So...I've been at GiantBomb a lot lately. It's pretty awesome. I mean, GameSpot is awesome and stuff too. But, well, all of the dudes there are former GS people anyway (Jeff, Ryan, Brad, and Vinny). And it kind of reminds me of the good ol' days of GS. You know, before Gerstmanngate and the mass exodus of all the old timers.

Wait, this isn't funny.

For me GB isn't a GS "replacement" per say. It's a different kind of website: users drive most of the content via wiki-editing of everything on the site. The four dudes mentioned previously are the only reviewers, and there are only so many games they can play and review. So I think GS will still keep it's current position as the place for reviews, media content, and demos. But GB offers a lot of new stuff, and it's pretty cool so far. So..check it out. If you wanna. No biggie.

My girlfriend has recently been working a lot in a lab studying the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster, and the stupid little twerps have been catching a ride home with her. So now I have to deal with tiny flies buzzing around my face and food all the time, which of course is no fun. They really like my monitor at night when there are no other lights on, like say, right now. I've killed 5 in the time it took me to write the last few sentences.

I wonder how many of these I've eaten on accident...

Now don't get me wrong, I like insects. But in moderation. I need some "me" time away from them once in awhile. Maybe I should get one of those lizards that snatches insects out of the air for food...

I've discovered a fairly consistent pattern in my study habits as of late: whenever I have a big test to study for I go out and buy something to distract me from studying. Take my latest example of this behavior: I have my first biochemistry test this wednesday covering a total of ~4 chapters of protein flavored fun, and I went out and bought the Alf season 1 dvds. Growing up I was a huge Alf fan, so it seemed to be an obvious buy. So I get home and of course pop in a dvd of cat-yearning hilarity, totally forgetting about my big test. Bad news!

What hilarities do you have in store for me this time, Alf?

Another example? How about the Star Wars trilogy dvd set coming out tomorrow? I preordered it online, so I probably won't get it until friday ish (well after my biochem test). And yet there's another conflict: I have two tests next week, for cell physiology and microbial genetics. These are not easy classes! And yet I'm drawn to watch Alf and I'm anticipating watching the SW trilogy this weekend.

Not exactily Full House, but still about family issues.

The more I reflect on the current situation, the more I realize it's not a unique occurance. I think back to my purchase of Knights of the Old Republic, coinciding with my second organic chemistry test. Or my purchase of a gamecube at the same time as a big lab research presentation was approaching (had to get the Metroid Prime bonus back, I just had to!).

Ultimately I'm going to have to either: a) stop buying good stuff at bad times, b) get a little bit of self control over myself, or c) pay my girlfriend to hide the fun stuff I buy until I can use it.
