Hello and welcome all to the first edition of the Control Freak Journal. Brought to you by the Unions I love and the games we adore. Thanks to GameSpot for such inspiring coverage on games and also thanks to the Union leaders that continue to allow me to post my articles on their homepages. And, of course, thanks to the readers for without them, my writing would be pointless.

Now, this will be a weekly issue in which I write about what's going on in the world of gaming, what people want to know, and all the big stuff that clutters up the forums. Dn't worry guys, finally your speculation on the ON or your favorite original list of fighters you want in the next Super Smash will be posted here sooner or later.

So, what's the topics for today? Well, we might as well discuss the ON and get that out of the way. Also, because I am a proud supporter of the SSB and Zelda Unions (along with others, I didn't forget you guys) I will be having special sections dedicated to Zelda and Super Smash (namely right now Twilight Princess and Smash Revolution).

--The Revolution Begins--

E3 2005 ended up a big mixture between saying hooray for Sony's awesome piece of media overload and Microsoft's rapping on the 360 and saying 'what the hell?' as far as Nintendo's secret revolutionary console goes. We all know Nintendo... we all love Nintendo... but we know Nintendo can have the craziest and pothead-ish ideas this side of Mars. I mean, come on, Raccoon suit makes Mario fly? WTF? But at Nintendo's turn at the press conference at E3 earlier this year, everyone knew something was going to happen. Everyone knew the REV was going to be shown. Everyone didn't know that they would be dissappointed with the results. Most people were intriguiged by it all at first. I have to admit, I was pretty excited even after hearing all of the coverage... but rumors started to float around and things became less great. Metroid Prime 3 footage only on GC hardware? NOOOOOOO!!

No controller, no tech demos, no nothing. Just a black box. Now, those of you readng are probably thinking that I am merely trying to deminish the upcoming REV. Not at all. I am merely speaking the word of the people. But, in my opinion, Nintendo could have done much better. Of course, it was excellent news to know that the REV would be supporting online out of the box, have WiFi, wireless controllers, nextgen Zelda, Metroid, Mario Super Smash and play every first-party (and some second) games for the NES, SNES and N64 downloadable for FREE (suppossedly). Also, you can play all of your GameCube games and use any of your GC attachments or such like the bongo controller. That does sound great. But what does this little box do? It plays games... and you can buy an attachment that lets it play DVDs.... and thats' about all we know.

Now, this is where the ON comes in. What is the ON you might ask? Well, if you have been living in a hole the last four months, then maybe I have an excuse to tell you. The ON is the feature part of a video that was strewn throught cyberspace claiming to be the next-gen of Nintendo. Now, most people claim it to be fake, but there are some aspects about it all that seem very odd. There is a wonderful article written by MrPolitics that gives a detailed look at how the ON could actually be real. You can view this article here: http://forums.gamespot.com/gamespot/show_messages.php?board=909104101&topic=22537092. It really is worth a look. As for the actual ON video, you can watch it here: http://www.nintendoon.com/ (just the video) or you can read another article by 1UP and watch other videos made by the claimed ON video maker here: http://www.1up.com/do/feature?pager.offset=2&cId=3141783.

I hope this brings new light to those of you who have only seen darkness in those holes you have been living in for four months.

--Into the Twilight--

The upcoming Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess has been o the number one spot for GameCube games for a while. Obviously being the next Zelda game gives it that spot, but also being a continuation in the storyline of Ocarina of Time, one of the best games ever, and having realistic graphics that everyone missed ion Wind Waker. So, what is Twilight Princess? It is the last GameCube Zelda (looks like) and the game everyone has wanted ever since OoT.

You are cast into the role as Link some years after OoT and find yourself living in a quaint little town where you do things such as rescue little kitties and use your deadly falcon to do so. Deadly falcon? Yes, falcon. It appears this Zelda will focus heavily on interaction with animals. One day, something happens, something else happens and for some reason Link has to go rescure something or another to bring peace back to where ever the hell he feels like. Now, all this may sound too familiar, but throw in an alternate dimension, Link transforming into a werewolf, a freaky midget riding Link's wolfish back and Zelda holding a sword and you have something we all want to play... RIGHT NOW.

There is not much known about Twilight Princess as far as story goes, but there are some new neat aspects to the game that can be found here. Sword fighting on horseback is a new and welcome addition and elemental upgrades for weapons. A Gale Boomerang was shown at the E3 this year and showed off Link's stuff with a gaggle of monkeys (please, no perverted jokes about the last sentence...). It seems as though this Zelda may live up to OoT and maybe surpass it (doubtful, OoT was a masterpice to me).

