Demon's Souls

Originally I had not planned to buy this game. I kept hearing how diificult it was and honestly, it never really captured my attention except for the fact that is published by Atlus. However, thanks to my buddy at Gamestop who began rambling on about this game I became more and more interested in it to the point where I then pre-ordered and bought the Deluxe Edition of the game. And as of right now, I am not regretting it at all. The reviews say it all with their high ratings of 9's but honestly I never saw this game coming so strong. The game is an action RPG that feels similiar to Oblivion in some aspects but completely different than what is out there. The game features amazing 4 player co-op and when you die (which will happen a lot), you can go into other player's worlds and try to assassinate them to take their souls and reclaim your body back. The game is constantly connected to online so you will see ghosts of other plays in the same area as you. You also spot bloodstains on the ground which when examined shows you how a player died here. Theres so many aspects to this game that make it simply awesome that I can't really put it into a blog. Maybe I'll write a review sometime down the road. So anyways, for all of you PS3 owners who are hardcore gamers, buy this game, and buy it soon because I keep hearing that its already becoming more and more difficult to find when it literally just released yesterday. But be weary, only hardcore gamers should play this game. The punishing difficulty will turn off a lot of people, especially more casual gamers.

Yeah, I am going to have to buy this and Uncharted 2, despite my lack of a PS3.

While it is published by Atlus, the game is develped by From Software, which hasn't a bonafide critic's darling since Otogi, so I wasn't expecting much. I've been pleasantly surprised by the reaction to it's release and it definitely sounds like a game I'd like to try. It sounds like a daunting task to take on a game that hard, but as long as the deaths aren't cheap I can deal with it.

Heard it sounds awesome! I can't wait to get it today!

What's in the deluxe edition?

@mattcarlo: Once you get the PS3, remember this game.

@polsci1503: True, but like you said they do make steller games once in awhile. Ninja Blade was very good surprisingly and this one is definately their best game since the original Otogi. And let me tell you, the deaths become normal to you after awhile. The cool thing is that it was only $10 more.

@tiggerboy: Good luck playing it man, I have your PSN name so we'll have to play it some time.

@johnsteed7: It comes in this cool caseing and it has the strategy guide in it. And the only way to ever get the strategy game is to buy the Deluxe Edition, they don't sell them individually. The strategy guide is made by them directly rather than someone like Prima or Bradley games.

I'm thrilled about this game too and the extreme difficulty is expected since Atlus is the publisher

Well I watched the video review on gametrailers since I was curious and I came away loving the online aspects of this game and I'm normally someone that doesn't care about that area. Seeing how other players died based on blood stains is just plain creepy and cool at the same time.

@alidallal: I'm glad you're excited about this game. So far, it seems it's getting more and more attention which is awesome because the game is amazing.

@visionary: The online aspects of the game are like no other and completely innovative. I've seen bloodstains that actually save my life. One for example, I saw the guy run around this corner and start getting hit like crazy so when I took that corner, I walked with caution and sure enough three guys were right there waiting for me.

From Software has made some pretty interesting games in the past. I remember this game called Evergrace, it wasn't the most amazing game ever, but you could equip your characters with different weapons and armors and they all had unique graphics that displayed when you equipped them. For its time, this was a pretty neat feature. A lot of modern games still re-use graphics or else palette swap them to use for multiple things.

It's made by FromSoftware right? those guys made my favorite gamecube sleeperhit LostKingdoms...

@Ovirew: Hell, I forgot Evergrace was made by From Software. That was one of my very first games for the PS2 and I liked it a lot back then.

@pycho22solid: Yep, it's made by them. I never got to play LostKingdoms.

Sounds like I'm in the same boat you were. I was turned off by the difficulty, but so many people whose opinions I respect keep saying how amazing it is. This is definitely my next purchase after Borderlands.

@Paul_GameFury: After playing more and more of this game I easily name this the best game of '09....so far. It is so innovative and so unique and addicting that there is no reason for me to dislike this game. Sure, the difficulty is punishing but never once have I ever felt like the way I do with this game. I really feel like I accomplished something after beating a boss and a level. Definately get this game when given the chance.
