Hey everyone, what's up?

So I'm looking through my stack of games to play and I had been meaning to get back to MGS3. I beat it over a year ago and I liked it but had such a short stint with it because in my anticipation to play MGS4, which had been out for a month or 2 at that time.

So I see it there and finally decide to pop it back in for a second go.
Originally, I thought it was a fantastic game, through and through. That said, I thought it was the most frustrating MGS game.
The enemies are WAY smarter, the alert system goes by way slower, there was no proper radar, alerts are started very quick, and the CQC controls were different. All this added up to a fun, but frustrating experience most of the time. (Still gave it a 9.5)

I was just so used to MGS2, which is more user friendly, that adjusting was hard.

Seeing as I started again, I was way better at it which means I could dive into the deeper stealth in this game.

Once I hit my groove, I fell WAY in love with game again, arguably more than MGS2 and I LOVED MGS2.

The jungle (with some urban territories) is an excellent setting for a game and the atmosphere is fittingly great. What I really like about this game is you have to rely on your eyes to be good. The enemies do a great job of blending in, as do you. Using your thermals is a must and watching your surroundings is necessary too. It's really horrible when you have a guy in a choke hold and didn't notice the poisonous spider at your feet that just bit you (causing you drop him and cause an alert).

The Bosses (2 or 3 classics here) are awesome, the story is fantastic (not as complex as MGS2 but still really great), the characters are unmatched (with the best animation and the most realistic eyes ever), graphics are the best on the PS2, and gameplay (once you get used to it) is really satisfying.

I actually played through it again right after I beat it with no alerts or kills and got the invisibility camo. Needless to say, I'm proud.

Everyone needs to experience the Metal Gear games and 3 is a great highlight of the series (although 4 is the best).

Thoughts on MGS3?

PS: Snake Eater is the most epic game song ever.

I've only played MGS4 outof the series. I gave it 8.5. I honestly think its way overrated and cannot understand how it got 10. If that gets 10/10 then so does Bioshock and Dead Space imo.

man I have not played snake eater I played subsistence instead, of course they are all the same thing, and all that camo stuff is what makes this a very good tactical espionage game

I haven't played a single MGS game to this day

@M0wen10: It's your opinion and I'm ok with that.
My opinion is that MGS4 is the greatest game ever created. It is perfect in every single way and so beautiful.
Dead Space is great too. Just got all my trophies except the "Beating it on the hardest difficulty" trophy.

@Zantozzzz: I also played Subsistence. It's better than Snake Eater for all the extras and the camera. I think I would have hated the game if it had the old camera.

@McMJ3: Why not? Is your PS3 backwards compatible? I TOTALLY recommend the MGS Essentials pack which includes MGS1, 2, & 3.

Unfortunately not, although I am borrowing my cousins phat PS2, so I guess I could buy them, I just don't really want them though

I'm sorry to sound so critical, I didn't mean it to come out rude, just my opnion
Good luck with that trophy by the way

@McMJ3: Oh... I understand.
If you ever wanted to try a unique gaming experience, pick them, I FULLY recommend them.

@M0wen10: It didn't come off as rude at all. I was just curious since I think MGS4 is beyond great and I want to know what people don't like about it.
Thanks for the good luck, but I won't get the plat for a while.
I want to space out my plays of Dead Space. I don't want to grow tired of it.
Eventually one day, I'll say "Hey! I still have that last trophy to get in DS! I'll do that now!" I'm sort of doing the same thing with Resident Evil 5. I just need to beat it on Professional and upgrade everything which should come at the same time.

Thats what I like to do, space out my playthroughs of games. Sometimes I go about 10 months, but its worth it. As I forget things in that time. Dead Space I won't play for probably about another few months as I played through it 3 times in a row for the platinum.

I still have yet to touch MGS since I beat MGS2 last summer. I still remember myself saying that I was gonna beat MGS3 before the end of the summer!

Wow, where has the time gone!? Anyway, I've still got a lot of games to play, so I'm gonna continue to put of MGS3 until I feel like going back to MGS again.

@abdelmessih101: Sometimes it is a *bit* hard to pick up an MGS because they are so addicting, I can easily lose track of time. They usually require a commitment and that's hard sometimes if you only have an hour or 2.

MGS3 is so amazing though, you NEED to play it. YOU STILL HAVEN'T PLAYED MGS4, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?!?!?

To me, MGS3 had the best story. MGS2 gets a bonus since that is what got me into the series. MGS4 seemed more prone to explaining the past games rather than focusing more on the characters and story of the actual game. But they're not HUGE cutscenes for nothing though. They did a decent job on advancing MGS4's story, however, I am no fan of the B&B corp. Compared to MGS2 and 3, the four women had VERY little to do with the actual story. And only Laughing Octopus had a minor role with Vamp...The other three beauties just sort of appeared. And let's not bring up the fact that MGS4 wasn't allowed to use the Main Main theme of the series...

@Symphonycometh: MGS3's story was the most self contained. MGS4 and 2 (especially 4) referenced the other titles a lot whereas MGS3 felt like a singular game. All stories are the best in games though.

The women weren't as story related but in my opinion, were the best from a gameplay perspective, meaning they were the funnest boss fights. Laughing Octopus is one my favorites bosses of all time.
It's hard to say negative things about MGS because it may be "weak" compared to the other games in the series, but compared to everything else, it is a million times better.

Oh yeah, MGS3 rules.

I'm not a huge Metal Gear fan but MGS3: Subsistence is my favorite out of the series. I'm kind of like M0wen10... I thought MGS4 was kinda overrated. And yes, Snake Eater is a really awesome song.

Well, MGS3S is my favourite MGS to-date; to me MGS4 just felt.. I don't really know how to put it, it just seemed a little off to me. It was a great game, no doubt; there was just something about that didn't seem right to me about it.

That said, when it comes to MG as a whole, I've yet to finish either of the AC!D games even though I have both of them already, so I can't fairly call MGS3S my favourite Metal Gear game yet, especially when MGA2 is supposed to be a cel-shaded SRPG card-battlan' Metal Gear extravaganza.
