The Dark Knight. Those three words have come together to become a household name along with other names like Heath Ledger, Christian Bale, and Christopher Nolan. As of 12:10 AM on August 9th, 2008, you'd have to be living in a cave somewhere, (pardon the pun) to not have heard something about this film. With a revolutionary viral marketing campaign, the Dark Knight became one of, if not THE most anticipated movie of 2008. And for good reason.
The Dark Knight is not only the perfect Batman movie, (After a $400 million intake, it's safe to say that this is the perfect Comic Book Super Hero movie as well) but it stands out as not just a movie about superheroes. It is an extremely intelligent crime drama, with a rich plot, amazing talent, and dynamic action scenes.
People have said that there are subtle little real life topics touched upon in the film, which I suppose is true and only adds to the amazing material. People have also said that the role as the Joker is "what killed Heath Ledger." Maybe it's because I'm a Batman freak but I think thats crap. In fact, according to every main player of the cast said that he was completely normal through filming(If you ask me, someone should be talking to mary kate olsen right now.Am I the only one who thinks her demand of immunity was waaaaay too suspicious?) He was a brilliant actor who didn't get the attention he deserved until after his unfortunate passing.
Oh and all the buzz about his role in the movie, is necessarry by the way.
The Joker MADE that movie. After seeing Heath on screen as The Joker, it goes from "Batman is awesome" to "Batman, who?" The Joker is an amazing character that was done PERFECTLY. Saying Heath Ledger was perfect is an understatement. Back in 2007 when Ledger was first announced, people were skeptical, but it has become extremely clear that Ledger, without a doubt IS the Joker.
If you have not seen this yet, then I suggest you seek mental help. This is an epic Masterpiece, worthy of all the publicity it's getting. I've been writing this review for 20 minutes (pathetic) and there still aren't enough words to describe how perfect this film is. There have been many many reviews of this movie already, the majority of them, Very good. If you haven't seen it: go see it. That's honestly all I can say. You'd be doing yourself a favor.
They say that the cinema has been declining (with people waiting for dvds and worse, downloads online). This is the movie that is putting the cinema back in talks again.
It is a masterpiece. It's Gold. It's as close to perfect as anything I've seen this year, and for a long while.
