Pretty interesting couple of weeks in the gaming world for me. Just played through Stranglehold and it wasn't bad. Glitchy and a little rough but it's heart is in the right place. It's a total shooter-fest! A perfect rental game. I also caught a ton of E3 coverage, particularly the Big Three news conferences. At the risk of being called a 360 fanboy (which I am) I give the win to Microsoft. They definitely had the bigger annoucements even though much of it had been leaked earlier. I'm not a big fan of the avatars but I'll reserve judgement until the Fall update. I like the Netflix move too. I don't see myself using it much but I like seeing Microsoft continue to press thier advantage in the online arena. Of course, Gears 2 looks great as you would expect.

Sony was just Meh... I have been very close to taking my Government Stimulus money to Best Buy and grabbing a PS3 but I still need to see more games before dropping $400 and getting the evil eye from the wife. MGS4 is huge, Uncharted looks real good, and there is talk of Bioshock having extra PS3 exclusive content. Still, Sony featured mostly Resistance 2 which does nothing for me. The 360 has plenty of shooters I can play so I don't need to get a whole new console for that. If the God Of War 3 trailer had any substance whatsoever that might have clinched it. Sadly, all I got was Kratos angry on top of a mountain. Sorry boys, I think I'll keep my money in my pocket a little longer.

Nintendo didn't even bother to try. They rule the gaming world. You know it and they know it. So why waste time touting anything, soccer moms everywhere will buy whatever they release anyway. I have never had the slightest interest in the Wii and I couldn't be further from caring about it now. Like the rest of the world though, I'll be buying my kids many DS games this year so it looks like Nintendo got me anyway!

A lot of very nice games got shown off. Fallout 3, Left For Dead, Dead Space, and Mirror's Edge blew my mind! These are instant day 1 buys for me. Throw Fable 2 in there as well. When you add in Gears 2 and the GTA 4 DLC I will have to quit my job to get all this gaming done!

One game that I won't be buying is Too Human. Played the demo and was very disappointed. Repetitive gamplay and game environments. How many of the same creatures in the same dark hall can one guy kill? I really wanted to like this one. The developer, Dennis Dyack, struck me as a sincere guy who had a great idea and really believed in his game. I like how he has taken his critics head-on but in the end Too Human looks like just a simple weekend rental. Nothing more.

I'm not sure I entirely agree with you about the Too Human demo, but that might simply be me clinging to a last little bit of hope that the game will be good. I guess I see what Dyack is going for in the game, and I can see his vision there, even if you have to brush past some of the muck on the game.

To me it feels like it still needs a little bit more polish. The menu system is slow, there are some "invisible walls" that are too far away. I just hope that the gameplay doesn't get in the way of the story that they are going to tell.

Fair enough. I like the premise of the game and how he merges sci-fi into norse mythos. But the demo just didn't show me nearly enough. Assuming that there is actually more to see. Maybe the story is way more engaging on the disk than it is in the demo to compensate for the monotonous gameplay. I will very likely rent it and if I'm wrong I'll gladly buy it.

I have to agree with you about Too Human, this is a game I've been watching for some time, and then the demo was... bland. May be I set my expectations too high.

I'll be honest, the Sony console doesnt have much by way of games, but look at it like this.Foremost, you've got a top-notch blu-ray player.Secondly, you've got a second computer of sorts, because of the PS3's ability to browse the Internet.Third, and I'm not kidding when I say this,MGS4 and Drakes Fortune are worth the price of admission even without what I've previously just mentioned.Fourth,in the very, very near future, you will be able to get an 80 GB PS3 like I did,but for less cash.Yours will be a whopping $100.00 cheaper !! Oh,and fifth,I could use another friend like you on my PS3 list.

It's a matter of time Darren before I get one. As much as I hate to admit it the PS3 is the superior machine as far as hardware goes. I just need a few more games and a bit more refinement of thier online experience before we start shooting at each other on PSN.

Yeah, the PS3 is a "sometime-in-the-future" purchase for me. My Stimulus money went into a HDTV so it will be awhile before I have the $ to make another major purchase, though I am a big MGS fan. Very true about Stranglehold. Pretty much non-stop action though definitely on the short side. Too Human demo was interesting, though I will definitely wait and see what the reactions are to the game itself after release before I get my hopes up too high.

I played the Too Human demo and was disappointed, mostly with the controls plus I was expecting much more from it. When a demo for a game comes out 9 times out of 10 the game is booty. In fact, Bioshock was the only demo I've played so far that made me want the game, excluding arcade titles. As far as a PS3 purchase, I waited long enough for mine and I enjoy the heck out of it. UT3 is 3 times as good on the PS3 than it is on the 360, Uncharted is totally sick especially on an hdtv, MGS4 no brainer there and Resistance Fall Of Man is frickin sweet, Warhawk is sweet too. Theres more to come as far as exclusive stuff that is irresistible for the PS3, for me Killzone2 is going to be huge! online for the PS3 will never be like XBL, it's just different and always will be, the PS3 is more like a PC when it comes to online gaming, the difference is a free service vs. a paid for service and to be honest Micro$oft is making a killing off of XBL alone. I know this because there is alot of the same things available on the PSN network which is like the Marketplace on XBL but playing a game online is free, which if you have a 360 and say COD4 and you want to play online, you NEED to PAY $$$ to Micro$oft. All is fair in love and war, so if you love to game, don't worry about the war of the systems, there both great in their own ways, nuff said...
