So I've played about 1-2 hours today of GTA, and I have mixed feelings. I think it may just be the hype still playing tricks in my head, telling me this is the best game in the world, but other then that, it's been a bit of a let down. Here are the positives and negatives so far;

Pos.

Stunning views, especially of the sky-scrapers, in both day and night. The graphics are not amazing, but from afar, the city looks superb.

A real feeling of huge islands containing life. You won't often recognise seeing the same character model more then once, and with the AI getting on with different activities around the city, makes it rather a realistic gaming world.

Combat is great, whether it be a punch up, or a gun fight, both systems of destruction work very well, and adds a lot more strategy to what used to be a linear combat system in the older GTA games.

Neg.

Driving is a bit of a nightmare, maybe I've just been unlucky on the cars I've drove, but turning corners is very frustrating, though saying this, it's probably something that's easy to learn, but hard to master.

The camera is rather dodgy. As well as it being very hard to adjust on the spot, it also has a hard time following you.

I've found it hard to go out and explore. The cars are hard to steer, you either have to slowly walk everywhere or constantly hold down a button to jog, and every 5 minutes you get a call from Roman or other characters, asking for your assistance. You just don't get the feeling that you can just wonder whereever you like without a disturbance.

.....

You could argue that my positives easily outweigh my negatives, but with game reviews handing out 10/10's willy nilly to GTA 4, I need to be critical, and so far it hasn't lived up to a 10. I cannot comment on the story, as like I said, only around 2 hours in, but it's still long enough to judge the gameplay structure.
