Alright here is my list of the best network talk show hosts. Stewart and Colbert are not included, because they are not traditional late night comedians, if they were though I'd put them at the top of the list.
1. Craig Ferguson- I never got the popularity of Craig Ferguson's show for a period of time, I mean he was a juvenile comedian then I started watching the show and I became a fan. His monologue is entertaining, his interviews don't rely on cards and not to mention when he reads the email I'm always in stiches. I just wish he had better guests on his show.
2. David Letterman- David Letterman is not near the prime he was maybe 10 to 15 years ago when his Late Show was in it's peak, I mean seriously watch clips on youtube of his old show and you'd be shocked that it was the same guy. However Letterman's show is just got an aesthetic quality about it, I mean if you watch you feel proud in a weird way that you did. Some of the comedy is funny but Letterman's real skill is his interviews, whether with Obama or with Joaquin Phoenix, Letterman's sharp wit is still in tact. Plus he allows his guests to talk and make the show funnier, unlike some other comedians.
3. Jimmy Kimmel- I had a toss up between Conan and Kimmel, but I went Kimmel because his show has been pretty funny since that whole Matt Damon/Ben Affleck sketch thing. He's not afraid to get away with the censors and his show is always funny because it uses a "Soup like format" to analyze clips, his interviews and charisma are a bit low but the show is still enjoyable especially with characters like Guillermo and Uncle Frank. Definitely enjoyable.
4. Conan O'Brien- The Prince of Late Night, well I guess it's now Mr. Ferguson's territory. Conan has been helming the Tonight Show for quite sometime and though his show is not as good as it used to be, you can't deny that he still has the awkward humor still in high gear. His interview skills aren't nearly that strong and his monologue can be painful, but Conan is still one of the most energetic and college humor based talk show hosts out there. Lacking his edge.
5. Jay Leno- Leno is a pretty good comedian, despite his painful Leno Show. Though let's face it, he lost all of his edge that he had in the 80's and in stand up. Since joining the Tonight Show, Leno has been the middle man for humor catering to the lowest demographic to make jokes. Sometimes cheesy jokes. He's like the family primetime comedian, afraid to take any major risks. Though you can't deny he does have some funny aspects (not talking about the chin)
5. Jimmy Fallon- I feel bad picking on the new guy but Fallon's show is so hokey and cheesy during this current moment, granted some jokes are good but how he manages to have good guests kind of baffles me. I'm sure he'll get better, like he can get worse then the next person down on the list.
6. Carson Daly- Why on earth does Carson Daly have a show? He's not a comedian. Not to mention his show isn't that entertaining, he was good on TRL but come on.
Alright it's been some time since NBC started the Leno experiment, and it has been producing the results they didn't expect, nothing. Now whose idea was it to put a late night show in primetime 5 days of the week against a string of other network hits. Not the most bright move. Supposedly NBC was afraid of Conan O'Brien leaving his Late Night show a few years back (when it was at it's peak) that they gave him the Tonight Show, but realizing they couldn't lose Leno, he got his own primetime show. Now here's the problem I have with the Leno experiment, almost everything. The monologue is there as the last show but at 10 PM it's almost if I have no interest in tuning in, If it were an hour and a half later during his Tonight Show time, you'd probably really be interested in listening to what he has to say but it doesn't work quite as well during the 10 PM time zone. The show segments seem to drag on as well, and not to mention the interviews seem like a rip off of something on PBS, you don't get the same kind of talk you would get on the Leno show behind a desk. Overall the effort has been a snooze fest, and not helped out NBC's ace in the hole Conan O'Brien. My question simply put, is Why NBC? Couldn't you leave things be? I'm sure that Letterman and Ferguson are laughing at this. As NBC struggles again.
NOTE: Fire the president of NBC (The Network is horribly mismanaged)
Hello everybody. I've come to advertise two new shows that I like this season. One of them is doing pretty well the other is kind of looking for more viewership. One of them of couse is the new ABC series Modern Family from the first scene, I was immediately drawn to this show.
The show focuses on three families, one with the patriarch married to a hot attractive woman and her wiser then his age young son, then there is the Patriarch's daughter who has a clueless husband and 2 kids. Finally there the Patriarch's son who is gay and with his boyfriend adopt a Vietnamese child.
Yep. That's the show in a nutshell.
The star of this show is Ty Burrell as the clueless but nice guy dad Phil. Without him or perhaps Cameron (one of the gay characters) the show wouldn't run as smoothly as it has been. What I love about the show is that they don't go toward stereotypes for the most part, for example the character of Cameron could easily be a stereotypical gay person but instead he's a football loving gay dude. That's so awesome and funny.
The show doesn't mean to offend anybody, hetrosexual or homosexual but to give a picture of a family unit and it's really well done. Definitely a must see.
Then there is Community the NBC hit about a group of likeable odd-balls in a Community College. I thought the first episode was good, then a few other episodes were alright but after the Halloween episode I honestly believe this show is back onto par. All the characters are entertaining and the jokes are witty not to mention what a talented cast. Chevy Chase, Joel McHale, John Oliver and Ken Jeung from the Hangover, are you kidding me? Watch this one.
