I've been doing a virtual tour of the Dallas area using Google Maps Street View. I multitask and watch the news or talk shows at the same time. I just finished watching singer Erin McCarley performing on Letterman and he asked her where she was from. She grew up in Garland, TX, and it turns out I'm looking at her HS at the same time. I can't get a really good look because they failed to cover the side street it's on, but I'm seeing part of it from the nearby main street.
I was originally planning to actually go to Dallas in a few months, since I've never been there, but I'm starting to wonder if I should bother because I'm seeing most of what I'd be seeing. The main difference is that I can't go into a restaurant.
In some ways, I get to see more because I don't have to pay attention to my driving so I can look around. The problem is that so many signs are out of focus. I'll take a step with the program to see if I can get a better look and then the sign is blocked by a tree or it's now at too steep of an angle.
Although I do want Google to concentrate on greater coverage of the world, I hope they'll go back to places and put more thought into the weather conditions. When it's cloudy, signs are harder to read. Or sometimes they are grabbing the photos when the sun is too low in the sky.
