So, I just grabbed the C&C3 demo for the PC. While there
are definitely some improvements I would like (ability to move HUD
elements, infinite queue's a la Supreme Commander), the game is really
impressive. The real problem now is that I need to decide which version
of the game to buy: 360 or PC.
Normally, I would just default to the 360 version since my home is no
longer game-worthy, I have no desire to build a new rig, and the 360
version should have the graphics at their highest fidelity. But with
C&C3 there are a few cons to just getting the console game:
1) The game is coming out 2 months later. At this point we really need
a simultaneous release, especially for competitive players.
2) Controls, while good, are not up to the PC standard. I am basing
this assumption off of my experience with BFME2 for PC/360. The 360
controls were surprisingly good, but still not nearly up to the PC
counterpart. I really wish we could just get support for USB
mouse/keyboard on the 360 game. Who's blocking this, Microsoft or EA?
Not everyone has a gaming computer, why not allow them to use their
console as one?
3) Lack of post-release support. BFME2 for 360 did not receive any of
the later patches that the PC version had, and did not receive the expansion pack. This may have been because
of low sales, but it's totally unacceptable to patch one and not the
other, especially with competitive online play.
4) Inability to play with coworkers at lunch, and a much smaller
community on console. Online multiplayer is a huge part of the RTS
experience, so differences here are somewhat important. I wish that the
whole Live Anywhere deal was already setup. It would be great to be
able to play cross-platform matches (assuming USB mouse/keyboard
support of course).
So, what should I do? Buy PC and not play at home, buy the 360 version
and deal with the 4 issues above, bite the bullet and pick up both, or
just refuse to buy either one? I would really like to see these issues
brought up with the C&C3 team by GameSpot or another site. Nobody
seems to ask/press the hard questions, the ones that matter to actual
game consumers.

My choice is on PC because RTS games on consoles suck.

thats what I would have done. I have a good PC @ home so there is no reason to waste money on the 360.
