The following is something I posted in the forum here at GameSpot, and later decided would make a better "Blog" (I guess). I've been reading up on Nintendo's latest console, the Wii, and I for one am VERY excited about the potential of this machine!
However, in reading other user comments and what not, several things have come to mind and I thought I'd start sharing them. Why? Because I have no life outside of school and my wife and kids, and I'm trying to kill time until the Wii actually comes out and I can afford to buy it.... ![]()
So here is my first forum post about this topic. I hope someone enjoys, and those that disagree I hope can express their views without resorting to name calling or anything like that:
Ok, first of all, I just wanna say that I don’t want this to turn into a fight or anything. I’m just expressing some opinions, thoughts and what not after reading several things by several people on several sites.
So…
Does it really matter?
First, there seems to be huge debates on whether or not the Wii is "true next-gen". Some are avid that it isn’t, some are avid that it is defending it all the way.
Does it really matter if it is or isn’t? I mean, if it isn’t, is that fact alone going to diminish the fun you have with it? Even if it’s NOT (worst case), I myself cannot WAIT to play it. I myself do not care if it is or isn’t, just as long as it is as good as it sounds and sticks around for a while after buying it.
Second, Wii is not HD, and it’s graphics capabilities aren’t as "big" as PS3 and/or 360. So what? Now, this brings up two thoughts.
2-A, how many people who are complaining about the lack of HD support actually HAVE HD TVs? I myself don’t know a single person who has an actual High Definition TV.
2-B, would lower graphics (and by lower graphics I mean lower than the current "standards", which even lower than today’s standards are still WAY better than some of my own personal favorites), does that REALLY matter?
Lets say you have two games. The first, Game A, has GREAT graphics. The second, Game B, has average graphics.
Game A, though it LOOKS great, is just average in "fun" and "game play". You play it once, and don’t care to play again.
Game B however has GREAT replay value. It’s one of those games you can play over and over again. (For me this would be Final Fantasy 7. Though it may suck graphic wise when compared to today’s games, I ALWAYS find myself going back to it.)
So my question is, which is better? Game A, or Game B?
Yes, I realize that it won’t always be that cut and dry, but often it is (to me).
Third, My Console Is Better Than Yours!
Why do so many people pit their console against all the others? Just because you’re a fan of "A", does that really mean that no one else can like "B"?
Why does it matter if someone else likes a different console than you? If "Guy Smilie" over there likes "B", and you like "A", is ANYTHING he says going to change the way you feel about "A"?
I can totally understand defending your preference, or just "educating" someone else on something that they may not be aware of. But, are they really "idiots" just because they like "B" more than "A"?
Fourth, WE WIN!!!!
With this whole "Console War" thing.. Does it really matter who wins and who looses? I mean, as long as the "looser" still is able to make enough to continue on and bring you great games for your console for several years, does it really matter if they "lost" over all?
I could be wrong, but I’m sure that no matter what, Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii will be around for a while. I’m sure that they will ALL make enough to keep things going… Especially since there are a LOT of people who pick more than ONE console, and between them all, I’m sure all three will do well.
So, even if your console looses, is that fact going to take away from your own personal experience when playing?
Anyway, that’s about all for right now. I got plenty more thoughts brewing, but this is already more than enough possibly.
And again, I really am NOT wanting any kind of "fight" here. I’m just asking questions. Curiosity and all. Would love to hear some input and some GOOD discussion going on here..
But PLEASE, for the LOVE OF GOD, NO name calling…
Please?
Oh, BTW… I personally think that Wii is going to TOTALLY rock!!! I cannot wait for it to come out!!! But, that IS just MY opinion.
Thank you.
So, this is my first "blog". To be honest, I’m not really sure what exactly a "blog" is, or its appeal. I mean, in my opinion blogs seem to be nothing more than glorified forum posts with fewer options. But, when in Rome right?
So, this will be a little introduction to who I am, because I’m sure you’re all DYING to know (yes, I can be rather sarcastic at times).
General Info
My real name is Robert. I’m 29, married with two kids (one boy, one girl). Back in 2002, I left my job to take care of my son in an effort to keep him out of day care (we got burnt pretty bad by the last day care provider). It’s been great spending time with the kids, but I’ll tell you, I cannot WAIT till my daughter is in school so I can get back to work.
For the past two years or so, I’ve been attempting to be a full time student. However, it’s rather difficult finding classes I can actually get to and need with our full schedules and only one car. I’m going for a Networking AA and several Web related certificates.
It is my hope to eventually have my own Web Design/Programming business, and maybe even my own Hosting company.
Interests
This could take up a lot of time and space, so I’ll just give it in a nutshell. I like whatever’s fun. TV, movies, music, games (video, card, board, etc), bowling, horse shoes, mini golf, pool, well, you get the picture. Unfortunately, I don’t have much time or money for most of that anymore, so I pretty much stick to the first three or four.
I use to DJ for an Internet radio station, and was also the webmaster. But, it got too stressful so I had to step down for my own health. Though, I’m not going to go into detail about that.
Other
I frequented this site back when it was tvtome.com, and signed up when it made the switch to here. But, I almost never logged in until recently. However, since I stopped Djing, I’ve been looking for something to kill some time.
Well, that’s about it (more or less). I could probably go into more detail about movies, games and music (no need for TV I think, lol). But, I wouldn’t want to bore anyone any more than I already have.
I look forward to checking out this site in more detail, reading what the site has to offer, and maybe writing some more blogs/reviews.
