Have a new TV. It's a 37 inch LCD TV by LG. It's HDTV compatible and has a TV tuner/de-scrambler. It'll pick up channels that my other TV won't without the cable box.
I can now watch SDPB(local PBS station) in High Definition! It's like looking out the window of our room. When you compare regular cable with HD it's incredible, the difference. Like night and day practically. We also get some of the main networks in HD but it depends on the program how good it looks, weather it's real HD or just regular TV sent on the HD channel. You can tell by the black bars on either side of the set. If they're there it's not HD.
Sound on the TV is amazing as well for the two front facing, side mounted speakers. It has a feature that allows you to select a different sound setting on the fly like some stereos. It has the same sort of thing for the contrast, brightness, color and tint settings. Some premade settings you can switch to depending on what you like or user settings that you can play with and adjust how you want.
The TV has about 8 connections available for various components. You can connect via 2 AV RCA(yellow, red, white) with S-video imputs or you can use the 2 component(Y,Pb,Pr) imputs with sound(red, white). You can also use DVI, HDMI or RGB to connect a PC. I currently have a PS2(just for games) and a DVD(progressive scan) connected using the component video. The other two connections are the two(cable, antenna) coaxial cable inputs. The TV also has one RCA output as well as a Digital audio output. There is also a slot for a cable card if your cable company sells them.
Depending on the connection and/or program(you get a higher resolution with certain connections) you can get 480i to 1080i. HDMI is the best resolution at 1920 X 1080i.
The TV also has PIP mode. You can use 3 POP mode, swap, and change the channel in PIP as well as a twin picture mode two channels/sources side by side(only one channel/source has sound).
