Posting this blog my very first blog infact, because I'm still dissatisfied with the idea NBC had to stop broadcasting in the Hockey Arenas of both Detroit and Pittsburgh. This dead horse is still twitching for me.

We're witnessing a great series so far. No matter what your opinion is on the calls being made or what team you express your love for. We're seeing some great hard nosed hockey being played. What better way to enjoy that Hockey then with friends and family at the Joe? or at the Igloo?

Well in this case it has not and will not be an option for anyone. Instead you'll have to relegate yourself to a bar, a friends house or if worse comes to worse at your own house. Not that there's anything wrong with being alone or with very few people. But speaking for Detroit and the Metro area because that's what I'm familiar with, Hockey finals with the Wings involved is an event. It's a manifestation of what our community actually is but is rarely shown in the media. With all the economic woes surfacing almost daily, it's nice to sit back with friends, good food, good drink and cheer and boo with the best of them.

Some might also say going to bars etc...is an acceptable alternative for not being at an arena. But tell that to all those who have children to take care of, or a tight budget, getting into the Joe was only 5 bucks.

It really is a shared experience, but because of an executives decision to push for even the smallest scraps of ratings %s. That community will have to try just that much harder to organize itself, and become just a little bit less mainstream.

Pessimism aside, GO WINGS!!!111
