Okay, well I haven't written one of these...well, ever. Not since 2004, I think. But I have a dilemma of sorts, so I figured, why not ask here, see if anyone responds?

Okay, well I've been nominated to attend this 10-day youth conference over the summer. It's called the National Youth Leadership Forum of Medicine. A research company received my PSAT scores, which sent that information to the NYLF, and voila! I was invited.

The NYLF is a 10-day conference, which is held in nine cities across the US. During these 10 days, we hear doctors talk about their experiences, tour major medical facilities, universities, etc. You get to see a cadaver (which is an incredibly fun experience, oddly) and at the very end I hear you learn how to suture on a banana

I can pick one: Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston, Philadelphia, Atlatna, Houston/Galveston, Washington D.C., Chicago, or Phoenix. The problem for me is which city to choose.

I've narrowed it down to 3  cities: Boston, Washington D.C., and Chicago.

Chicago-

  • My cousin lives there, so I can visit him, and there's family in case of emergency.
  • ER is shot there (sometimes). Doubt they'll be filming there when I'm there, but it might be cool to ride the El.

Washington D.C.-

  • Johns Hopkins University is there. I have a slim slim slim slim chance of getting in there (my school isn't the best platform) but I'd like to see it.
  • Nation's capital, so maybe during down time I'll get to see some of the sights!
  • My friend went there last year, and enjoyed it.

Boston-

  • Brown University is there, which Princeton Review rates as one of my "Reach" schools. (You can just make the cut, and figure "Why Not?", according to princetonreview.com)
  • Boston University is there, which Princeton Review rates as one of my "Good Match" schools.
  • Harvard is there, another one of my "Reach" schools (Reaching really hard, that is)
  • And of course, sights and such

So can anyone help? I commend you for getting through this boring blog in the first place, but I'll supercommend you if you leave your vote!

At first look, Boston has the most "pros." But I'm still highly torn. After writing this blog, I'm actually more torn than before (I was leaning slightly towards D.C.)

I need help. Stat!

Wow! First of all, congrats Justin! Woo-hoo! You little smarty-pants.

Personally, I would pick Boston. Only because I've been to D.C. many times, but haven't spent as much time in Boston. I was only there once for a couple of days and would love to see more of Boston!

I know that doesn't really help you at all, but there are my 2 cents. Wherever you end up, you will have a fabulous time! Let us know what you choose.

Hooray for Justin's first bog! Wow! Good for you! I can only imagine how excited you are...well, I really have no idea! Hmm...I suppose I would go with Boston, just from what you said up there about Boston...although, any of the three sound great to me! Hope that helped, and keep us updated.

I guess I would pick Boston, too. My sister, the doctor, went to Boston College, and she loved not just the school but the town, too. There are many schools you could check out (but isn't Brown in Providence, RI, which I guess is not that far from Boston) so you could get visits to lots of places under your belt all in one trip. I like D.C,. too, cuz I'm a big history buff. Can I vote twice? .

Thanks, Rochelle, Taylor, and Raven! I was leaning towards D.C., but then after writing the blog I was leaning towards Boston.

Raven- Yes, Brown is in RI. When I said "there" I meant it was listed as one of the participating institutions for Boston. My bad!

Thanks guys. My pen is slowly reaching the "Boston" box. But I'll still think about it for a few days.

Congrats Justin. That's really good news. I can't help you much. I'd love to go to any of the three.

Well I'm French so I guess I'm no big help, but I have been as a tourist in all three cities (from your list the one I knew best was Phoenix because I have gone there on business trips over 20 times! Damn hot but a great city IMHO). As a visitor, I liked Chicago best, but then I was 2 whole weeks there whereas I had only spent 2 days in the two other cities... D.C. wasn't really my cup of tea. And Boston... well Boston was really nice too... I remember looking at the buildings and houses and thinking I could really live there. And they do have great universities

I´m not from the US either, and I´ve never been to any of those cities, but if I were you, I´d probabl choose Boston, because of the Universities

Thanks, everyone. It seems like Boston is the overwhelming opinion. My mind switches every so often from "Yes! Boston it is!" to "But Washington D.C. is also cool..." But I think I'm going to Boston. I'm waiting until Wednesday before turning in the application, just in case my mind changes!
