Transformers was before my time. It was an '80's cartoon and I was born in 1992. However, my cousin owned some of the videos. I watched them religously. I mean, seriously. Transformers is my all-time favourite cartoon. The adventures of Optimus Prime, Ironhide, Omega Supreme, Wheeljack and all the other Autobots against Megatron and his motley crew were defining moments of my childhood.

In short, I loved Transformers. A lot. I liked the toys as well.

So just last week I was dragged to the cinema. I hate most films that are released these days, and the oonly film that was showing that remotely interested me was Transformers 2.

Baaaaaaad decision on my part. I should have seen Year One.

I hadn't seen Michael Bay's first attempt at modernising Transformers, so I had no idea what to expect.

I should have lowered my expectations.

I could ramble on and on and on about what was wrong with the film, but I'm going to keep it to one major flaw with the film

The Transformers do not take those disguises.

Seriously.

Optimus Prime should look like this:

Not like this:

Optimus wasn't too bad, he was probably the most accurate. But the others...ohohohoho, they were really unfaithful to the originals.

Ironhide should look like this, and transform into a red camper van.

Michael Bay had him as:

Perhaps the biggest offender was Soundwave. He should look like:

Michael Bay's Soundwave:

But you never see him like that, because he leeches onto sattelites.

Other offenders included Bumblebee, the twin Autobots, Starscream, Megatron...I could go on.

This film was so unfaithful to the original it isn't funny. Michael Bay's sold out a part of my childhood to GMC.

There were other quibbles I have with the film, such as Michael Bay's fixation with Linkin Park, transformers should be vehicles. Not humans and that Decepticons should mostly be aircraft, not cars.

Argh, Michael Bay has annoyed me greatly.

Anyone else feel betrayed by him?

I never saw the cartoon, so the first I saw of transformers was the first film, and I was not very impressed anyway, so I won't be seeing this one

I'm just not a fan of transformers in general I'm afraid (although admittedly I didn't watch the cartoons). I liked everything else from ninja-turtles to he-man but never transformers. I think it was probably because I was never interested in cars (despite having a toy-box full of them lol) until recently when I got my own...

You are absolutely right Denny !!!
My react to Michael Bay's Soundwave: WTF is this ?
Oh, and one more thing: die, Autobots !

@ -Absinthe- : I have the first one on DVD, but it's still shrink wrapped. And it'll never be opened after this travesty.

@ Dinkyfish : I also have Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and He-Man on video As well as Thundercats, Defenders of the Earth and Mr. T (?) '80's cartoons are the best.

@ HipHop_KingKong : Thanks for sharing my anger. Soundwave really annoyed me in that film. He shouldn't be living on a sattelite WTF?

I haven't even bothered with the second movie. We are going to have another one of these movies that destroys childhood coming up too... seen the preview of G.I. Joe? WTF!

I'm really not that big on modern films at all and i've tried to avoid remakes since Godzilla.

@ Raahsnavj : I'm thinking the same. I got into GI Joe a little later in my childhood, but I still feel the movie will kill it for me. Hasbro seem to not care anymore.

@ Zaku_Abumi118 : I know this. I thought you didn't bother with any film post-1959

@ peno360 : I'm afraid I don't know you...are we GS friends? Have you tracked me? I still think that Year One would have been better. Really, any other film. Even Jonas Brothers 3D

@ munchlax99 : I'm glad you enjoyed them, but I really didn't. I'm certain Michael Bay is targeting Amerian boys between the ages of 12-16. Explosions, Robots and Megan Fox...what more does an American teen boy want?

I don't at all...I love the Transformers movies

the movie was good but it had too many sexuel things in it that were totally unnecessary
Posted Jul 15, 2009 7:54 pm PT
@Darth-Caedus : Traitor

@Ziki88 : Strange, I thought that was included to directly target your age group. But it was unecessary. Totally. And of all the girls he could have included, why Megan Fox?

yah seeing it with my dad and the opening scenes with the two dogs was pretty akward. it had no purpose. this movie isnt a comedy, its an action movie. also i dont know why he included megan fox. shes like the slutty characters you see in horror films, not some kind of hero in an action movie.

I love the transformers movies. My only regret is that there is no Grimlock.
It could have been much worse man, Hollywood has obliterated so many good things but this tme, the transition to more conventional and modernized transformers was pretty good. They stuck to the roots alot better than most remakes and game to movies do.
IMO, great movies, super epic battles, a good addition to transformers. It doesnt ruin your faith in the universe like the RE movies or anything by Uwe Boll.
Ill agree that the human decepticon was pretty uncreative and the linkin park and green day affixiation was lame. Megan fox is still rediculously hot, Id like a cut of her jib
Even Optimus's death was pretty spot on with the old cartoon movie, he laid waste to like 15 decepticons before getting killed in both.
