch a flick that I've been meaning to watch: "The Wrestler." Now, I've heard wonderful things about this movie. It's supposed to be the rebirth of Mickey Rourke. It's supposed to be a mixture of triumph and tragedy. It's supposed to evoke such emotion that the only way you'll feel anything even close to it for the rest of your miserable life is if you eat three pounds of chocolate and then set a box of puppies on fire.
It's just a shame no one bothered to tell me how boring it is. Maybe there's something wrong with me, but I had a really hard time caring about what was happening on screen. Mr. Rourke does an excellent job, to be certain, and I'll probably go through it again, seeing as how occasionally I'll watch something and hate it the first time through and then love it later on, but as it stands now I really don't see what the fuss is all about.
TALKIETOOB
I'm sure you guys don't want me to go into some long diatribe about my television viewing habits, so I won't. Let me just say that I have discovered "Dead Like Me," and I'm really enjoying it. Season one is better than two, but overall I'm really digging the show. I just wish they'd give the "Troubled Family" routine a rest. I think fifteen episodes in a row are more than enough to get the point across.
GAMING:
I came to a conclusion the other day: I'm not going to buy games at full price anymore. New or used, my limit is now thirty bucks. Why, you didn't ask but I'll tell you anyway? Simply put: because of downloadable content.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to start speaking of how DLC is a plaugevisited upon the gaming world to punish it for its sins. I actually think it's a good thing. My trouble is this: most games, however enjoyable they may be, are not worth eighty or ninety dollars to me. They're just not. In fact, the only game I can think of right now that is worth the extra dough is Fallout 3.
For example: Red Faction. Good game. Solid game. Am I willing to go from spending sixty bucks to spending ninety by purchasing the three downloads? Hell no. I said it was good, not that it would do my taxes for me. The way I see it, if I spend thirty on the game, I won't have as much trouble justifying the purchase of thirty dollars worth of DLC. But that's just me. Moving on.
Managed to pick up a few games of late. Prince of Persia, the new Banjo Kazooie, and Devil May Cry 4. Haven't really gotten far enough into Banjo or DMC to give a solid opinion on either, but I can say I'm enjoying them both. Still not sure about Prince. I find myself playing it in very small doses, which is never a good sign.
VERSION 2.0
Couple of quick notes before we get started:
---Thanks to indecisiverhino for the suggestion concerning Wrex. Not sure how I missed the connection, though I suspect allowing my stupidity to go unchecked for so long has something to do with it.
---Thanks to GabuEx for the suggestion concerning the "Wolverine" bit. I figured the ambassador walking off in a huff was enough to sell the scene. I was wrong.
---The vid is now 7.23 times better than it was before.
----I used science to reach that figure.
---It's nowhere near perfect, and it's still mostly a long string of nonsensical conversations, but the lip-synching is much better.
--Ditched the aliens. If you can't see their lips moving, what's the point?
---The opening sequence is a shot at elevator rides. Not sure how well it works, though if you feel the need to explain the joke....
---Thanks for watching.
Comments
I've heard great things about Dead Like Me. *sigh* Added to the "To Do," list.
Yay for cheap gaming. I don't buy full price games at all. It puts me behind the times a bit, but oh well. The game still plays the same six months later.
@mprezzy
The game may play even better due to patches or free downloadable content! I also find that 6 months later when the hype has died down you can see how it really compares to other games in the genre and whether it is still worth your time. There are some so-so games that I imagine I will enjoy, but there are usually better games out there. I wouldn't mind checking out Timeshift and Blacksite for example, but there always seem to be better shooters available.
Keep up the great work and I so look forward to the next one!
As for the not purchasing any new games... I too am not really doing that much anymore... but working on completing my "Stack O' Games" pile and then "TRADING" them in towards new ones so I can keep my bank account intact!
@mprezzy: I don't mean to sound like a sales rep for the site, but hulu actually has both seasons now. Honestly though, I'm enjoying them enough that I'll probably pick them up on DVD. The only thing that I worry about when I don't buy a game early is missing out on the multiplayer. Though I guess I shouldn't. If a the MP community is dead six months after the game comes out, it probably wasn't worth playing anyway.
@bacchus2: I forgot to carry the 12. Whoops.
@MJoanne: Maybe I can get Melo to do them for you. He's pretty bored most of the time.
@Sandpiper121PP: I'll admit that seeing Commander Shepard use the word "pattycake" and talk about making 120 bucks makes me giggle. Good luck with that stack-o-games, by the way. Finished anything else of late?
@indecisiverhino: I didn't say it was an exact science.
@Kloud_450: Non-specific phrase of gratitude, Kloud.
@Gen_Warbuff: Can do, sir. Glad you enjoyed it.
I used to run out and get games I wanted when they came out. But by the time I got to play it, the price dropped. I could have saved money if I just waited. So now I try to only buy a game when I am ready to play it. So it's rare I pay full price anymore. On the other hand, I won't buy used games because Gamestop's used prices are a rip off. For the extra $3-5 I'd rather have a brand new game with no risk of some kid trashing the disk, ripping the book... plus I help the devs make a little more money to fund the next generation of games.
Word of advice: Don't trade your games in, you get a fraction of what they are worth. Take the little bit of effort and ebay or craigslist them.
@eajack: I really wish more companies would do what Bethesda or Rockstar have done with their DLC. The fact that Shivering Isles is on a disc, and TLAD and The Ballad of Gay Tony will be soon, is a smart way to do things. It boosts sales, and it gives gamers options. I really hope more pubs/developers will follow suit.
@rebelway: It's actually kind of easy (just time consuming). I just use my digital camera to film the in game footage, feed it all into the editing software I have, and then attach .wavs and chop up the scenes as needed. It took several hours on the first go round, but its just a matter of getting the on screen speech to sync up with the .wavs.
As for Prince of Persia- give it a chance, I hated the Prince's attitude at first but he gets some good lines later on and the game itself is really immersive if you sit down and play it for a while. I would honestly rate it as one of my favourites on the 360. Be prepared for a bit of a kick in the teeth with the ending though...
@rebelway: Oh, sorry. Duh. I guess that would be a helpful bit of info. I use "Pinnacle Studio 12."
@tprezzy12: I'm not a fan of wrestling anymore. Used to be, but that was a few years back. But I don't think that's why I didn't care for the movie. The themes it covers are ones that most people can relate to ( though his experience with those themes are pushed to the extreme). I'm really not sure why I didn't like the movie. I liked Mickey's character, I liked the style of the film, but I still feel like something was missing. Anyway, my opinion may change on it. Hell, I didn't like Fallout 3 for the first three or four hours I played it, but it quickly became one of my all time favorites.
