After my older sister gifted my a prebuilt PC for starting college last year, I was exstatic! (I have the nicest sister ever ^_^ )
When I saw the specs on it, it wasn't half bad. A bit overpriced, but I was happy with anything since we had to share a laptop for so long, lol. The only downside I found in it was the processor was a little weak for a triple-core and the lack of a graphics card ![]()
Having used it mostly as a college homework HTPC, with the occasional PC game (most old games obviously) since it only had an integrated nVidia GeForce 6150SE chip.
A little over a year now and I have finally decided to buy a graphics card for my HTPC to allow me to play some newer games and make things prettier (as how my girlfriend says).
So I had my mind on a Sapphire HD 4670 512MB until I laid my eyes on an HIS HD 4670 IceQ 512MB card. Granted, I have a 300W PSU, I read both cards would run fine. So after deciding to buy it off newegg, it was deactivated the day after
and they don't seem to be coming back...
I was bummed until I found TigerDirect still had some in stock but they charged tax for my state and shipping was $8, which made the total cost to about $94!
I had given up on the idea of buying a card that would be capable of running with my stock 300W PSU and I actually went back to thinking about getting the Sapphire one. But after reading so many good things on the HIS one, I was really bummed.
That was until I looked at CompUSA and luckily they had it in stock! I gladly paid the $87 for it (eh, it was better than $94 from TigerDirect) So now I just have to wait the 3-7 business days for UPS to get here ![]()
So if anyone is interested at my crappy HTPC specs:
- AsusM2N68-LA Motherboard
- AMD Phenom 8400 Triple-Core @ 2.1 GHz (quiet you!)
- HIS HD 4670 512MB IceQ Turbo
- 3GB DDR2 RAM (2GB Samsung brand 2x512MB Hynix brand)
- Western Digital 640GB with Vista Home Premium 32-bit
- Seagate 40GB with Ubuntu Linux 9.04
- 19" HP Monitor - 1440x900 16:10
*EDIT: Just checked the shipping times for CompUSA. I should be getting it tomorrow since the warehouse is closer to my state than I expected ![]()
*FINAL EDIT: It arrived in less than a day (8/13) and installed easily! I tested this baby out on Battlefield 2, ET: Quake Wars, Call of Duty 4 and a few older games at max settings and looks beautiful! Also tested it out with Crysis SP demo and the most it can let me play is around medium settings. Still not bad looking since I'm so used to my onboard graphics ![]()
I love my new graphics card ^_^
