Thanks so much for listing this. There are so many questions about it all the time, it's nice to have it in one spot.

Thanks!!! This helped a lot..

Posting this in one of the forums would be really useful so more people could see it. I find it really annoying though that you get less points if you do it all in one go. I add about twenty cast members in one go and if I did them individually I would get a lot more points.

It's been posted more times than I can remember (many times incorrectly, as well), but they get too hard to find and threads get deleted after 30 days of inactivity.

I'm not sure, but I believe that adding a new episode is 10 pts. Anyone know for sure?

Adding an episode is worth 8 points unless it has been changed recently.

Thx for this. Helps prioritize things.

The main reason that I'm questioning it is that it was grailwolf who questioned if it was 8 or 10.

I'm a recent returnee after the big takeover from TV Tome so I'm still trying to learn things here.

I've seach a lot but can't find information on the point spread from level to level. In other words, the above explains how many points we get for the average submissions. But how many points does it take to get from level to level? Is it different for the levels, say is it the same amount of points to get from level 1 to level 2 as it is to get from level 31 to level 32? Or is it all different?

Can someone post that info too?

Thanks,

sounddude

This is only for CPs, which are the contribution points towards a particular show or person guide. What you're talking about are levels (level xx yy%), these reflect all that you do on the site while logged in. Accepted contributions do increase your level quite a bit, but there is no direct link to how much a contribution increases you're level, because as your level increases everything is worth less in terms of % increase. At level 2.68 I made 25 contributions for an increase of 1.66, at level 4.34 I made 25 contributions for an increase of 0.99. Eventually, what would get you a one level increase, will be worth less than 1%.

Thanks for the info. I also deleted the duplicate postings (done during one of the apparent crashes of the site here).

Well it does kinda stink that the higher you get, the more work it takes to get less for it. Keep the carrot just a little further in front of the donkey. And all free labor. Pretty smart on their part. We do it all for...for...what do we do this for? To see our "work" in print online when most of it is rewritting someone else's work, who did the same thing?

Again, thanks for your information!

Does anyone know if show/episode review also count against your CP or just your level?
Posted Jan 15, 2006 6:35 am PT
I also have another question or two that you could add to your chart.

I believe to become editor of a show that does not have an editor, you need to submit 80 points worth of approved content. Is this correct? I heard somewhere that it was actually 40 points but the forums are so difficult to go back through, especially when you don't have a lot of time.

My question is two fold:

If the show has a listed editor, how many points do you need to become editor of that show? Is it 80 more than they have? Not that I want to do this but I'd like to have the info. I figure if a person wants to keep the show, they will either not approve your submissions or do their best to stay that magic number ahead of you.

Next:

If a show has a retired editor, do you still need to beat their points level (ie 800) at the time of their retirement? If so, by how much? Or do you just need to be the next highest editor above 80?

Thanks for your help. If it's okay, I would like to repost your info here (with due credit to you and your blog) on my blog, mostly for my own use.

Peace,

sd

Okay I can confirm that adding a new episode is only worth 8 points. I will send a PM to make sure you get the message.

Reviews get points towards your level, but no CPs (for more info see the " ***General NEWBIE questions (How do I....) [ALL NEW USERS PLEASE READ]" thread that I linked to above.

Again, please read the ***General NEWBIE questions (How do I....) [ALL NEW USERS PLEASE READ] topic I linked to in a previous comment. To make it available here as well, it takes 80 CPs for a show and 40 CPs for a person, when there is an editor it takes those amounts over the editor's CPs. Retired editor's CPs don't matter, you just have to be the highest contributor above the CPs needed to become an editor for that guide if there were no editor.

No problem with adding it to your blog, but this was a collaborative effort so please thank the same people that I did in mine.

Looks about right according to what I knew when I starting looking. Of course that was over 4 months ago.

Are you sure that's all for cast? I have someone who is levelling up fast for those. I do more than cast contributions, so I never bothered to check on this myself.
Posted Feb 25, 2006 6:43 am PT
It's quite possible to go up in CPs up quickly if they're entered in small groups.
Posted Feb 26, 2006 4:19 am PT
Sounds about right.
But on some person guides, I've seen people with uneven numbers less than 5 (ie 1 or 3). How would they go about that? Quotes & trivia are 2 each.
Posted Jul 19, 2006 3:46 pm PT
xander_ry_socks: The answer is that the original CPs for person pages were lower, so all TVTome legacy CPs were valued at lower levels. I have lots of these legacy CP totals of 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, etc.

Oh, okay.

Why is the recap value the same as a summary? A recap takes an incredible amount of work, so much more than a summary. Also, what is the logic behind reducing percentage values as your level rises... it seems sort of counter-intuitive if they want the site to continue improving Just wondering. Appreciate the help.
Posted Aug 8, 2006 12:04 pm PT
Layle1, the reason is that tv.com assigned the CP value for the form, and not for the individual items. Several of us have requested that they make the CP values apply for the items individually, depending on the amount of work and the value to the guide, but so far it's still the way they set it up originally.

As to what the logic is behind reducing percentage values as your level rises, they make the levels easier to reach at lower levels and harder as your level rises. If they didn't do this there would be users on level 2 million by now, or people at lower levels who would give up on the site because they can't raise their level quickly enough.

Thanks for the help -- it helps . And you're right, put like that the level values make sense, it just must be a little frustrating up high... not that I'll have to worry about that for awhile! Good luck on the CP value parity; it's a very worthy cause.
