I finished up Mario vs DK 2 last night, and I'm really pretty pleased about it. It was a great little game, but it just felt like it ended a little too quickly, and in only a few select instances was I ever legitimately stumped by any of the maze-like levels. Fortunately it's got a great level editor feature, and I'm going to spend a few weeks tinkering with that before I shelve it for good.

On the whole, the game makes good use of the stylus controls, and has a surprisingly vast repertoire of commands for your little Minis with just a few swipes and taps. However, because it's a stylus, it can lead to some frustrating situations.

For example, in MvDK2 you get a healthy score bonus if you refrain from stopping any of your Mini's once they have been started (you start and stop with a single tap). And if you want to achieve the maximum scores on any of the levels and unlock all the goodies, each level must be completed in this manner, with no stops whatsoever. It is extremely frustrating to spend half an hour playing and replaying a level to perfection, only to have your attempt dashed to pieces because the DS incorrectly interprets your swipe as a tap, and stops one of your little guys. It happened a number of times to me, and I'd call it a glitch, but it's not really. Rather, it's just one of those fundamental nuances of a control system like a stylus (or a motion-sensing remote, for that matter), in that there will always be a degree of intepretation to your input that simply doesn't exist when you're just pushing a button. It's a minor gripe, though.

All in all, it's a fun little game and perfect for lunch breaks.

Completeing this frees up my DS for a little while until I find a new game. I have Advance Wars, but I don't want to get into another turn-based strategy game just yet. I'm thinking either Starfox, or one of the Kirby games. Any suggestions?

Have you tried Metroid Prime Hunters? I didn't like it but a lot of people I know do.

No, now that you mention it, I never did get around to trying that one. I'll see if I can find a copy to borrow from someone first.

I liked March of the Minis enough, but it couldn't top MvsDK for the GBA (which is actually my favorite GBA game). You're right about the nuances of the stylus control. I've had many a level ruined by an incorrect tap. Unlike you, I actually felt the game was a tad difficult. It's much more frenetic than the first game and sometimes I had trouble multitasking across the screen. That's a personal issue, however.

I highly recommend Kirby's Canvas Curse. It's a good time killer and a solid game through and through. Not the best ever, but I'm sure you could get a good deal on it used. I also see that you don't have Meteos and that's practically criminal. Both that and Mario Kart DS are must-haves for the handheld.
