Chapter 7, Part 1: The Envious Understudy

Chapter 7:
The Machine
and
The Joker
"Fools are quick to rush into battle.
The wise know this and prepare."

"For too long I've stood in your shadow, Antauri. For too long I've been looked on as the dumb one. That Sprx dies tonight, as I reveal you for what you truly are. A fake... You can't beat me, Antauri. You're too full of self righteous nonsense, you're weak."
Antauri listened patiently and replied in a calm tone reflecting his truest nature.
"Sprx, the Skeleton King has corrupted you. If you continue through with this fight, you may as well give in. I am not weak, and neither are you. There is not one on this team who believes you to be weak, you are a puppet of Skeleton King. We can help you, but you have to let us. You are stepping down a path you don't want to enter, look deep inside yourself and tell me that you want this path."
Sprx sneered and lunged for Antauri.
"Don't try to trick me with thoughts such as that. Those feeling were what made me weak in the first place. I am stronger now, and nothing you say can change that."
Antauri deftly side-stepped Sprx's attack and drove a kick for his knees, sending him sprawling.
"I do not wish to hurt you Sprx, but your actions are forcing me to act in self defense. Please, consider your choices, the real Sprx is still in there."
Sprx snarled and pivoted on his hands, then rushed for Antauri again, his magnets glowing.
"ARGH! Shut up! For once in your life, speak normally. You think you're so high and mighty, I'm gonna cut you down to size!"
Antauri brought up his fists, ready to block.
"Listen to yourself! This is not you, are you truly so blind that you cannot see this? I never once believed I was high and mighty, my manners of speaking are simply to convey a calming nature!"
Sprx jumped above Antauri and brought his weapons down, clubbing him in the back of the head. He fell to the ground with a soft groan.
He turned back and laughed.
"Where's your calming nature now? That's the difference between you and me, Antauri. I'm not afraid to kill. I'm not afraid to finish what I start. Even now, you lie on the ground, powerless to stop me. All because your goody goody ideals will not allow you." As Antauri tried to stand, he put a foot on Antauri's head and pushed down. "I didn't say you could get up."
Antauri groaned slightly, then phased through the floor.
"Ha! Running away little a scared rat? What kind of example are you setting for the team?" He looked around for where Antauri could be hiding. "Well? Come out already! I'll even offer you a truce!" He laughed mockingly, then suddenly was thrown to the back wall.
"I realize this is not the real Sprx, but your actions were greatly unjustified. There was no reason for this fight, the only cause is your inability to listen to simple reason."
Sprx winced, then pulled himself from the small pile of rubble he lay in.
"Do you ever shut up?" A red glow emitted from his magnets and converged into a beam. "Magna-Tingler Blast..." The beam shot out and slammed into Antauri, knocking him into the wall with a resounding crash.
"Do you see now? You barely hurt me, but you are almost unable to stand. Do you see now what the power of the dark side holds for those who follow it? The pain can stop. All you must do, is renounce your place on this team, and pledge your allegiance to Skeleton King."
Antauri screeched at this comment.
"How can you even say such a thing?! You may have Sprx's body, but there is no way you are truly Sprx-77."
He casually stepped over to Antauri, then kneeled next to him in a degrading manner.
"You simply fear the truth. I am Sprx-77, and no longer am I another of those mindless drones Chiro calls Monkey Team."
Antauri looked away, and thought about what Sprx had just said. He was severely corrupted, and Antauri was not sure if they could bring him back at this point. It frightened him, for so long, he had feared losing a member of the team to Skeleton King, but he never had any true reason to worry until now. Sprx was leaning on the edge, and he was beginning to fall over.Try as he might, he could not bar this thought from his mind, and even now, as he stared into Sprx's soulless eyes, he feared the worst. Could he have finally been beaten by Skeleton King. His eyes grew wide. He could not think like this, for this was how Skeleton King gained his followers, through fear.
"No matter what you may do to me, I will not follow. I will fight you with every inch of my being, and I will get Sprx-77 back. The real Sprx." He groaned and got to his feet, using the wall behind him for support. "You may look like him, and you may talk like him, but you are not Sprx. You are not the true Sprx, not the one I call friend."
Again, he laughed harshly.
"You say that as if it should affect me. As if I cared at all what you thought. I don't, Antauri, and I never have."
Apparently, Antauri had tired of trying to get through to Sprx. His claws now glowed with a luminescent light.
"This ends now, Sprx. I only regret that I could not get through to you sooner." With these words, he rushed at full speed toward Sprx.
