Lately i've been wondering whether or not I'm just '' whining'' when I ask if games have only turned into a 3D demonstration designed to only satisfy the gamer with the most money.... and tonight I've made up my mind. It sure has.

I remember a time when I was younger, when games where all about throwing out completely different ideas in the form of RPG's, FPS's or RTS games. A time where the gaming industry seemed like they were all thinking ''Well hey! We can't change how much the graphics of today sucks but since it's 3D let's just concentrate on the gameplay!''. If you ask me those were the greatest of times. Games had gotten 3D and that was all we needed. No fancy ''Anti-Aliasing'' or special effects were needed to spice up these games since they all had unique stories and gameplay elements... I can remember games like Half-Life, Blood II and Quake III that really got me excited with pc gaming. Never before had the games come alive in such a fashion that i could turn in any direction and walk it... Years passed and just like so many others i got more and more amazed with how the graphics in games were progressing, and how new lighting effects really helped the games come better to life... and yet I didn't take 3D for granted when I tried games like Baldur's Gate, a game that introduced me to role playing for the first time. I was simply shocked how all these games without drawing me in them physically like new games do, still managed to reach me in a much more personal manner. I could go on an on about the many games i tried back then (Many of them using the Quake III engine too), but that would only ruin the blog, and it probably is bad enough already...

Games have taken us to other worlds with and without simple 3D, and a question i dare ask everyone is: Do you believe that these new games will ever satisfy you in the same way the old games did? Has the gaming industry turned from gameplay to graphics or am I missing something? I know some of you might say '' take it easy just wait and get a new pc!'' but it's always easy for them to say that when they're not watching their pc slowly turn into a heap of junk thinking '' why didn't I wait and buy a better pc?''....

Anyway I know this blog post is probably not completely thought through but i hope that's not really the point....

And by the way plz post your comments on this because I really would like to hear how people feel about this and whether or not this blog post was any good.

Good point...I grew up in what I like to call the glory days of gameing. It was when I played games because they were fun...not because they where pretty. Don't get me wrong I love the way the graphics of the new consoles and new PCs look but for me gameing is more about what they do with all those pretty new graphics. You can take the best game engine and create all these real looking people and real world phycics but if it is not fun then the graphics quickly become unimportant. To me graphics are like sports cars. They look cool on the outside but its really about whats under the hood. If the inside of the car is crap then how will I drive it. What would be the fun of a great looking car that breaks down all the time and leaves me beside the road. Same with games. It does seems like a lot of people these days get caught up in how good a game looks on the outside . Most time thats the frist thing that alot of gamers talk or ask about.

Still...These days its hard to say I don't care about graphics its all about the gameplay because realistc enviroments and people have become so attractive that is hard not to be impressed. I feel like there are still game developers out there that use the good graphics and inovative game play together to create a new experaince. When a game is just plain fun to play people will buy no matter how it looks. I mean they are still makeing 2D mario games that sell like crazy!

In the end i feel like realistc games will come to a point where they just don't evolve. one day you may not be able to tell the differance in a game chratcter and a real person. So what then? Its all about gameplay. I feel like the future in games is more with player involvement rather than realistc looks...the cool graphics will just be a plus.
