Texting while driving, More hazardous than DUI?

I was driving on the freeway minding my own business when the sea of cars before me started to turn red. I slowed and was at that point where you have to decide are they really stopping or just slowing. When BAM a truck slams into my truck causing my truck to literally jump forward, at which point I felt perilously close to the vehicle in front of me and placed both feet on the brake and pushed, HARD. Well, that worked. Only a two car collision.

Pulled off the road and Voila there is the reason everyone was slowing, an old beat up van with a blown out tire and what to my eyes appeared to be several immigrant workers trying to get the jack to work. (the id's the patrol officer walked past with later did not look like my id that is for sure)

I called 911, of course I knew what freeway I was on but not the nearest cross street. But the officer made it there in record time anyway.

While waiting for the patrol officer the young man driving the truck behind me, Really young man, 17. Pulled in front of me between the tire changing van and myself. He opened my passenger door and helped wrestle my sons car seat out of the way so I could get out. While we were talking I noticed his arm was bruised up. He said he struck it on the steering wheel. Well his forearn was injured exactly where it should be IF a person was TEXTING WHILE DRIVING. I did not mention this to the patrolman or the young man but I have my suspicions.

So now I know what whiplash is. When a vehicle hits you going about 65 when you are going closer to 35-40, your head hits the headrest very hard, bounces off and falls nearly to your chest then back again into the headrest all in about 1 second. I hurt now, but tomorrow, I don't even want to think about it. So I will probably not post much for a couple days unless I really luck out and my neck is tougher than I think it is.