Now, time for me to dig into the information we have and let me find some bad. I'm sorry guys, but I have to. It's my job to bring both the good and evil to the world's knowledge. Anyway... when you really think about it, what in this new game have we not seen before? Every other Zelda was so inspiring because it brough something new and differnt. But what do we find here? Transformations, alternate realms... we've seen it all before. Link to the Past gacve us the alternate world and Majora's Mask gace us transformations. Every other Zelda has given us something new (WW- sailing, Four Swords- multiple Links) so why can't this one. Then again, the whole interctions with animals is a new approach to Zelda and we don't know what Zelda's doing wth that sword... plus the transformation before at least were similar to Link.. but a werewolf.. that's like turning into your horse except you may want to eat your horse (never thought of that, did ya?).

So, let's all wait and see how TP turns out. My guess is that it will be a great istallment in the Zelda franchise. But I honestly doubt it will top OoT (nothing beats it!).

--Smash This, Smash That--

OK... I'm getting a little tired of typing now, so to be the lazy guy I am, I am merely going to post my rant on Super Smash Bros Revolution here instead of an actual article. I posted this rant yesterday on the Super Smash Bros Union and Nintendo Characters Union and I will make a few alterations to it, but it will still have the same point to it all. Enjoy!

*My Rant On SSBR

Okay everyone, I have never actually done a rant before, so try not to be overy frustrated with me. It is just I am so fed up with all of these ignorant (in my opinion) ideas for characters in Super Smash Bros. Revolution.

For one thing, I belive Toad is a weird idea for a fighter seeing as he hardly has any arms or legs. Granted, neither do Jigglypuff or Kirby, but those are fine because they are rubbery and can stretch, sort of. Plus, Toad is already apart of Peach's 'B' attack.

Also (a lot of people will hate me for this), I think Wolf from Star Fox would not be a good choice for a fighter. He would only end up being yet another clone and I would hate for the only Star Fox characters all be the exact same except different levels of speed and different looks. I think Krystal would be a much better selection for a character seeing as she could have her staff and have completely different attacks than Fox/Falco.

Waluigi would be a stupid choice without Wario. Wario has to be in this game. He is the antihero of Nintendo and would have different attacks than Mario. I belive he would NOT be a Mario clone. He has had his own series of games and could use attacks from there. As for Waluigi, he is too tall and would look a little awkward, but who knows. All I'm saying is it would be stupid to have Waluigi without Wario. Plus there are way too many Mario fighters as it is.

I also hate it when people blow me off when I say that Paper Mario would be a good fighter. I honestly think he would, but no, people have said things like 'he's not 3D' or 'he'd be a Mario clone!' or 'there are enough Mario characters!' Well, first off Mr Game and Watch is also 2D. Also, he would NOT be a clone, he does have a hammer and star powers afterall. And if there weren't so many people screaming 'TOAD' or 'WALUIGI' every time someone asks who you want as a fighter then maybe there would be a little room for an extra Mario.

I also think that Ridley would be an awkward fighter. He could fly and I don't know... this is the one thing I'm not really sure about. On one hand I could see him as a fighter while on the other hand it seems a little pointless. But at least he wouldn't just be another clone.

So many people are screaming names of all these Pokemon that should be in SSBR. What I think: If no one knows who they are, they shouldn't be in the game. No one knows who Medacham or Tyranitar is! Wel... I know, but most people don't. Pikachu is well-known because he's Pikachu! Jigglypuff is known because.. well, I'm not sure why. Pichu is known because he is the little Pika and Mewtwo is know because he looks freakin awesome. Some Pokemon that are actually known to most people would be: Bulbasaur, Squitle, Charmander, Mew, Scyther (he also looks cool and he was hard as hell to get on film in Pokemon Snap), and some others. Now, the only two out of those I would see as a fighter would be Charmander or Scyther, but Charmander seems too small so maybe his evolved form Charmeleon would be good, but I don't know. My point is stop saying names of Pokemon that no one knows of. Trust me, I'd love for Zangoose to be in SSBR, but no one knows him.

STOP SAYING SONIC AND SHADOW. They aren't going to be there, they never will, and even if they were I would still like Link more.

Speaking of Link, we need no more Link clones. Some people are saying 'they should put in Wind Waker Link!' Well.... no... if anything they should put in Zora Link cause he kicked ass. Besides more Links, I think Majora would be cool because he could use all sorts of spells and what-not.

Now, to close off my rant, I will post here a list of the characters I think would be most reasonable to be in SSBR. You don't have to agree with me, you just have to tell me what you think. Once again, please don't be too frustrated with me.

List:

1. Wario (Mario series, WarioWare series, Wario Land series)

2. Krystal (Star Fox Adventures and Star Fox Assault)

3. Diddy Kong (Donkey Kong Country series, various Mario sports titles)

4. Captain Olimar (Pikmin series)

5. Paper Mario (Paper Mario series)

6. Meta Knight (Kirby series)

Now here is an additional list of characters I would like to be in SSBR (the list above is who I actually think will be in the game)

-Scyther (Pokemon)

-King Dedede (Kirby)

-Majora (Majora's Mask)

-Zora Link (Majora's Mask)

That's a crazy long journal entry.. worthy of the title "Volume 1". It's very well done indeed.
